Patent number: 4907814Abstract: A self-adjusting bearing comprises an elongate body portion of compressible, resilient material of truncated conical shape with a central cylindrical bore formed therethrough. A plurality of independent segments of wear-resistant material are secured to the inner surface of the body portion to form a liner adapted to make bearing contact with a component received within the bore. The segments are each of arcuate transverse section, the side edges of adjacent segments being spaced from one another and the arrangement being such that, on location of the bearing in an associated, correspondingly-tapered bore whereby the body portion is radially compressed, the radial forces established within the body portion urge the segments of the liner into bearing contact with the component within the bore of the body portion.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1989Date of Patent: March 13, 1990Assignee: George Blair Public Limited CompanyInventor: Peter M. Patent number: 4875784Abstract: The invention relates to a slide bearing with two bearing shell halves which are held together during the installation by springy clamps. The clamps are formed from a band-shaped material piece having two bow-shaped legs bent over toward a side which are supported in inwardly inclined end areas at edges of the bearing shell halves. The seating of the clamp is thereby wobble-free, and more particularly both when the clamp is inserted with only one end into a mounting as also when both bearing shell halves are assembled which then are held together without play. The secure seating of the clamps is attained by multiple linearly- and areally-like supports of the clamps and by springy abutment at the inwardly bent end areas of the legs of the clamp, whereby axially acting forces result.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1989Date of Patent: October 24, 1989Assignee: MTU Motoren- und Turbinen-Union Friedrichshafen GmbHInventor: Karl Just

Patent number: 4775249Abstract: Plain bearings, particularly thin-walled plain bearing liners, are provided with radial projections for fixing and as an aid to assembly, e.g. with lugs, on the outer side of the outer part of the bearing, without using the whole thickness of the outer part of the bearing, so that the inner surface of the outer part of the bearing, which carries the functional layer, remains along its whole length cylindrically curved and smooth. Such outer projections may be formed on a part of the thickness of the outer part of the bearing by radial shaping of the material. This may be made on the joint face of bearing liners or one one or the other of the axial end faces of bearing liners or bushes or also on any desired place of the outer peripheral surface of the outer part of the bearing.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1983Date of Patent: October 4, 1988Assignee: Glyco-Metall Werke, Daelen & Loos GmbHInventors: Erich Roemer, Mathaus Kuhne, Leonhard Maurer

Patent number: 4741631Abstract: A split bearing support receives a crankshaft bearing. When joined, the two bearing support parts form a hub with a frustoconical outer surface. The hub has a plurality of spaced-apart bolt holes extending axially therein. The bearing support is received by a housing which has a central opening surrounded by a frustoconical inner surface which mates with the outer surface of the bearing support hub. The bearing support and the housing are held together by a plurality of bracket segments which are attached to the side of the bearing support by bolts received in the bolt holes.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1987Date of Patent: May 3, 1988Assignee: Deere & Company (John Deere Technologies, Inc.)Inventor: Branko A. Patent number: 4576032Abstract: Crimping press comprises an anvil and a die which is movable towards and away from the anvil. The anvil is moved by a rotating shaft having a crank-type coupling to the die. The shaft is capable of limited movement in the direction of movement of the die towards the anvil. The shaft is supported against such movement by a yieldable shaft support that is calibrated to resiliently yield upon development of a predetermined reaction force in the die during the final stages of crimping. When a terminal is crimped onto a relatively small diameter wire, the shaft will not be moved at all or will be moved by only a slight amount if the predetermined force is reached. When a terminal is crimped onto a larger diameter wire, the predetermined reaction force will be developed before the die reaches the limit of its travel towards the anvil and the shaft will move away from the anvil to accommodate the remaining movement of the crank pin.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1984Date of Patent: March 18, 1986Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: Werner Maack, Georg Kampfmann, Peter Foerster

Patent number: 4557664Abstract: An overhung steam turbine is described which features a seal assembly and a bearing assembly to minimize axial shaft movement. The seal assembly forms a pressure barrier between a relatively low vacuum exhaust region and an exhaust cavity disposed at one end of the rotor shaft to minimize the pressure differential across the ends of the shaft and the resultant thrust force of the rotor shaft against the turbine casing. A bearing assembly is provided which includes a pair of journal bearings and a pair of oppositely disposed thrust bearings. In one embodiment one thrust bearing is connected by an adapter ring which is mounted to a horizontally split bearing casing. In another embodiment, the thrust bearing is carried by one of the journal bearings. The journal bearings are preferrably connected by horizontally split ring bearings to facilitate insertion and removal of the bearings without removing the overhung shaft.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1983Date of Patent: December 10, 1985Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventors: Alan H. Patent number: 4540294Abstract: A bearing shell insertable between two relatively movable members, such as a housing and a shaft, is split into two semi-cylindrical halves with transverse end faces adjoining each other along an axial parting plane. At least one link extending across that parting plane positively engages the two half-shells for holding them inseparably together but with enough relative play to facilitate their self-centering insertion between the two members. The link may be a headless bolt, threaded into one end face and received with clearance in a recess of the other end face in which it is loosely retained by a cross-pin, or else it may be a flat, generally C-shaped or X-shaped clip with one or two pairs of heads loosely fitted into shallow depressions on the outer surfaces of the half-shells closely spaced from their end faces.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1983Date of Patent: September 10, 1985Assignee: Glyco Maschinenbau-GmbHInventors: Heinrich Lamperski, Paul Gerling
