  • Patent number: 10883591
Abstract: The wave generator of a strain wave gearing is provided with an ellipsoidally contoured wave generator plug and a wave generator bearing. The wave generator bearing is provided with an annular body fitted between inner and outer races in a sliding contact state. The annular body is composed of an endless coil spring and has a rigidity that is able to maintain a constant gap between the inner and outer races. The annular body also has a specified overall flexibility in the radial direction so that the annular body can be flexed into an ellipsoidal shape by the wave generator plug. Since sliding occurs between the annular body and the inner race when the wave generator plug rotates, it is possible to generate a wave motion in an externally toothed gear with a small rotational torque.

A rocker bearing with such an outer race and a method for its production is also provided, in which a sliding layer and a support layer of synthetic resin impregnated fibers are wound in succession onto a winding mandrel, and outer races are formed after setting on the winding body thus produced. The sliding layer and the support layer are wound onto a cylindrical winding mandrel, and the outer race is provided with exactly one parting line opening it, and sliding layer material on its inside is removed to such an extent that a partially spherical contour is obtained for receiving a complementary inner race.

Abstract: A bearing material composition that lines a support includes a combination of a thermoplastic conforming material and abrasive particles which provide a combined effect for remedying the effects due to edge loading that may be caused by misalignment between the bearing and a shaft to which a portion is rotatably mounted. The conforming material may be PTFE such that it does not have a memory and is subject to cold flow and creep. As a result, misalignment problems and edge loading are remedied by the combination of abrasive removal of metal material from the drive shaft at the location of edge loading and creep of the conforming material at the location of edge loading which may provide an overall greater bearing interface surface.
