  • Patent number: 11338737
Abstract: A movable link arrangement for an active exterior component on a vehicle. The movable link arrangement has several links that are connected together and rotate about a composite bushing. The composite bushing has a body with an aperture formed there through. The body is formed of a continuous fiber and resin material that circumscribes an inner layer of friction reducing material that forms a bore through the body of the composite bushing. A rotatable pin is positioned through that aperture of the body and extends through the bore so that the rotatable pin is in contact with the inner layer. The composite bushing with the friction reducing material provides reduced noise and eliminates unwanted corrosion that occurs when other bushing materials are used.

  • Patent number: 9261140
Abstract: A method involves the coating of a metallic substrate with a blasting medium through sandblasting or equivalent techniques. The blasting medium is preferably a powder made of silicon nitride (or other ceramic or engineering materials). The sandblasting process allows the silicon nitride powder to form a loosely packed layer on the substrate. With additional treatment via rolling and/or sliding action against a secondary body in the presence of a liquid lubricant, the loosely packed particle layer turns into a flattened surface matrix consisting of particle clusters and irregular cavities. The silicon nitride particles are spontaneously attached to the substrate surface without the use of an adhesive agent which subsequently leads to the formation of a surface matrix exhibiting a chaotic hybrid topography with zero tensile stress when subjected to rolling/sliding contact pressure. This cluster-cavity matrix can evolve continuously (thus dynamic) and is immune to debris indentation from dirty lubricants.

  • Patent number: 6663289
Abstract: A bearing with one or more layers of lubricated spacers for dynamically brace-supporting first and second slide surfaces independently movable relative to each other. The spacers are positioned between the first and second slide surfaces, and each spacer has a pair of opposing spacer slide surfaces which are adapted to slide in surface-to-surface contact relative to an adjacent slide surface. Lubricants are used to facilitate low friction relative sliding motion between the slide surfaces, which can be either bonded to the spacers, or separately deposited between the slide surfaces.

  • Publication number: 20030039420
Abstract: A bearing assembly is disclosed having a pair of bearing members movable relative to one another. A space is defined between the bearing members, and a relatively thin coating of a greaseless, self-lubricating material is applied to the surface of at least one of the bearing members. A grease lubricant is disposed in the space defined between the bearing members such that both the grease lubricant and the greaseless material act to substantially lower the friction-generated heat that is encountered during operation.

  • Patent number: 6478468
Abstract: A plain bearing comprises a metal backing, a layer of a porous matrix of sintered metal on the backing and a filled PTFE infiltrated into the interstices of the sintered layer and standing proud of the sintered layer, wherein the PTFE is filled with 1-20% by volume fibrillated aramid fibres and 10-30% by volume glass. The glass is preferably E-glass present as milled filaments of length 0.05-0.30 mm and diameter 0.010-0.020 mm and coated with a silene sizing agent. The fibrillated aramid fibres provide reinforcement and improved load bearing capacity and the glass provides an abrasive filler which abrades asperities on a body and creates a smooth polished surface against which to bear, thereby improving its life. The PTFE preferably also includes ferric oxide and carbon black to about 1.5% and 1.2% by volume respectively which both pigment the polymer and act as fine abrasive and lubricant respectively. The carbon black content may be increased to about 10% to provide electrical conductivity.

  • Patent number: 6390682
Abstract: A plain bearing comprises a metallic backing, a sintered porous metal layer bonded to the backing and a lining layer infiltrated into the pores of the porous metal layer and overlying the sintered metal layer, said lining layer comprising PTFE containing 10-30% by vol. of particulate wear-resistant filler, 2-10% by vol. fibrillated aramid fibers and 2-10% by vol. of a melt processable fluoropolymer. The melt processable fluoropolymer is a copolymer of the group tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene, tetrafluoroethylene-perfluoroalkylvinylether and monofluoroalkoxy. Such a bearing exhibits superior cavitation erosion resistance and may, by increasing the temperature and/or duration of the sintering operation that is normally performed after the mixture of ingredients has been applied to a backing material, be made to exhibit significantly improved fatigue strength.
