  • Patent number: 6305847
Abstract: In a sliding bearing in which a bearing metal layer is covered with a coating layer, the coating layer comprises a thermosetting resin as a base resin and soft metal particles dispersed in the base resin in an amount of 0.1 to 10% by volume based on the volume of the coating layer. The soft metal is harder than the base resin and has a higher thermal conductivity than the base resin, so that the wear resistance and anti-seizure property of the sliding bearing are improved. In particular, when the soft metal particles are of copper, silver, tin, zinc or the like, the soft metal particles react with the sulfur contained in a lubricating oil to form a thin metal sulfide film excellent in lubricity on the surface of the particles, whereby the coefficient of friction is made smaller.

  • Patent number: 5458460
Abstract: Disclosed is a bearing unit which can be used in a drainage pump operated without supply of clean water or a hydraulic pump, which exhibits excellent wear resistance against water containing earth and sand and satisfactory assembling facility, and a method of manufacturing the bearing unit. The contact surface of a bearing made of stainless steel and/or that of a sleeve is applied with a sprayed coating, the main component of which is WC, and which contains one or more elements selected from a group consisting of nickel, chromium and cobalt as a binder material thereof, or a sprayed coating, the main component of which is Cr.sub.3 C.sub.2, and which contains NiCr as a binder material, after the sprayed coating has been formed, heating at from 300.degree. C. to 550.degree. C. is performed for one hour or longer so that hardness and wear resistance equivalent to those of a WC-12% sintered article is attained.

  • Patent number: 5407508
Abstract: A method of producing a replaceable one piece annular outer race having an axial bore, an uninterrupted inner annular concave raceway facing into the bore and an outer surface. The method comprises the steps of applying an overlayment of filaments onto a cylindrical axially split mold assembly to form a one piece outer race substrate. The mold assembly includes first and second separable semi-cylindrical mold halves each having a semi-cylindrical convex outer mold surface, a mounting bore extending axially through the mold assembly, a removal axis normal to the mounting bore axis and a support removably mounted in the mold assembly mounting bore. A coat of hardenable liquid resin is applied to penetrate the filament overlayment substrate, after which the coated substrate is cured to form a hardened one piece outer race on the mold assembly. The cylindrical mold halves are removed from the hardened outer race to yield a single piece annular outer race.

  • Patent number: 5319851
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a bearing for a wiper arm structure includes the steps of: a) forming the bearing by sintering so that the outer peripheral surface of the bearing includes rough sintered surfaces of protruding ridges and recessed portion; b) sizing only the sintered surfaces of the protruding ridges without processing the recessing portions to smooth only outer peripheral surfaces of the protruding ridges so that the outer peripheral surfaces define a circular cross-section for the bearing, the sintered surfaces of the recessed portions remaining in a rough sintered condition relative to the outer peripheral surfaces of the protruding ridges which are sizing-processed; and c) forming a resin material on the outer peripheral surface of the bearing by insert molding.

  • Patent number: 5252780
Abstract: A durable polymeric bearing is provided for a rotatable support insulator. The bearing is of sufficient conductivity to permit the flow of leakage current and capacitive charging current through the bearing. Thus, tracking across and/or deterioration of the bearing is avoided since insufficient voltage is developed across the bearing to cause any deleterious effects.
