Abstract: A gear pump (1) comprises a pump housing (2) in which two stationary journals (12,13) are disposed. On the journals (12,13) a driving pump wheel (7) and a driven pump wheel (8) are mounted. The driving pump wheel (7) in the example is integrally joined to a shaft (16) which is constructed as hollow shaft and on which a hub (24) with a magnet (11) is disposed as part of a magnetic coupling of the gear pump (1). With this construction a wear of the journals (12,13) in their bearing region in the pump housing (2) under the action of aggressive cleaning agents such as acetic acid is prevented because the journals (12 and 13) do not rotate in their bearings.

Abstract: A method of manufacture of a dry bearing material for high speed, high load purposes is disclosed. A resin paste obtained by kneeding together a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) resin and a solid lubricant is coated on a porous metallic sintered layer formed on a steel plate such that it fills the interstices of the sintered layer and covers the surface thereof. The solid lubricant is in a thinly rolled state obtained from pulverized solid lubricant, and it is distributed a leaflike or scalelike form and in a striation consisting of multiple layers spaced apart one above another.
Abstract: Differential mounting for railroad wheels includes an axle with a wheel fitted on one end to rotate with the axle and a second wheel carried adjacent the opposite end of the axle and mounted to rotate relative to the axle. The axle has a raised wheel seat with an axial length approximately the same as the hub of the second wheel which is generally rectangular in cross-section. Fillets define the inboard and outboard ends of the raised wheel seat and a steel sleeve is fitted over the raised wheel seat and includes an annular flange portion shaped to engage the outboard axle fillet. A collar carried within the sleeve engages the inboard fillet. Pressure plates are disposed on the inboard and outboard ends of the sleeve and include opposed stainless steel thrust bearing surfaces contiguous to the annular side faces of the wheel hub which are surfaced with a TEFLON composite, bearing material bonded thereto.

Abstract: A heavy-duty caster assembly for a corrosive environment having a U-shaped metallic wheel supporting horn with a metal swivel plate rotatably mounted on the horn by a kingpin wherein both the swivel plate and the horn are coated with a permanently bonded fluorocarbon coating. The facing surfaces of the swivel plate and the horn have semi-torroidal recesses that receive a pure torroidal self-lubricating plastic bearing.
Abstract: An improved plunger assembly is provided for use in a splicing tape dispenser-applicator of the type which comprises a plunger and a guide channel in which the plunger reciprocates. The improved plunger assembly comprises a plurality of low-friction bearing devices carried by the plunger and arranged so as to slidably engage at least one member which defines the guide channel. The low-friction bearing devices reduce friction wearing of the plunger and the at least one channel-defining member.
Abstract: A wear resistant liner for use between a center plate of a body bolster and a bolster bowl of a truck bolster of a railway vehicle is provided wherein such liner comprises a polymeric laminate comprised of a first material which is adapted to reduce load concentration against a peripheral annular flange of the bolster bowl and a second material which provides an antifriction surface engaging the flange with the laminate resulting in an increased operating life for such flange.
Abstract: A cylindrical Teflon bearing insert for a rotating shaft is molded into a fuel pump end housing with a hexagonal inside diameter and outside diameter recess to provide flat bearing surfaces for a shaft and a mechanical interlock in the end housing. A longitudinal variance in diametric dimensions provides effective shaft contact.
Abstract: A low-friction, water- and steam-resistant packing suitable for both static and dynamic applications includes inorganic fiber selected from the group consisting of chemical, electrical, structural and alkali resistant glasses, ceramic, quartz, carbon and graphite materials, and dispersed and dried, but unsintered, polytetrafluoroethylene (TFE). The packing is essentially free of wetting agent and is prepared by combining the inorganic fiber with a TFE dispersion containing a wetting agent and heating the resulting combination to a temperature high enough to decompose the wetting agent but insufficiently high to sinter the particles of the dispersion.
Abstract: The spherical bearing has an outer race with a curved indented inner surface. An inner race support is provided with an annular channel having a bottom surface tapering toward the axis of the support from one side of the channel to the other side of the channel. The inner race is fitted within the channel. The inner race has an inner surface complementary with the bottom surface of the channel and an outer surface complementary with the curved indented inner surface of the outer race.
Abstract: A piano action mechanism wherein a shaft pin for rotatably supporting a rotatable member on a flange is carried in bearings formed of bushing cloth glued to the surface of bushing holes in the rotatable member. With a pin inserted through the cylinders of bushing cloth, the assembly is dipped in water, dried, dipped in a solution of resin bonded fluorocarbon solids, again dried and the pin removed, to provide a durable and stable bearing having a low coefficient of friction and which is essentially noise-free and insensitive to changes in temperature and humidity.
