  • Patent number: 10697586
Abstract: An example lubrication system for a rotating component has a primary lubrication system providing continuous lubrication during normal operation of the rotating component and secondary lubrication system with a reservoir co-rotating with the component. The reservoir is continuously replenished from the primary lubrication system during normal operation of the rotating system, with the lubricant being forced through a discharge orifice by the centrifugal force generated by the rotation toward, for example, a bearing or a gear. When the primary pressurized lubrication system fails, lubrication will continue to be provided by the lubricant in the supplemental lubricant reservoir while the rotation speed or power supplied to the shaft is controllably decreased in an emergency.

  • Patent number: 5150975
Abstract: The bearing lubricating system comprises a casing having a bore which defines a reservoir and a well sized to receive a sufficient volume of a suitable liquid lubricant. A return passage in the casing allows fluid flow from the well to the reservoir. A shaft extends through the reservoir and through the well. At least one bearing is situated in the bore between the reservoir and the well. A pumper element is mounted on the shaft for rotation therewith within the well. A pair of end seals seal off the opposite ends of the bore from the ambient.

  • Patent number: 5102240
Abstract: A rotatable member (3) has on its outside surface a contoured surface portion (15) which widens conically upwards in diameter, is contiguous with a lubricant storage chamber (14) and extends axially to near a bearing (11) by which the rotatable member (3) is rotatably mounted in a housing (4). Lubricant discharging downwardly by gravity from the bearing (11) returns upwardly along the surface part (15) and reaches a zone which is below the bearing (11) and from which the same takes up lubricant. The bearing (11) is therefore supplied with lubricant during the rotation of the rotatable member (3) so that uniform lubrication in a thin layer is ensured. The mounting is used more particularly in a cap of a cap spinning machine or cap twisting machine.

  • Patent number: 5074408
Abstract: A bearing assembly for rotatably supporting a conveyor roller tube for a belt conveyor about a fixed shaft which includes a housing to which a roller tube is attached, an end cover positioned on the fixed shaft adjacent one side of the housing, and a bearing interposed between the housing and end cover permitting rotation of the housing relative to the end cover. The end cover completely covers the end of the shaft about which it is positioned and cooperates with the housing for effectively protecting the bearing from exposure to contaminants. During conveyor operation, the end cover prevents migration of contaminants along the shaft from the end thereof and the housing centrifugally expels contaminants which may enter the space between the housing and the end cover. In addition, the housing, bearing end cover, and shaft cooperate to limit axial shifting of the assembly components relative to one another.

  • Patent number: 5051007
Abstract: Lubrication system for a centrifugal pump having a bearing mounted around a rotatable vertical shaft. The lubrication system includes a reservoir for holding a quantity of lubricant, structure for withdrawing lubricant from the reservoir, a stator, and a passageway for communicating lubricant from the reservoir to the bearing. The withdrawing structure includes a rotor connected to the vertical shaft. The stator encircles the rotor with the rotor and stator extending axially into the reservoir. The stator minimizes vortexing and churning of the lubricant in the reservoir during rotation of the rotor. Dynamic seals are not necessary with the lubrication system. Accordingly, concern of heat generation and wear associated with dynamic seals has been eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4915515
Abstract: The horizontally mounted rotational bearing arrangement for high speeds of rotation is mounted in a casing in two radial rolling bearings. Each radial rolling bearing comprises rolling members guided by an associated cage, and further comprises a groove provided at the shaft and operative as an inner race, as well as an outer race. A respective slinger ring is disposed between each radial rolling bearing and associated cover plate. An impingement surface extends around the associated slinger ring and is in alignment with an operative edge of such slinger ring. This impingement surface is effective for returning lubricant to the rolling members of the associated radial rolling bearing. The cage of each radial rolling bearing is constructed such that by virtue of its movement in operation, the lubricant is conveyed to the rolling members of the associated radial rolling bearing.

Abstract: Lubrication for a roller clutch cage of the type that is installed to a cam race that is in turn secured tightly to a mounting drum is improved by providing an internal oil passage in the cage that is open on one side. When the cam race is secured to the drum, the open passage is closed off against a face of the drum, providing a secondary closed oil path that connects to the primary oil path already formed between the cam race and the drum face. Therefore, pressurized oil can be provided all the way though the cage, directly to the bearing surface of the cage.
