  • Publication number: 20040076354
Abstract: A bearing for use in a water pump or similar apparatus and a method of assembling the bearing. The bearing has a stepped shaft and a counterbored raceway at the fan or pulley end which allows for use of a larger number of balls in the raceway at the fan or pulley end, and which allows for using larger balls at the impeller end. The method of assembly of the bearing includes assembling balls and a cage to form a ball and cage assembly, assembling ball and cage assembly into the outer race at its pulley end, then sliding the shaft, impeller end first, into the outer race through the pulley end such that the first inner raceway and the first balls align with the first outer raceway. The shaft is then displaced in a direction perpendicular to its axial centerline within the outer race. A second plurality of balls is inserted onto the shaft within the outer race at its second outer raceway end, and a second cage is inserted over the shaft and within the outer race to surround the second plurality of balls.

  • Patent number: 6698936
Abstract: A tool for pre-stressing of two races to be welded to one another includes a hub having a cylindrical lateral hub wall and a tubular chuck having a cylindrical lateral chuck wall coaxially received and movable in the lateral hub wall. One of the lateral walls has a cylindrical face of revolution for radially supporting and centering the two races. A first axial abutment is immovable with respect to the chuck and against which a first free axial face is engageable, while a second axial abutment is immovable with respect to the hub and against which a second free axial face is engageable. A coaxial mechanism for axially moving the chuck towards the hub and hence for tightening the second axial abutment axially towards the first axial abutment is provided such that the two races therebetween are tightened against one another until a pre-determined pre-stress value is obtained.

  • Patent number: 6679634
Abstract: A bearing cartridge which is constructed not to be disassembled for re-packing with grease or otherwise and which may be quickly and easily replaced in the field. For high temperature applications such as sinter or pellet car wheels, the bearing cartridge is lubricated by a high temperature solid lubricant, and the rolling elements preferably comprise cylindrical rolling elements for bearing radial loads and spherical rolling elements for bearing axial loads. For ultra high temperature applications such as furnace car wheels, the bearing cartridge is lubricated by a ultra high temperature lubricant composed of a graphite and molydenum paste. In order to economically provide small furnace car bearing cartridges, a two-piece bearing cartridge is provided with rolling elements, preferably having cylindrical central portions for bearing radial loads and conically shaped axially outer end portions for bearing axial loads, between the races, the rolling elements insertable by means of a feeder slot.
