Split Ring Patents (Class 384/570)
  • Patent number: 5462366
Abstract: A rolling bearing for mounting a crankshaft (1) in a crankcase (6) of an internal combustion engine comprising a bearing housing (4), between which housing (4) and a journal of the crankshaft (1), rolling elements (18) roll on raceways (19), the bearing housing (4) being split radially into two semi-shells (7,8) which can be connected to each other by screws (11), characterized in that a radially outer rolling element raceway (19) is formed directly on the semi-shells (7,8) and an outer peripheral surface of the semi-shells (7,8) comprises at least one fitting surface (9) extending parallel to a longitudinal central plane of the screws (11), by which fitting surface (9) the semi-shells (7,8) are guided in a preferably fork-shaped seat (5) formed in the crankcase (6), the semi-shells (7,8) being jointly held on the crankcase (6) by screws (11).

  • Patent number: 5287623
Abstract: A bearing split outer ring for mounting in a bearing housing, the split outer ring having a first portion subtending somewhat more than 185 degrees of arc and a second portion subtending somewhat less than 185 degrees of arc. The first and second portions of the split outer ring being sized with respect the bearing housing to provide an interference fit therein. In another aspect of the present invention, this is accomplished by providing a method of assembly of a housed bearing. The assembly steps comprise providing a split outer ring with two unequal portions, retaining the split outer ring over an inner raceway with rolling elements therebetween to form a subassembly, positioning the subassembly in a housing base such that the ends of the outer ring are all contained within the housing base, and thereafter, mounting a housing cover over the subassembly.

  • Patent number: 4820062
Abstract: A bearing for the steering wheel shaft of a vehicle comprises a number of needle-like rollers, a retainer retaining the needle-like rollers, a cylindrical race member circumscribing the needle-like rollers, and an elastic cylindrical member fitted over said cylindrical race member. The cylindrical race member has a generally S-shaped split formed over the full axial length thereof and extending more or less obliquely with respect to the axis of the race.Unlike the prior art cylindrical race member having an obliquely extending straight slit, the cylindrical members, even if in a great number, are stored in a single container, they do not catch one another through the slits just like a puzzle ring.

  • Patent number: 4708498
Abstract: A roller bearing assembly having an outer case (1) which contains an elastically yieldable sleeve 2 in which is enclosed a thin elastically yieldable ring 3 whose inner surface acts as a raceway for rollers or needles (6) carried by the cage (7). The elastic ring has a plurality of angularly spaced apart regions discontinuities (4a, 4b) defining pre-stressed regions adapted to ensure, by a radial deformation, a localized gripping of the rollers or needles under the action of the sleeve when the roller bearing assembly is mounted on a shaft (8). The outer case (1), the sleeve (2), the roller bearing ring (3) and the cage (7) have an openable structure which permit their spreading being apart to an open for ensuring the mounting of the roller bearing assembly by a lateral engagement of its component parts on the shaft without ends of insertion thereon from either each of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4671682
Abstract: A divided type antifriction bearing assembly with a seal having two semicircular divided inner annular members each having a track on the outer peripheral surface thereof and having at the axially outer end of the track a flange portion which is in contact with the end surface of a roller, the inner annular members each forming a cylindrical shape having a cylindrical portion axially extending continuously to the flange portion, the inner annular members being divided along the axis thereof and coupled together, an outer annular member having a track on the inner peripheral surface thereof opposed to the inner annular members, and rollers provided between the tracks of the inner and outer annular members is characterized in that the bearing assembly includes a seal member mounted radially inwardly outside the track of the outer annular member, the inner peripheral portion of the seal member is in sliding contact with a portion of the cylindrical portion of each of the inner annular members, and the inner annu

  • Patent number: 4558962
Abstract: A snap ring for axially holding an axially inserted machine element has a ring joint in the installed condition and is positioned with radial prestress in an annular groove formed in the bore of a ring, housing or the like. In order to ensure that the snap ring does not snap out of the annular groove when axial loading is exerted, the ring joint is formed by the interlocking of at least one projection formed on one end of the snap ring and a corresponding recess formed in the other end of the snap ring, each having oblique surfaces for preventing relative radial displacement between and for aligning the respective ends having the projection formed thereon and the recess formed therein.

  • Patent number: 4476614
Abstract: A rolling bearing arrangement has two axially spaced rolling bearings with their inner rings shrunk to a shaft and their outer rings interference fit in a housing. The outer ring of one bearing engages a radial abutment surface, and a spring extends between another abutment surface and the outer ring of the other bearing. Inner and outer locating rings held on the shaft and in the housing respectively abut the inner and outer rings of the second bearing. The arrangement enables the accurate axial prestressing of the bearing by selective heating of portions of the arrangement and application of weight thereto.
