  • Patent number: 5538348
Abstract: In a self-aligning roller bearing providing an outer race, an inner race, a plurality of barrel-shaped rollers, and a pair of cages, guide surfaces formed on outward flange portions of the cages for guiding the barrel-shaped rollers are caused to come closer to ends of the barrel-shaped rollers, so that the barrel-shaped rollers can be guided without fail even if an axial load is received. Therefore, the barrel-shaped rollers are prevented from being skewed, from increasing in torque required for rotating the barrel-shaped rollers, and from seizing up the barrel-shaped rollers.

  • Patent number: 5391005
Abstract: A flat strip of metal is formed to provide a depressed center relief portion between two edge portions. Depressions are formed in the two edge portions and center slots are pierced across the center relief portion such that roller receiving slots are formed with slot end depressions at both ends of the roller receiving slots. The partially formed bearing cage is then formed into a circular hoop such that the edge portions form rings at the axial ends of the circular hoop. The resulting roller bearing cage of the present invention may also be formed by other methods.

  • Patent number: 5335416
Abstract: A strip of metal is pierced intermediate the edges thereof to form slots for rollers and is bent adjacent the edges to form flanges. Each bend intersects the slots such that the slots wrap around the bends into the flanges. The strip of metal is then formed into a circular hoop such that the flanges form axially spaced end rims to retain the rollers axially. Crossbars between the slots are offset radially in a sigma configuration to retain the rollers radially. Edges of the slots may be specially formed to facilitate flow of lubricant through a roller bearing.

Abstract: A roller bearing cage is made of a bent strip of sheet metal having abutting ends that are connected to one another, the cage being comprised of two end rings and a cage frame surrounding the windows, the windows retaining and guiding the rollers. In order to permit the manufacture of rolling element bearing cages of different reference circle diameters while using only one tool for rolling elements with a specific diameter d, the center distance between adjacent the cage windows in the circumferential direction is .pi.d/2.

  • Patent number: 5052828
Abstract: A support bearing assembly for supporting a jet aircraft engine high speed rotor shaft where an operating temperature of up to 1500 degrees F. is involved and the bearing unit is exposed to such temperature condition, includes a rolling elements-inner and outer race bearing unit capable of operating at such temperature level without adverse effect and, e.g., these components being comprised of ceramic matrix composites. Since such a bearing unit will have different thermal growth than its metallic support housing, the bearing unit is supported in pairs of opposed cylindrical cages, there being an inner cage pair for holding the inner race and an outer cage pair for holding the outer race. The cages have flange means at one end and circularly, spaced support arms extending from the flanges a distance to cage opposite end locations where the support arms are formed as finger structures which interfit with the race members, the spacing between the support arms defining slots in the cage bodies.

  • Patent number: 4710039
Abstract: A roller cage for rollers with end surface depressions has holding projections preformed in the side ring sections thereof in the region of the pockets, in order to avoid a change of diameter of the holding projections and a change of the pocket shape during the shaping of the holding projections. The side ring sections are provided with recesses in the region of the edge of the depressions of the rollers so that no material stretching can occur in these parts of the side ring. The guide projections serve to axially guide the roller.

  • Patent number: 4522516
Abstract: A roller bearing comprising an annular outer track and a roller cage for itioning shoulderless, self-aligning roller bearings for high loads is disclosed. The cage is a window cage. It supports two annular rows of bearing rollers so that the inner end surfaces of the rollers are almost in engagement with each other. The cage is circular, but is elastically deformable for insertion in the bearing. The axially inner cage ring part between the two rows of rollers extends parallel to the race of the outer ring and lies practically against it. Over the entire circumference and across the entire width of the inner cage ring part, its outer surface is provided with spaced apart indentations which may include lubricant in them. The axially outer cage ring parts extend radially to the inner bearing race ring. The cage is preferably made of a hardened but elastic steel plate and is a single piece for at least one of the annular rows of rollers.
