  • Patent number: 6942394
Abstract: A race for a bearing, which is mountable to a mount, has an annular bearing surface with a center axis defining an axis of rotation for the bearing and mutually perpendicular radial and transverse directions relative thereto. The race also has a radial wall that is adapted for mounting the race to the mount in a manner such that a bearing transfer load is transferred between the mount and the race in the transverse direction and the race bearing surface maintains its substantially annular shape independently of a load applied to the mount causing distortion of the mount when the race is mounted to the mount and the mount is loaded.

  • Patent number: 6688774
Abstract: A mounting device in the form of a substantially annular washer allows a bearing having relatively movable bearing rings to be blind mounted in a bearing seat in a housing or on a shaft. The washer is fitted to one of the bearing rings and abuts a side face of the other bearing ring to transfer an axial mounting force between the two bearing rings to mount one of the bearing rings in the bearing seat. The washer is tapering and assumes a first stable position to transfer axial force sufficient to push one of the bearing rings into its seat and an unstable region encountered after the one bearing ring has reached its mounted position. Under continued axial force, the washer flexes away from the side face of the other bearing ring to an inverted tapering, second stable position, with a passage between the bearing rings being opened.

  • Patent number: 6379051
Abstract: An annular ring used as either the outer race or the bearing race in a roller includes at least one annular recess in which is disposed an annular reinforcement body. The reinforcement body subjects the region of the annular ring radially inside the reinforcement body to mechanical stresses. The side of the reinforcement body oriented toward this region is materially joined or bonded to the ring. The annular reinforcement body preferably possesses an internal radius that is smaller than the internal radius of the recess and the reinforcement body press-fitted into the recess. According to one embodiment, the reinforcement body is poured in liquid form into the recess. • Patent number: 6089758
Abstract: A molded polymeric bearing housing is formed of a moldable polymer base material in combination with a glass fiber reinforcing component. A foaming agent is added to the base material to create a fine structural foam within interior regions of the housing. A density gradient is established between regions adjacent to the surfaces of the housing and the internal regions, thereby reducing the need for reinforcing ribs particularly in a base or mounting portion of the housing. An antimicrobial agent may be added to the housing material to inhibit the growth and proliferation of fungi, molds, bacteria, and so forth. Structural features of the housing may be formed subsequent to the molding process, such as by turning operations. Metal inserts may be provided to avoid crushing of regions of the housing, such as by attachment fasteners. • Patent number: 6019518
Abstract: A cylindrical roller bearing is disclosed. Roller insertion slots are closed without forming a screw hole, but the closing of the insertion slot is firm, and the aesthetic appearance of the bearing is very perfect. Rollers 4 are inserted into operating channels 2c and 3c of inner and outer races 2 and 3 of the roller bearing 1. Insertion slots 2b and 3b are formed respectively on the collars 2a and 3a of the inner and outer races 2 and 3 to form a roller insertion hole 5 for inserting the rollers 4. The roller insertion holes 5 may be circular, rectangular, twin-arcuate or the like. After filling the rollers 4 into the operating channels 2c and 3c, a closing piece 6 is press-fitted into the insertion hole 5. The closing piece 6 may consist of two pieces 6a and 6b, and has a size larger than that of the insertion hole 5 by about 0.01 mm. Thus the closing pieces are firmly fitted into the insertion slots to such a degree that the closing pieces will never depart under any operating conditions.

A wheel hub, a pair of bearings and at least one seal are assembled with a mounting sleeve which is sized to be fitted on an axle end. The inclusion of a custom designed mounting sleeve permits the building of unitized assemblies to be used with existing axles as well as with new ones. The unitized construction allows pre-adjustment of the bearings and when two seals are employed, the bearings can also be pre-lubricated.

Abstract: A bearing assembly having concentrically supported inner and outer relatively rotatable races with a pair of endplates secured to the inner race for limiting relative lateral movement between the races. The endplates are secured to the inner race by solidified metal which is applied to the endplates and to the inner bearing race in molten form and which upon solidification secures the endplates in fixed relation to the bearing race. A method of manufacture is disclosed which involves injecting molten zinc between respective annular seating surfaces defined by the endplate and inner bearing race.

  • Patent number: 5222817
Abstract: A prestressed roller bearing and method of assembly whereby the inner race, plurality of roller elements, and outer first assembled in an unprestressed manner. Then a tapered collar is inserted into the inner race, stretching the inner race to prestress the roller elements. This final assembly can be tested in the factory. Then the bearing is shipped and installed onto a conventional supported shaft outside of the factory, in the manner of an unprestressed bearing without special installation procedures or shafts or equipment. This provides a ready-to-mount prestressed roller bearing, factory tested and standardized, without damage from press-fit assembly of the inner race into the roller elements.

  • Patent number: 5154518
Abstract: A bearing chocking assembly for mill rolls includes an inner ring engageable with the bearing structure and having on its outer face axially inclined wedge-shaped cam surfaces. These surfaces are arranged to come into contact with similar mating surfaces on the inward face on an outer ring. Both of the rings have circumferential flanges with axial holes around their entire circumference to enable the flanges to be bolted together upon being rotated to effect axial positioning of the assembly. The inner ring rests on a surface of the mill roll shaft and is secured in place by a split thrust ring disposed in the shaft groove. This assembly enables a mill roll to be removed for regrinding and replaced without separating the rings from one another and avoids the need for removing a split inner adjustment ring from the groove. Provision of flanges with holes around their entire circumferences allows for fine adjustments over a wide range of positions.

  • Patent number: 4998830
Abstract: In a device for supporting arm driving shafts, articulating portions of adjacently provided first and second arms constituting a parallel link type robot are rotatably supported, via separately provided bearings, from supporting posts projecting from the robot structure, and the first arm and second arm are also coupled through another bearing. All of these bearings are of a type in which an axial force applied to either one of inner and outer races of the bearing beforehand presses rolling members of the bearing toward the other of the races, while a pressing plate is provided for applying the axial force to one of the bearings. The application of the axial force shifts the supporting frame of the first arm relative to the driving shaft of the second arm, so that all of the bearings are prepressurized for eliminating unnecessary play.
