Race And Cage Structure Patents (Class 384/621)
  • Patent number: 5720689
Abstract: For a toroidal type continuously variable transmission, the end portion of a radial needle bearing provided for a trunnion is protruded from the inner face of the trunnion. Also, the inner face of the trunnion is made substantially flat. Therefore, the processing of the trunnion is made easy, and the holder of the thrust needle bearing can be easily positioned simultaneously. Also, the structure is arranged to enable the recess formed on the trunnion to engage with the extrusion formed on the holder, thus preventing any plane pressure from being exerted excessively on the rolling surface of the needles of the thrust needle bearing, as well as preventing the needles from falling out of the pockets of the holder.

  • Patent number: 5413418
Abstract: A retainer plate (70) limits axial displacement of two rotating rings (16,42) by providing a blocking surface contacted by the rings. An anti-friction bearing (82) includes radially directed tabs (88) that overlap the retainer plate and limit axial movement of the retainer plate and the rotating rings. The tabs of the bearing are formed integrally with a race (86) that rotatably supports roller elements (94).

  • Patent number: 5205657
Abstract: A roller circle for hoisting and excavating equipment has upper and lower spaced annular rails. A plurality of tapered rollers are disposed between the rails in rolling contact with bearing surfaces of the rails. Each of the rollers is mounted on a shaft. Inner and outer cages connect the projecting ends of the shafts and are joined together by through rods. A portion of the inner cage overlies a side face of a rail and a pad is disposed between the inner cage portion and the side of the rail. A second pad is disposed between the outer cage and the larger ends of the rollers. Thrust loads are transferred from the rollers to the outer cage and through the rods to the inner cage and then to the rail.

  • Patent number: 5110223
Abstract: The present invention comprises a spacer, especialy a spacer for use with a thrust roller bearing assembly. An internal radial lip projecting into the central aperture of the spacer provides for frictional retention on a shaft passing therethrough. Where the thrust bearing and spacer combination is to be installed in a bore, one or more external radial lips may be included to frictionally retain the spacer within the bore. The spacer element is adapted for coupling to one of the bearing elements. In one embodiment, the bearing and spacer may be bonded together. In another embodiment, the spacer and bearing are joined by mutually engageable circumferential locking surfaces. The spacer is selected from a plurality of spacers of differing axial dimension, each spacer being color coded according to its axial dimension.

  • Patent number: 5007746
Abstract: A thrust bearing is provided with resilient mounting tangs in the form of one or more axially and radially projecting leaf springs. Each leaf spring is shaped with a wedge-like camming surface which facilitates the insertion and centering of each tang within a mounting recess formed in a bearing housing. As the tang is wedged and cammed within its mounting recess, the leaf spring is resiliently deflected and compressed therein to securely anchor the bearing in place.

  • Patent number: 4981419
Abstract: A thrust bearing assembly of a wobble plate type refrigerant compressor for supporting a non-rotatable inclined wobble plate on a rotatable drive element which rotates with a drive shaft, and having a inclined drive face able to convert a rotating motion of the drive element into a wobbling motion of the wobble plate to thereby cause a reciprocation of compression pistons in cylinder bores, the thrust bearing assembly having a plurality of roller elements, an annular retainer elements holding the roller elements therein and rotating in a space between the drive face of the drive element and an inclined face of the wobble plate confronting the drive face, a pair of race elements attached to the drive and inclined faces of the drive element and the wobble plate to provide raceways for rolling of the roller elements, and a circumferentially extended guide way element supplying the annular retainer elements with a constant slide guide during the operation of the compressor irrespective of a change in the operatin

  • Patent number: 4926730
Abstract: A guide for slotting, scoring, trimming, or like heads mounted in mating relationship in a slotter for scoring a cardboard blank on the fold lines and slotting, timming or the like of the blank between the various flaps so that it may be folded into a box, carton or the like. The guide includes a plate with an arcuate bearing surface which is adapted to ride along the bottom of a peripheral groove having a bottom and sidewalls provided therefor in the heads. The plate portion of the guide is thinner than the groove is wide and has a plurality of recesses in its opposite side faces into which rollers are mounted for rotation off the side centerline thereof. the rollers exert a balanced radial thrust on the sidewalls of the groove aligning the head.

  • Patent number: 4909644
Abstract: A bearing wherein the size of the rotatable components, i.e. balls or needle rollers, can be maximized while the cage dimensions are minimized, thus aiding overall design for a mechanical device in which the bearing is located. The bearing comprises a cage constructed of flat flexible material, the cage having a generally U-shaped transverse cross-section with a number of rotatable components located between the arms of the generally U-shaped cross-section cage, each component extending partially through aligned apertures in each of said arms. When inserted between two facing helical surfaces and in engagement with both the cage automatically conforms to the pitch of the helical surfaces without the necessity of being pre-shaped to conform thereto.

  • Patent number: 4723852
Abstract: An improved load compensating roller support for a device having upper and lower frames moveable with respect to each other and having conical shaped roller bearings, each of which is rotatably mounted on a stretchable rod whereby when a load exceeding a predetermined amount is placed on one of said bearings, the rod temporarily stretches allowing the bearing to move axially along the converging inclined surfaces of the upper and lower bearing rails so as to allow the bearing to self-adjust and allow the upper and lower bearing rails to move closer together and cause the load to be distributed to adjacent bearings during relative movement of said upper and lower frames with respect to each other.
