    Abstract: A one-piece ball bearing mounting member 16 is provided for mounting a ball bearing in a housing. The mounting member includes a ring member 18. Tolerance take-up structure 22 extends from the ring member 18 in one direction and is constructed and arranged to engage at least a portion of a periphery of a ball bearing. At least a portion of the tolerance take-up structure 22 is resilient so that when inserted into the housing the resilient portion contacts a wall of the housing to take-up tolerances between the periphery of the ball bearing and the wall of the housing. A retaining structure 34 extends from the ring member 18 in a direction opposite the one direction. The retaining structure 34 is constructed and arranged 1) to permit insertion of the ball bearing mounting member into the housing in an insertion direction, and 2) to prevent movement of the ball bearing mounting member from the housing in a direction opposite the insertion direction.

    Abstract: A windshield wiper device for a vehicle, for wiping the windshield of the vehicle, comprises at least one windshield wiping unit. The windshield wiping unit comprises a pivot holder attached to the body of the vehicle and having a cylindrical bearing part, a pivot shaft extended through and supported for turning in the bearing part on the pivot holder, a wiper arm having a base end part fixed to an outer end part of the pivot shaft, and a wiper blade assembly having a wiper blade and connected to the free end of the wiper arm. The pivot shaft is restrained from axial movement into the bearing part of the pivot holder by a retaining ring put there on and seated on an outer end surface of the bearing part of the pivot holder. The retaining is fractured or deformed to permit the pivot shaft to move axially into the bearing part when an axial force exceeding a predetermined level is exerted on the pivot shaft.

A bearing arrangement produced according to the present invention includes a bearing retainer having at least one depression in which is positioned a bearing, with a portion of the bearing retainer overlapping a portion of the bearing to form an interlocking connection between the bearing retainer and the bearing in an axial direction.

A method for assembling an apparatus having a shaft comprises placing a retaining ring about the shaft in a groove.

    Abstract: An end play take up retaining ring between a support element and a retained element is constituted by a longitudinally split sleeve defining at a first end thereof a closed-biased C-shaped spring and at a second end thereof a larger open-biased C-shaped spring. The closed-biased C-shaped spring is expanded to fit the retaining ring over an external annular groove in the support element. At the same time, the open-biased C-shaped spring is squeezed to a smaller diameter. When the closed-biased C-shaped spring is released, it resiliently clamps the retaining ring in the annular groove. When the open-biased C-shaped spring is released, it resiliently expands and thrusts a beveled shoulder against the retained element. The beveled shoulder converts expansion of the open-biased C-shaped spring into relative lateral thrust which seats the first end of the retaining ring against an end wall of the annular groove and the retained element against a stop on the support element.

The possibility of galling is prevented by the use of a brass bearing between two steel members. The steel cap protects the lubricated bearing from dust and dirt. According to a first embodiment, the sleeve bearing and cap are provided at one end of the pivot shaft. With this embodiment, a closed end bushing is also provided which ensures that only the cap of the pivot shaft engages the bushing. According to a second embodiment, a first solid steel cylinder is provided with two reduced diameter portions, one at each end.

The above magnet unit reduces the axial size of the reel and achieves the recent trend of being a compact and light reel. As the magnet unit is placed in a conductive wheel receiving magnetic case, the magnetic line of force is prevented from leaking. The present invention also reduces the number of parts of a holding unit, that is used for holding both a handle shaft and a spool shaft bearing, thus reducing the cost of the reel.

The protruding tab prevents the bearing from rotating about an axis which can cause the bearing to be worn on the exterior surface by rotational contact with the thin wall. A shaft to support idler rolls or other rotating elements is inserted in an inner bore of the bearing and is rotatably supported thereby.

    Abstract: A bearing retaining device is provided to maintain a shaft bearing within a housing. In one embodiment the device has a housing with a central bore into which is received a bearing. The bearing rests upon a bearing seat and is maintained in the housing by a retainer clip. The retainer clip is generally disc shaped with a number of spring tab members extending at an angle therefrom. When the retainer clip is rotated within the housing, the spring tab members are compressed by brush holders protruding into the housing and above the retainer seat. The spring tab members spring back to position after clearing the protrusions and dimpled ears formed in the retainer clip body frictionally engage the brush holders. The trailing edge of each spring tab member grips the side of each brush holder. The bearing is thereby locked into the housing and displacement and vibration thereof are eliminated.

The retaining screws nest into the spherical slots in the retaining ring inward against an internal shoulder on an axle housing. The shoulder on the axle housing and retaining screws limit both axial and rotary movement of the retainer ring. Thus, end play, which is detrimental to oil seal life, is limited to a minimum.

    Abstract: A snap ring is provided for receipt within a circumferential groove of a bore to maintain a motor shaft and bearing assembly within a housing. The ring has an open sector to allow for flexibility. In one embodiment, a number of lobes, defined by tapered inwardly declining surfaces extend from the ring and protrude from the groove into the bore. As a bearing is urged past the groove, the lobes are urged into the groove to allow the bearing to pass. Once the bearing has cleared the groove, the spring-like nature of the ring causes the lobes to again extend into the bore such that bottom surfaces of the lobes engage a top surface of the bearing, retaining the bearing and shaft assembly within the bore. In another embodiment, the ring has a number of lobes defined by tapered outwardly declining surfaces, while a third embodiment includes lobes defined by alternating inwardly and outwardly tapered declining surfaces.
