  • Patent number: 4877339
Abstract: The invention relates to bearing support of a throttle valve shaft in the housing of an exhaust gas line in which the shaft is rotatably supported on both sides in a bearing sleeve element constructed cup-shaped. The cups themselves are retained by spring force against the housing extending correspondingly conically within these areas. In order to keep small the actuating forces necessary for the rotation of the throttle valve shaft, each bearing sleeve element is retained by itself against the housing by means of a spring supported at the housing and the securing of the shaft against any axial displacement takes place by a separate axial bearing.

  • Patent number: 4869649
Abstract: A water pump used in a cooling system for an internal combustion engine includes a pump shaft fixedly connected to an impeller means and detachably connected to a driven gear. The driven gear is in meshing engagement with a drive gear which is detachably mounted on a cam shaft rotated by the engine. The two shafts are not axially aligned, but are arranged in parallel relationship with each other. Thus, the optimum rotational ratio between the shafts may be obtained by adjusting the radii of the gears.

  • Patent number: 4854751
Abstract: An antifriction bearing, in which the outer ring is supported in the bore of a rotating machine part and secured by a retaining ring against axial displacement. The retaining ring is snapped into a circumferential groove of the bore and is supported, freely movable towards the outside in the radial direction, in the axial direction on the side of a conical surface facing away from the inner ring. By this structure, the axial contact pressure of a gasket of a polymeric material, which is disposed between the retaining ring and the radial antifriction bearing, and which bridges the gap between the outer ring and the inner ring of the antifriction bearing, increases as the rotational speed increases.

  • Patent number: 4722240
Abstract: An improved split thrust washer assembly for a vehicle transmission speed shaft. The assembly includes a pair of semi-circular washer segments held in a speed shaft circumferential groove by a C-type compression retaining ring. The ring biases each washer segment interior surface into contact with the groove base wall during maximum shaft speeds thereby neutralizing the centrifugal force tending to separate the segments from the groove. The segments have radially extending opposed end faces having a predetermined minimal clearance therebetween thereby insuring that the segments are maintained in contact with the groove. The thrust washer assembly allows a shallower groove to carry the design thrust loads so as to improve shaft fatigue life.

  • Patent number: 4614446
Abstract: A fastening device for the rollers of a roller bushing, such as a universal joint bushing. The roller bushing includes a pin, an outer bushing around and spaced from the pin and rollers between the pin and the outer bushing. A groove in the outer bushing receives a holding ring which is generally U shaped. The groove in the outer bushing is shaped for receiving the radially outer leg of the holding ring under tension. The radially inner leg of the holding ring has projections which cooperate with projections on an outer seal for snap-holding the outer seal to close off the space between the pin and the bushing. The radially-directed, axially inwardly facing surface of the transition leg of the holding ring rests against the axially inward surface of the groove. Further, an inner sealing element for the space between the pin and the outer bushing rests against that same surface of the transition leg of the holding ring.

  • Patent number: 4563099
Abstract: A rolling bearing unit, in particular a play-adjustable bearing arrangement, comprising a bearing shaft, a housing having a bore, and angular contact ball bearings having outer rings arranged in the housing bore and inner rings arranged on the bearing shaft. The shaft is provided with three annular grooves, a threaded portion, and an axial groove along the threaded portion. A locking ring is arranged in the first annular groove, a first cover is arranged on the shaft and abuts the locking ring, and the inner ring of the first bearing abuts the cover. The adjustment of the bearing play is achieved by adjustably arranging a second cover on the threaded portion of the shaft to abut the inner ring of the other ball bearing. The securing of the second cover against rotation relative to the shaft is achieved by deforming or indenting the boss of the cover to engage the axial groove.

  • Patent number: 4538928
Abstract: This invention teaches a means to retain a cutter cone onto a journal bearing of an earth boring rotary cone rock bit. Complementary and registering annular grooves are formed in the bearing surfaces of the journal and the cone. A tangential entry groove transitions from an end of the journal to the annular groove in the journal. Simultaneous 360.degree. rotation and axial movement of the cone over the journal, in combination with a ring distortion ramp block in the cone, threads an end of a split cone retention ring through the entry groove in the journal into the registering annular grooves, thereby retaining the cone on the journal.
