Abstract: A television broadcast receiver is provided, for example a set-top box or television set for terrestrial, cable and/or satellite broadcasts, comprising a memory for storing channel view data encoding channel view events and a processor. The processor stores channel view data in the memory and generates a signal encoding the channel view data. The signal is an audio and/or video signal. The processor then causes the signal to be presented to a viewer. Further provided is a method of receiving information about channel view events from a broadcast receiver. A signal encoding channel view data is received. The signal is a still image or video signal and/or an audio signal and the channel view data encodes channel view events. The signal is decoded to obtain the channel view data and the channel view data is decoded to obtain information about channel view events.

  • Patent number: 9712803
Abstract: A receiving system and a method of processing data are disclosed herein. The receiving system includes a receiving unit, a system information processor, a decoding unit, and a display unit. The receiving unit receives a broadcast signal including a 3D content and system information associated with the 3D content. The system information processor extracts identification information from the system information. Herein, the identification information may identify that the broadcast signal being received by the receiving unit includes the 3D content. The decoding unit decodes the received 3D content based upon transmission format information of the 3D content. Herein, the transmission format information may be included in the extracted identification information. And, the display unit displays the 3D content decoded by the decoding unit as a 3D image based upon a display method of a display device.

  • Patent number: 8347128
Abstract: A data processing device connects to a first display and operates in a power state including a power-off state, a recording standby state, and a power-on state. A second display displays an operation state of the data processing device. A power controller supplies electric power to a driver in the power-on state and the recording standby state, and stops supplying the electric power in the power-off state. The second display indicates that power is ON in the power-on state, and indicates that the power is OFF in the recording standby state and the power-off state. The power controller switches the power state from the recording standby state to the power-on state when a signal instructing start of a recording operation is received from the first display and the power state is the recording standby state.

  • Patent number: 8131133
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for modifying a television broadcast signal. In one embodiment, the system includes a memory that stores an alternate commercial signal, and a controller that is coupled to the memory and receives the broadcast signal. The broadcast signal includes a program signal and commercial signals. The controller substitutes the alternate commercial signal for one of the commercial signals upon determining that a first condition has been met, for example, upon the sensing two video/audio blank periods in the broadcast signal separated by a predetermined time period. In another embodiment, a broadcast signal including a series of screen signals alternating with a series of blanking signals is embedded, at an upstream location, with additional information relating to alternate commercials or commands during the blanking signals. At a downstream location, a controller processes the additional information and modifies the broadcast signal in response.

  • Patent number: 8064748
Abstract: An interface is realized that can prevent video signals from being copied easily and which uses a luminance/color difference signal transmission scheme with an excellent harmony with a television circuit. In a video transmission using a digital interface, colorimetry information for defining the conversion from the luminance/color difference signal into a primary color signal and video aspect ratio information are transmitted along with the luminance/color difference type video signal. This allows reproduction of video with high quality and high resolution and also realizes a copyright protection which allows only the users authorized by key information to use the content of the video. With this transmission scheme, it is possible to provide a transmitting apparatus, a receiving apparatus and an interface which highly harmonize with a rationalized television-based circuit.
