Commercial message retrieved from the recorder is interposed into a digital content or between a pair of digital contents in accordance with the type of commercial message. Interposition of commercial message is controlled by internal information, such as history of actually displaying the same commercial message, or history of skipping the same commercial message. The receiving apparatus controls the repetition time of displaying the same commercial message, or decision whether or not actually displaying a specific commercial message, or the order of displaying commercial messages. Skip of commercial message is prevented unless display has been repeated over a minimum requirement, or user agrees with a compensation for the skip. Repetition of the same commercial message ceases with skip repeated over a limit. Notice of interposing commercial message or of compensation for skip is made in advance.

Abstract: A system provides programming and advertising to a video decoder such as a digital video recorder, computer system, software or hardware player, etc. When a user makes a request to skip a commercial by issuing a command such as 30 second skip forward, alternate media is provided. In some examples, an image advertisement is provided for a predetermined period of time either during the commercial break or when regular programming resumes. In other examples, a substitute commercial is shown. The substitute commercial may be shortened or compressed. The alternate media may be perceptually encoded in a video stream, hidden in a video stream, or provided in a separate stream. In some examples, survey based and neuro-response based data is used to evaluate and select alternate media for particular programming.

The metadata may identify a point in time of the transport signal stream. The server may instruct an encoder to insert a marker into the transport signal stream corresponding to the point in time of the transport signal stream. The marker may indicate control of a trick mode to be enforced by a delivery platform subsequent to the point in time of the transport signal stream. The server may record the marker in a data store associated with the server.

When the target video playbacked on the main display reaches a first target point of time, the drama effect enhancing server instructs the first portable communication device to utilize the first screen to begin displaying the first auxiliary image.

Abstract: A problem with high resource-consuming managed copy is that simultaneous execution of the managed copy, which is controlled by a playback device, and a BD-J application, which is recorded on a recording medium, leads to a shortage in resources. Provided is a playback device that enables simultaneous execution of the managed copy and the BD-J application while preventing resource contention therebetween, by imposing an access limitation on the disc medium by causing the BD-J application to assume that the disc medium has been virtually ejected.

Abstract: According to example configurations as described herein, a media manager supports functions such as in-line display of video frame information for application of editing commands. Each of multiple frames in the in-line display can be derived from a respective bitmap. The bitmaps associated with the in-line display can be generated and cached during an editing session for easy access. After completion of the editing session and creation of a playback file specifying a media playback experience, a media manager deletes the cached bitmaps. Upon rendering of a video experience as specified by the playback file at a later time, a respective media player converts a format of video data as specified by the playback file into bitmap information again. Playback can include combining multiple frames of static images (as defined by the bitmaps) at different layers to produce a unique viewing experience.
