Abstract: A computing system may automatically infer one or more events that occur during an application session involving activity on a network, such as the Internet. Such an application session may be interactions with, for example, social networking websites, banking websites, news websites, and so on. Events are any of a number of activities or transactions that may occur during the application session. The computing system may automatically infer an event by gathering network transaction data for network transactions performed by one or more client devices of a wireless communication network. The computing system may generate a network activity signature based, at least in part, on the network transaction data and apply pattern recognition and/or machine learning to the network activity signature to infer events associated with the network activity signature.

Abstract: Technology for identifying segment starting locations in video compilations. The method includes: receiving an enumerated video compilation of a plurality of joined video segments; identifying enumerating text in key frames of the video compilation, wherein the key frames are at time intervals in the video compilation; and storing identified enumerating text information in relation to the key frames. The method then includes: analyzing the stored enumerating text information to identify time locations in the video compilation of a first occurrence of each enumerating value; and providing location references in the video compilation of the identified time locations for navigation.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an apparatus and method for simultaneously playing back and storing media without a plug-in in a web browser. In the present disclosure, since restoration of video, restoration of audio, and backup of media are performed in a multi-threaded manner using a web worker, it is possible to simultaneously perform playback and storage of media. To this end, interworking is performed between a video web worker performing restoration of video, an audio web worker performing restoration of audio, and a backup web worker performing backup of media. According to the present disclosure, it is possible to simultaneously perform playback and backup of media, and it is also possible to stop backup of media and then resume the backup.

The disclosed systems and methods provide systems and methods for automatically extracting and creating an animated Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) file from a media file. The disclosed systems and methods identify a number of GIF candidates from a video file, and based on analysis of each candidate's attributes, features and/or qualities, as well as determinations related to an optimal playback setting for the content of each GIF candidate, at least one GIF candidate is automatically provided to a user for rendering.

The metadata associated with the selected content and the metadata associated with the relevant additional content describe elements in the selected content and the relevant additional content identified, based on the processor(s) performing a content analysis of the selected content and the relevant additional content. The processor(s) selects the relevant additional content to provide to the first client, with the selected content, based on the similarity. The processor(s) displays the relevant additional content with the selected content on a viewer on the first client.

Abstract: A system and method for altering a website from a default appearance to a personalized appearance includes aggregating user-specific information based on an online user activity across a plurality of platforms, analyzing the aggregated user-specific information based on the online user activity to determine a user-preferred term for describing a category of an object, detecting a default term used to describe the category of the object on the default appearance of the website, in response to a determination that a user has accessed the website, and superimposing the user-preferred term on the website at a location of the default term on the website, such that the website is altered to display the user-preferred term to the user instead of the default term for the category of the object.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for managing recorded media assets through advertisement insertion. A media guidance application may record and store media assets for later viewing by a user. To help ensure that the user views older recordings first, the media guidance application may insert advertisements into media assets which are part of a program series where there are older recorded media assets of the same program series that have not yet been watched by the user. The media guidance application may determine that multiple media assets are part of the same program series, and which of the media assets was recorded latest. The media guidance application may then select a play position within the later-recorded media asset and insert an advertisement at the selected play position.

Abstract: An online system provides an advertisement (“ad”) request including ad content and a prompt to perform an action presented in association with the ad content. For example, the ad content is video data and the prompt for performing an action is presented after the video data is presented or after a portion of the video data is presented. Abstract: A graphical user interface allows a customer to specify delimiters and/or patterns that occur in event data and indicate the presence of a particular field. The graphical user interface applies a customer's delimiter specifications directly to event data and displays the resulting event data in real time. Delimiter specifications may be saved as configuration settings and systems in a distributed setting may use the delimiter specifications to extract field values as the systems process raw data into event data. Extracted field values are used to accelerate search queries that a system receives.

Abstract: Systems and methods for presenting two-dimensional (2D) content within a virtual reality (VR) presentation are disclosed. Some embodiments include providing the VR presentation to a user, receiving information of the 2D content for display during the VR presentation from an external source and obtaining location information related to a display location within the VR presentation for displaying the 2D content. The 2D content may be displayed at the display location based on the received information and the location information, wherein the display location corresponds to a 2D display rendered within the VR presentation.

Abstract: Video content can be analyzed to identify particular sections of the video content. Speech to text or similar techniques can be used to obtain a transcription of the video content. The transcription can be indexed (e.g., timestamped) to the video content. Information describing how users are interacting with or consuming the video content (e.g., social media information, viewing history data, etc.) can be collected and used to identify the particular sections. Once the particular sections have been identified, other services can be provided. For example, custom trailers and summaries of the video content can be generated based on the identified sections. Additionally, the video content can be augmented to include additional information relevant to the particular sections, such as production information, actor information, or other information. The additional information can be added so as not to interfere with the important sections.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for using selective resolution reduction on images to be transmitted and/or used by a playback device are described. Prior to transmission one or more images of an environment are captured. Based on image content, motion detection and/or user input a resolution reduction operation is selected and performed. The reduced resolution image is communicated to a playback device along with information indicating a UV map corresponding to the selected resolution allocation that should be used by the playback device for rendering the communicated image. By changing the resolution allocation used and which UV map is used by the playback device different resolution allocations can be made with respect to different portions of the environment while allowing the number of pixels in transmitted images to remain constant. The playback device renders the individual images with the UV map corresponding to the resolution allocation used to generate the individual images.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a method and system for altering a presentation of recorded content. More specifically, embodiments provide an accurate and efficient mechanism for suppressing advertisements by using downloaded templates to identify advertisements before suppression for a duration indicated by information downloaded about the advertisement, where the suppression is effectuated by controlling a display, set-top box or personal video recorder using remote-control functionality. In one embodiment, a digital signal representing the recorded content is accessed. Thereafter, a plurality of templates are received and stored, wherein each template represents a known portion of the recorded content. The digital signal is then compared against a portion of the plurality of stored templates. Upon a match, a control signal operable to alter a component of a presentation of the recorded content is generated.

Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the subject disclosure may include, for example, determining if a commercial contains one of metadata, close captioning information, recognizable speech in an audio component of the commercial, or a combination thereof. In response to determining that the commercial does not contain metadata, but does contain close captioning information, an advertised show is identified based on the close captioning information. Likewise, in response to determining that the commercial contains neither metadata, nor close captioning information, but does contain recognizable speech in an audio component of the commercial, the advertised show is identified based on the recognizable speech. Abstract: A DVR parses advertising audiovisual content, i.e., commercials, from a received audiovisual signal during recording. The DVR stores only commercial-free content and replaces parsed commercials with their URLs for retrieval during playback. During playback, the DVR requests commercial audiovisual content to be played back in place of the parsed commercials using the stored URLs, determines whether the commercial is played back in its entirely at a normal rate (not skipped), logs whether the commercial was skipped, and periodically sends a log of playback of all commercials to the commercial server. As a result, the commercial server has a complete record of all impressions of commercials played back through the DVR.

A countdown timer is generated from the advertisement information and displayed along with the content of the advertisement segment. Restrictions for different subscribers may be indicated in the advertisement information messages, e.g., with some end users being permitted to fast forward or skip advertisements with other users being required to allow the full normal playback of one or more advertisement segments. The auto pause function, when activated, pauses an ad segment or set of ad segments at a predetermined time before output of the main program resumes thereby making sure none of the main program is missed.

Abstract: Methods and products to deliver at least a portion of an advertisement to a viewer at normal playback speeds after receiving a command from the viewer to fast-forward through an advertisement faster than normal playback speeds is described. In certain embodiments, the invention delivers a portion of the advertisement to be played at normal playback speeds to the viewer; and delivers the remaining portion of the advertisement to be played at a playback speed that is faster than the specified playback speed so that the combination of the portions delivered at normal and faster playback speeds is delivered to the user at the specified playback speed. Abstract: A closed caption tagging system provides a mechanism for inserting tags into an audio or video television broadcast stream prior to or at the time of transmission. The tags contain command and control information that the receiver translates and acts upon. The receiver receives the broadcast stream and detects and processes the tags within the broadcast stream which is stored on a storage device that resides on the receiver. Program material from the broadcast stream is played back to the viewer from the storage device. Tags indicate the start and end points of a program segment. Program segments such as commercials are automatically replaced by the receiver with new program segments that are selected based on various criteria.
