Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for selective playback of portions of audio at normal speed during a fast-forward operation. Upon receiving a command to perform a fast-forward operation, a current playback position is identified, as well as a plurality of portions of audio of the content item that will be subject to the fast-forward operation. A subset of the audio portions that will be subject to the fast-forward operation are selected. The fast-forward operation is initiated, and video of the content item is played back at the increased speed while the selected portions of audio of the content item are played back at normal speed.

Abstract: Fragmented data on a storage device may be additionally stored in a cache. A cache weight for determining storage of a data unit can be determined. For example, a computing device can receive storage device characteristics from a storage device. A data unit comprising multiple fragments may be stored on the storage device. The computing device can receive data unit characteristics from the storage device. The computing device can determine a cache weight for the data unit. The computing device may output the cache weight for determining storage of the data unit in a cache.

Abstract: Setting a replay speed of a pre-recorded video presentation includes determining a mood of a presenter of the pre-recorded video presentation, determining complexity of material that is presented in the pre-recorded video presentation, and setting a replay speed based on the mood of the presenter and the complexity of the material that is presented. Setting a replay speed of a pre-recorded video presentation may also include adjusting the replay speed based on determining a desired speech tempo for a listener. The desired speech tempo of the listener may be based on time of day, age of the listener, and/or comprehension level of the listener. Measuring the comprehension level of the listener may be based facial expressions of the listener, eye-tracking of the listener, and/or listener comprehension quizzes. Measuring the mood of the presenter may be based on facial recognition, sentiment recognition, and/or gesture recognition.

Abstract: A video processing method is provided. In the method, a total video duration of a video and a played duration of the video are obtained in response to a video reverse playback instruction. The video reverse playback instruction indicates that the video is to be played in reverse order. A first reverse playback time point corresponding to the video is determined based on the total video duration and the played duration. Subdata from video data of the video is determined based on a time range indicated by the first reverse playback time point and a pre-loading time threshold. The subdata corresponds to the time range of the video. The subdata is pre-loaded to obtain pre-loaded video data. A first reverse playback video frame corresponding to the first reverse playback time point is obtained from the pre-loaded video data for playback in the reverse order.

The display device can include a controller. The controller can receive a content frame from a content source over a transport topology. The controller can receive a presentation timestamp (PTS) associated with the content frame, where the PTS indicates an earliest time at which the content frame is to be displayed at the display device. The controller can provide the content frame for display on the display panel at a subsequent panel refresh opportunity in accordance with the PTS.

Abstract: The disclosed technology is a system and computer-implemented method for assembling and editing a video program from spoken words or soundbites. The disclosed technology imports source audio/video clips and any of multiple formats. Spoken audio is transcribed into searchable text. The text transcript is synchronized to the video track by timecode markers. Each spoken word corresponds to a timecode marker, which in turn corresponds to a video frame or frames. Using word processing operations and text editing functions, a user selects video segments by selecting corresponding transcribed text segments. By selecting text and arranging that text, a corresponding video program is assembled. The selected video segments are assembled on a timeline display in any chosen order by the user. The sequence of video segments may be reordered and edited, as desired, to produce a finished video program for export.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for presentation of key frames. In one embodiment, an encoded video file is generated where one or more bits are assigned to key frames and minimizes the number of bits assigned to delta frames. Each key frame may be presented to a user during trick mode operation (e.g., fast forward, rewind, pause, or random seek operation). When the encoded video file is given to a packager, the packager generates a manifest file listing the byte information (byte offset and number of bytes) for each key frame in the encoded video file. When a user inputs a trick play mode command, the packager provides the manifest file to the client device of the user and the client device requests the bytes for the key frames of the video file from the content delivery network.

Abstract: A method and device for optimal playback positioning in video content are provided. The present disclosure relates to a mechanism of tagging scenes or significant points in content in a prioritized way, and defines a mechanism to utilize this tagging associated with the content to facilitate stopping or starting at appropriate points for playback, e.g., when pressing a scene skip button to jump forward or back to another scene, or when pressing Play after inputting a fast-forward or rewind instruction. The method and device provide for displaying video content at a playback speed for viewing, receiving a first navigation instruction to navigate the video content at a speed faster than the playback speed for viewing, receiving a second navigation instruction to displaying of the video content, and determining a playback position of the video content based on at least one tagged frame of the video content.

Abstract: According to a conventional technique for reproducing a frame of a small image change amount at a high speed and a frame of a large image change amount at a low speed, there are cases in which a proper high-speed reproduction representing the outline of the moving picture image data is not necessarily carried out. There is provided reproduction speed control means controlling the reproduction speed of summary reproduction based on a scene feature amount of a plurality of frames. A plurality of summary reproductions having different reproduction characteristics are enabled so that a user can easily grasp the outline of the moving picture image data, while suppressing fluctuation in reproduction speed.

Abstract: A method, apparatus (100) and system (200) for altering the playback speed of recorded content (105) to match a target syllable rate is provided. A user may enter a desired, target playback syllable rate through a user interface (101), such as a keypad or touch screen. Alternatively, the target playback syllable rate may be determined from identification of the source of the recorded content (105). An actual playback syllable rate (106) associated with the recorded content (105) is then determined. The recorded content (105) is then altered, by time domain harmonic scaling in one embodiment, such that the altered playback speed (109) substantially matches the target playback syllable rate. In so doing, a listener is able to receive recorded content (105) at a faster or slower rate than it is produced.
