Parting Agent Applicator Patents (Class 399/325)
  • Patent number: 6072978
Abstract: A printer or copier which operates by transfer printing has a fixing roller for affixing toner to the recording medium. A release agent, or parting oil, is applied to the roller by a dosing tube having openings through which the release agent flows to a wick. An application element is moved over the roller between the wick and the roller for cleaning and application of the release agent. The wick is held in guide elements and the lower guide element has a duct for collecting excess release agent and applying it to the application element.

  • Patent number: 6032016
Abstract: A fixing apparatus for controlling an oil transfer apparatus to maintain a releasing agent holding layer such that it is not always saturated with the releasing agent. This makes it a compact, cost-effective unit with a long service life and provides a uniform, stable oil coating that eliminates image noise problems. In order to use a constant and minimum necessary amount of releasing agent, a releasing agent supply nozzle is incorporated with multiple protrusive or retrusive droplet growth assisting members at or near multiple releasing agent discharge ports. The supply nozzle used for supplying the oil has multiple discharge holes having approximately equal opening cross-sectional areas and an equalizing member which equalizes the amount of oil discharged from each discharge hole. The outer diameter D1 of the oil supply roller, the outer diameter D2 of the metal core and the distance P of adjacent through-holes formed on the periphery of the metal core satisfy a relation, 0.6<D1.multidot.(D1-D2)/(D2.

  • Patent number: 6029040
Abstract: A fixing apparatus includes a fixing belt that pressure-thermally fixes unfixed toner images on sheets, and an oil coating roller that holds silicone oil for preventing the offset phenomenon to be coated on the fixing belt. The oil coating roller consists of an inner oil holding layer formed of paper and a surface oil holding layer formed of aramid fibers. The oil diffusing capacity and the oil holding capacity are reduced from the inner oil holding layer toward the surface oil holding layer. Thus, it is possible to suppress the oil coating amount in the initial period of the roller life to a level that does not cause problems such as oil stains, increase the oil coating amount in the final period of the roller life to a level that does not cause problems such as offsets, and prevent image noises.

  • Patent number: 6006063
Abstract: A fixing roller cooperates with a pressing roller to heat and press a toner image to a recording medium so as to fix the toner image to the recording medium. A sheet-like web is impregnated with a mold release for supplying the mold release to a surface of the fixing roller by being pressed by the pressing roller. • Patent number: 5995798
Abstract: Featured is a fixing device provided in an image forming device that includes a heat roll, a pressurization roll, an application member and a blade member. The heat roll has a surface that is heated to a desired temperature by a heating source and the pressurization roll presses a recorded medium (e.g., a paper sheet) holding an unfixed image to the heat roll. In this way, the unfixed image is fixed to the recorded medium by passing it between the heat roll and pressurization roll. The application member applies a release agent to the heat roll for preventing adherence of the unfixed image held on the recorded medium to the heat roll, where the release agent is impregnated to the application member and applied to the heat roll by capillary action. The blade member controls the application of the release agent so it is uniformly applied to the heat roll and removes excessive release agent to be applied on the heat roll.

The elastomeric fuser member may contain metal oxide particles. The low functionality release agent is relatively non-reactive. Depending on whether the elastomeric member contains the metal oxide particles, the functional chains of the high concentration release agent material which are periodically supplied to the fuser roll surface either attach to the metal particles exposed at the surface of the fuser roll by chemical bonds or to the elastomeric material itself. The non-reactive chains adhere to the functional chains by much weaker physical (such as van der Waals) chains.

The rotatable wick is adjustable between a first position in frictional contact with the fusing roller, wherein the rotatable wick is rotated by the fusing roller and applies an amount of offset-preventing liquid to the fusing roller, and a second position spaced from the fusing roller. An actuation structure selectively moves the rotatable wick between its first and second positions. A motor and a transmission interconnecting the motor and the rotatable wick, at least when the rotatable wick is in its second position, are provided to effect rotation of the rotatable wick to inhibit settlement of offset-preventing liquid in the rotatable wick.

Abstract: A RAM system including a metering roll and a pair of metering blades, is positioned in contact with a metering roll at a location intermediate, a nip formed through pressure contact of the metering roll with a donor roll, and a supply of release agent material such that as the metering roll is rotated in the imaging process direction release agent material is metered onto the metering roll and contaminants are prevented from getting deposited on the fuser roll. A second metering blade contacts the metering roll at a location that is intermediate the aforementioned nip and the supply of release agent such that when the metering roll is rotated in the direction opposite to the process direction excess release agent material and/or contaminants are prevented from being deposited on the fuser roll.

  • Patent number: 5835833
Abstract: A heat and pressure fuser and Release Agent Management (RAM) systems therefor. Dual RAM systems are provided. A first RAM system supplies functional release agent material having a relatively high concentration of functional chains (.about.O.05 to 0.3 mol %) to an elastomeric fuser member prior to a second RAM system which supplies release agent material having low functionally or no functionality.

Abstract: A device and method for measuring the thickness of liquid on an adjustable metering roll. The device comprising a transfer roll that mates with a back-up roll to form a nip through which a sheet passes for wetting a side of the sheet. An adjustable metering roll mates with the transfer roll and has a portion thereof positioned in a liquid filled sump for liquid to be added to an outside surface thereof. An optical sensor is positioned to detect the type of reflected light from the liquid on the outside surface of the metering roll and give off a Go/No Go signal when indicating contact between the metering roll and the transfer roll. The correct liquid thickness is obtained on the surface of the metering roll by further adjsutment of the metering roll.

The RAM system includes a metering roll, thin film and a metering blade supported for effecting intimate contact between the metering roll and the thin film. The thin film is supported for movement from a supply reel to a take-up reel for periodic movement of a new portion of the film into contact with the metering roll. In this manner, contamination in the area of contact between the metering roll and the thin film is minimized. Moreover, the thin film which has a high surface tension, minimizes blade wear.

  • Patent number: 5749036
Abstract: An image forming apparatus which has a structure such that the oil consumption in a detachable and changeable oil supply unit is accurately predicted in order to display appropriate change timing. This prevents continuation of a fixing operation when the fixing cannot be performed because oil has been consumed. The result is a reliable fixing operation in which offset is prevented. The oil consumption of a detachable oil supply unit is predicted using at least any one of size, material, and printing mode information. Oil consumption is used to calculate and predict the integrated value of the predicted oil consumption. If the integrated value of the predicted oil consumption exceeds a predetermined value, a message to change the oil supply is displayed. After the message has been displayed, the image forming apparatus is interrupted.
