  • Patent number: 6282731
Abstract: A multiple variable flush storage tank toilet has been developed as preferred state-of-the-art to improve the means of reducing the amount of water used in a water flush type toilet. The improved mechanism within the toilet storage tank relies on a partitioned smaller and larger compartmented space in accordance with that state-of-the-art. The variable means of flushing to obtain a multiplicity of smaller water flushes plus a larger water flush has been obtained by use of “V”-indented polygons. The mechanism for flushing is operated by using a conventional exterior tank handle and is adaptable for a variety of polygons. All functions of the mechanism are simplified beyond that of the current conventional toilet. The variety o flushings are duplicated as use of the toilet is continued.

  • Patent number: 5450634
Abstract: An incremental dual stage water-flush toilet has been developed to serve as a means of reducing to an absolute minimum the amount of water used in a water-flush type toilet. The toilet is comprised of a trapless toilet bowl with spring-loaded air valves over a pipe trap below floor level, and a water storage tank divided into a small and large compartments. An incremental flushing mechanism allows conventional type manual flushing of the toilet but will allow enough water to run into the bowl to cleanse the bowl and wash waste into the pipe trap below for interim retention. After multiple incremental flushings of that limited type, a major bowl flush containing enough water to clear the toilet bowl and also to wash all retained waste in the pipe trap into the available sewer line occurs. The sequence of smaller flushings with a larger flushing is again repeatable.

Abstract: There is disclosed a mechanism for initiating and controlling a toilet: flush mechanism of the type which permits selection between two flush cycles which use different volumes of water end which, to do that, requires that the flush valve be lifted to either of two levels. Each of two rotating handles drives a shaft which rotates a flush lever arm. The shafts are concentric. One of flush lever arms has a longer crank portion than the other so that points on the lever portion move a greater vertical distance for a given angular rotation than move corresponding points on the flush lever arm with the shorter crank portion. A single blocking member limits the rotation of both flush lever arms to the same range of angular motion. Tabs on a bushing for the shafts supplement the blocking member by stopping rotation of the handle approximately when the blocking member contacts the flush lever arm driven by that handle.

  • Patent number: 5319809
Abstract: An improved dual mode flush mechanism which provides the selection of either a full flush or a partial flush mode, by manipulating one flush control handle. A full flush is obtained by pushing the handle downward, in the conventional manner, which rotates an actuating lever upward to engage and lift a flush valve lift arm to fully open the flush valve. A partial flush is obtained by lifting the flush handle upward, which rotates the actuating lever downward engaging and rotating one end of a double cam downward, causing the opposite end to pivot upward, which engages and lifts the flush valve lift arm, to a limiting stop position, to partially open the flush valve. Releasing the flush handle causes the flush valve to immediately close, allowing a minimum amount of flushing water for light liquid waste. The flush handle can be held upward against the stop position for a longer time, to allow more flushing water as may be required for darker liquid waste, while still using less water than a full flush.

  • Patent number: 4937895
Abstract: A float has a bore which slidably embraces the overflow tube in a toilet tank. The float carries a valve actuator therebelow with structure which permits adjustment of the downward position of the valve actuator. The float and/or valve actuator may be non-round in order to fit closely adjacent the wall of the toilet tank. When the flapper valve at the bottom of the toilet tank is raised to release flush water, the float descends with lowering water level and the actuator closes the flapper valve before all toilet tank water is released, to thereby conserve water.

  • Patent number: 4881279
Abstract: A dual flush mechanism which allows the user to select either a full or partial flush, while using a single flush valve. A full flush is obtained by a first handle which lifts a flush valve actuating arm to unseat the flush valve in a conventional manner. For a partial flush, a second handle rotates and lifts a partial-flush control arm which extends beneath the flush valve actuating arm. Upward movement of the partial-flush control arm is limited. Release of the second handle permits the control arm to rotate downwards until stopped by the engagement of a portion of the control arm with a transversely extending lever extension, thereby keeping the flush valve in an unseated position. As the tank water lever lowers, a partial-flush float also lowers, pulling down the end of a lever which pivots so as to linearly retract the lever extension from engagement with the partial-flush control arm. This permits the control arm to drop, reseating the flush valve.

  • Patent number: 4864665
Abstract: An improved dual flush system for toilets to effect a partial or mini-flush of the toilet to carry away liquid waste by partially opening of the main valve situated in the water holding tank of a toilet for a period of time determined by an operator. The described device provides means to limit the upward lifting of the main valve by limiting the rotational movement of the lever arm connected to the main valve by a cord or chain. Upward movement of the lever arm is limited within the flush handle assembly connecting to the lever arm wherein a partial flush handle movement is terminated by striking a modified eccentrically shaped cam situated within a hollowed out cavity in the partial flush handle, and a full flush handle is provided to continue raising the lever arm to effect a full flush.

  • Patent number: 4791689
Abstract: Apparatus for filling a toilet tank with water and discharging the water therefrom has a valve base for supplying water to the toilet tank. A valve is in a hollow passage of the valve base for closing the hollow passage to the supply of water when pulled vertically. An axle is connected at one end to the valve plug. An axle floater is on the opposite end of the axle for pulling the valve vertically when the toilet tank is full of water. A buoy base discharges water from the toilet tank. A discharge buoy closes the buoy base until pulled from the buoy base, and then floats on the water in the toilet tank back to the buoy base as the water is discharged. A pulling chain connects the discharge buoy to a command lever which is tiltable by a command handle on the outside of the toilet tank to pull the discharge buoy from the buoy base with the pulling chain. The command lever also engages the axle, to tilt the axle when the command lever is tilted, which opens the valve for supplying the water.

  • Patent number: 4631760
Abstract: An automatic flushing system for use with toilets or urinals which includes a tank having a siphon outlet and a hollow float which has a water access port and an air access port. There is also provided support means for supporting the float for generally vertical movement within the tank. There is also provided a tank inlet and tank inlet valve means which is operated by the support means for controlling flow of water through the tank inlet. There is also provided air access port valve means for controlling flow of air into the float. The support means is suitably characterized to enable the float to reach the intermediate holding level which is lower than the maximum level within the tank. The air access port valve means may also control flow of air through the air access port in such a manner as to provide a water seal associated therewith and a gas lock in the hollow float.

  • Patent number: 4485501
Abstract: A toilet flush mechanism conserves water by offering a choice made by the direction of rotation of the flushing handle of either actuating a first lever initiating the discharge of a full tank of water or actuating a second lever initiating the discharge of a predetermined fraction of the water in the full tank, herein designated a mini-flush. A flapper valve controlling the discharge of water from the tank is opened by the actuation of either of the levers, is permitted to close in conventional fashion when the tank is empty upon first lever actuation and is closed by a downward thrust of a striker upon second lever actuation. A water level responsive device including a second float triggers the striker and acts independently of the ballcock valve and float which maintains the full level of water in the conventional manner.

  • Patent number: 4447919
Abstract: A device for controlling the discharge of water from a toilet tank, in either a full flush mode or a partial flush mode, utilizes an opening mechanism that produces the full flush in its normal condition and without need for any extraordinary manipulation. Shifting the operating handle inwardly, while rotating it in the customary manner, will produce a partial discharge of the contents. The device includes a biasing member, which engages a moving part of the valve assembly to exert a closing bias thereupon, but which does not unduly limit the movement of the valve plug so as to constrain it to less than a fully open position.
