Patent number: 5311707Abstract: A joint between an upper wall part and a lower wall part of a modular tub/shower unit includes a recessed band adjacent to but spaced from the lowermost edge of the upper wall part. A further band is recessed at the uppermost edge of the lower wall part with the vertical height of that band being greater than the vertical height of the recessed band in the upper wall part and greater than a band at the lowermost edge which is not recessed. The lowermost band of the upper wall part is then adhesively attached to the uppermost edge and a part of the recessed band of the part by a double sided adhesive tape the covering of which is pulled through the gap between these parts. The adhesive tape provides the only sealant necessary for waterproofing the joint and provides the only structural strength necessary. The groove above the lowermost band of the upper wall part allows the upper wall part to be maneuvered into the required position by finger engagement into the groove.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1993Date of Patent: May 17, 1994Assignee: Fiat Products Ltd.Inventors: Joel A. Patent number: 4316294Abstract: A bathtub comprising a body having an insulated interior, preferably wood or pressed wood fibers bonded together by a suitable adhesive, an exposed exterior covering of fiberglass, plastic or the like with a non-skid impervious surface. The body comprises a uniquely configurated concavity or well adapted to comfortably receive the body of any size person and to conserve water while entirely covering the body, with the exception of the head. The well comprises opposed peanut-shaped vertical sidewalls each having an inwardly extending non-splash lip. A contoured area between the sidewalls runs from the front to the back of the tub in the well. The front of the mentioned area comprises a vertical front end wall which merges into a generally horizontal front bottom area which accommodates a standing position by the user when the bathtub is used for showering.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1980Date of Patent: February 23, 1982Inventor: Naomi G. Patent number: 4299064Abstract: Both a tub surround kit and a method for installing a tub surround are disclosed. The kit comprises four wall panels for covering the back and two side walls surrounding a tub, and two corner panels for covering the joints between the back wall and the two side walls surrounding the tub. The two corner panels each include a pair of orthogonally disposed flanges which terminate in flared, flexible lips for overlapping adjunct edges of the four panels, thereby joining the four wall panels together. The back faces of the flanges of each of the corner panels are adhered or otherwise affixed to the wall corners so that the flared, flexible lip or each of the flanges is yieldably deformed around the edge of the adjacent panel in overlapping relationship.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1979Date of Patent: November 10, 1981Inventor: Phillip D. Patent number: 4290154Abstract: A bathtub of the type having a bottom and four sides is improved by providing a smooth continuous, horizontally extending planar surface extending outwardly from the top of the four sides. A skirt member extends downwardly from this planar surface for a short distance. Located within the skirt member is a retaining member which is capable of retaining an apron panel in a fixed alignment with the tub such that the apron panel is interchangeable with the left and right sides of the tub allowing the tub to be used interchangeably in installations which previously required either a right or left handed tub. Extending along the longitudinal axis of the bottom of the tub is a runner retaining member to which is attached one or more runners which suspend the tub above a supporting surface allowing both drain and inlet pipes to be located between the supporting surface and the tub.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1979Date of Patent: September 22, 1981Assignee: Benjamin Manufacturing Company, Inc.Inventor: William H. Patent number: 4289717Abstract: A method for fabricating a cushioned bathroom article. A fiberglass-reinforced, polyester resin base is fabricated, preferably by a two-part mold resin injection process. A composite, flexible polymeric skin is fabricated in two steps. In the first step, a first layer of an appropriate resinous material is applied to a form which has a configuration generally complementary to the configuration of the base. A second layer of relatively dense, flexible skin foam is applied to the first layer while the first layer is still on the form. The base is assembled with the coated form so that a cavity is defined between the base and the composite skin, and a flexible cellular foam, preferably of polyurethane, is formed in the cavity by an in situ foaming process.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1979Date of Patent: September 15, 1981Assignee: The Soft Bathtub CompanyInventor: Wayne E. Patent number: 4267609Abstract: A gasket assembly is provided for coupling the drainage outlet openings of a bathtub and of a plastic liner installed within the bathtub for renovating the latter. The gasket assembly includes a hollow cylindrical body inserted in the space between the bottom wall of the plastic liner and the bottom wall of the bathtub, and having flanges at its upper and lower ends for making sealed connections with the drainage outlet opening of the bathtub and the overlying outlet opening of the plastic liner. The gasket body is made of elastomeric material and has an accordion-pleated side wall so that it is stretchable and compressible and therefore adaptable to bathtub installations of differing sizes. One-way valve means are also provided on the gasket body for draining out water which may accumulate in the space between the plastic liner bottom wall and the bottom wall of the bathtub.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1978Date of Patent: May 19, 1981Assignee: Thermasol Ltd.Inventors: Gilbert Altman, Gerard Bellasalma
