  • Patent number: 5946746
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for installing a faucet on a top side of a deck. The apparatus includes a threaded member engaged with the faucet and extending through the mounting hole to be rotated from above the deck. A nut is threadedly connected to the threaded member to pass through the mounting hole to the underside of the deck and to be shifted toward and away from the underside of the deck responsive to the direction of rotation of the threaded member. A second member associated with and parallel to the threaded member engages the nut to prevent rotation thereof during rotation of the threaded member whereby the nut will be shifted up or down along the length of the threaded member responsive to the direction of rotation of the threaded member. A retaining bracket is pivotally connected to the nut and gravity balanced to assume a free position across the nut which is substantially perpendicular to the threaded member when the nut has been shifted downwardly sufficiently away from the deck.

Abstract: The invention comprises an apparatus and method for the hands-free controlling of the on and off operation and temperature of the water flow from the spout (100) through the use of proximity sensors (10) that detect the proximity of a person's hand (H) relative to the spout. The spout (100) therefore functions as a transmitter antenna (170) to emit a time varying electrostatic (primary) field (Fp). When a portion of a person's body such as a hand (H) or finger enters the field, the primary field (Fp) is coupled to the person's body. The person's body then radiates a secondary field (Fs) in syncopation with the primary field (Fp). An antenna receiver (140) is located behind the front panel of the vanity of the sink (100) to receive the secondary field (Fs). Electronic circuitry (200) including a microprocessor with software then processes the received signal to perform the desired functions.

The trim plate faucet spout opening is of a size to cover a portion of the filler ring with an interior portion of the filler ring extending closely about the faucet spout and outwardly through the trim plate faucet spout opening. There is a sensor opening in the trim plate spaced from the faucet spout opening and a sensor is positioned in the sensor opening. There is an anti-rotation pin opening adjacent the sensor opening and an anti-rotation pin positioned in the opening and extending into the sensor to prevent rotation thereof.
