Patent number: 7305784Abstract: An index tab adapter, suitable for retrofitting an existing file folder for use with a particular index tab style. The adapter has adhesive portions, located on either side of a non-adhesive portion. The non-adhesive portion is slotted and is spaced apart from the file folder. The slots are shaped to engage a particular style of index tab, so that when a given index tab is inserted into the slots in the adapter, the given index tab becomes attached to the file folder, and the file folder may be identified by the given index tab as if it were originally configured to accept the style of the given index tab. Put another way, an index tab removably engages slots in the adapter, rather than slots in the file folder itself.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2005Date of Patent: December 11, 2007Assignee: Smead Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Steven Charles Black

Patent number: 6332285Abstract: A plastic tab for indexing or marking a folder or an edge portion of an article such as an organizer or storage system. The lower portion of the tab has two downwardly extending walls, between which an edge of the folder or other article may be placed. The downwardly extending walls are configured and adapted to create an interference fit when the folder or other article is inserted between the walls of the tab. The interference fit enables the tab to remain securely in the desired position along the edge portion. The tab is made of a flexible polymeric material so that it may be mounted, re-positioned or removed easily. Removal of the tab from a wall edge causes the walls to flex apart and thereby eliminate or minimize the interference fit between the tab lower walls and the article on which the tab is mounted. Removal of the tab is therefore a smooth and simple operation that minimizes breakage of the tab or damage to the folder, organizer or storage medium.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1999Date of Patent: December 25, 2001Assignee: Esselte CorporationInventors: Eric R. Patent number: 5924227Abstract: An index card for any index file (such as a lateral or flat index file or a rotary index file) is divided into upper and lower portion by a pair of score lines that extend inwardly from the lateral edges thereof and terminate at cut lines extending parallel to the side edges of the card. The cut lines extend parallel to the side edges of the card are interconnected by a cut line extending substantially parallel to the top and bottom of the card to thereby form a tab that extends from a folded edge formed when the upper portion of the card is folded about the score lines to overlie the lower portion of the card. Accordingly, indicia may be printed on the tab will be immediately available to the user of the file.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1997Date of Patent: July 20, 1999Inventor: Stephen J. Sommers

Patent number: 5900307Abstract: A self-laminating system for sealing a business card or the like to a luggage tag. The self laminating system comprises a rigid backing, a flexible transparent sheet with a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive material thereon and a removable cover liner which covers the entire area of the pressure sensitive adhesive material. The cover liner has a pre-cut crease which separates it into an upper portion and a lower portion, where the upper portion is pre-removed such that an exposed area of the pressure sensitive adhesive material on the flexible transparent sheet is affixed to the rigid backing. The card is placed between the rigid backing and the transparent sheet such that the lower portion of the cover liner is peeled off which exposes the rest of the pressure adhesive material so that the flexible transparent sheet can be securely affixed to the business card and the periphery of the rigid backing.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1996Date of Patent: May 4, 1999Assignee: Innovation Specialties, Inc.Inventor: John C. Patent number: 5875579Abstract: This index tab for a divider sheet or a file folder includes first and second panels and folded against each other attached to the sheet so that the tab includes a first pocket portion extending a relatively short distance outwardly from the sheet margin and a second pocket portion extending inwardly a substantially greater distance from the sheet margin. The index tab includes a closed end defined by the fold line and an open end, disposed opposite the closed end, the open end receiving an insert which may extend substantially the full length of the index tab.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1996Date of Patent: March 2, 1999Assignee: American Trading and Production CorporationInventor: Debra Winzen

Patent number: 5724757Abstract: An index card sized to be wedged within the slots of a storage case for organizing audio or video media containers such as CD jewel boxes or the like. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, a card body is sized to be coextensive with a container. A tab or index element projects outwardly from the card body so that identifying information can be placed thereon. The card body also contains a locking member to lock the index card within the storage device so that the media container can be removed without disturbing the orientation of the index card. The locking member may also be used to allow the index card to be freestanding.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1995Date of Patent: March 10, 1998Inventor: Ronald William Warden

Patent number: 5658205Abstract: A golf club aligning aid is provided which allows a golfer to quickly improve his or her golf swing. The aligning aid can be a small strip of flexible material which can be disposed with a planar "flag" portion which is disposed perpendicular to the shaft of the club. This planar portion can be rotated about the shaft for proper alignment with respect to the leading edge of the face of the golf club head. Preferably, the aligning aid is attached on or near the handle of the club by being snugly wrapped around the shaft and attached to itself, such as by a hook and loop fastener. In one embodiment, the aligning aid also has a graphical design disposed on one end of the planar portion. The graphical design has a first axis which, when the aid is attached to the clubs is perpendicular to the shaft of the golf club and a second axis designed to be disposed parallel to the shaft of the club. The ratio of the length of the second axis to the length of the first axis is between about 0.25 and about 0.75.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1996Date of Patent: August 19, 1997Inventor: Ted L. Patent number: 5597634Abstract: A changeable label pad has a base label layer which can be adhesively attached to a recording media container. A first adhesive having a first strength attaches the base label layer to the container. At least two label segments are attached to the base label layer. The label segments combine to cover most of the base label layer and the label segments are separated from each other. A second adhesive having a second strength which is weaker than that of the first adhesive attaches the label segments to the base label layer. The total area of all of the label segments in a layer of label segments is less than the total area of all of the label segments in an underlying layer of label segments.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1995Date of Patent: January 28, 1997Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Glenn A.
