A battery powered air pump is mounted in the interior compartment, and an inflatable structure is releasably retained about the top wall and has a deflated stowage volume that is less than a portion of the compartment. The apparatus is formed with a shape that when inflated projects away from the base when pressurized. A valve couples the pump with the inflatable structure, and is configured to manually and/or automatically retain and release pressure within the structure. The apparatus may also incorporate control and access panels, a pressure sensor for automated inflation and deflation, a cover to retain the stowed inflatable structure, a power supply and/or charging port, and lighting.

In some embodiments, one side of the lens frame is attached to a corresponding side of the frame bracket with a rotatable clip that allows the lens frame to swing such that its other side can attach to the bracket frame with an attachment latch, which can be magnetic, for example.

While the sign is folded for storage and transportation, when the sign is expanded it essentially resembles traditional “A” frame structures with the same overall dimensions.

    Abstract: A device having a self-winding element is described. The self-winding element is built on a flexible membrane; it has an extended form and a retracted form. Stiffness in the extended form may be provided using membrane curvature, or a retractable support member may be used, or both. Transitions between the extended form and the retracted form are preferably accomplished using sequential activation of tensile members that are configured in segments of the membrane. Activation of the tensile elements is preferably implemented using a processor or controller that activates tri-state drivers in a predetermined sequence in order to pass a current through each element when heating is desired. A preferred material used for the tensile elements is thin film NITINOL.
