Abstract: The present invention provides a combined package comprising a container and a mascara applicator. The applicator includes a hollow shaft having a longitudinal axis extending from the handle. A rod having a brush affixed at one end reciprocates within the hollow shaft. The rod has a first position and a second position such that when the handle of the applicator is secured to the container the rod reciprocates to the first position extending the hinge beyond the hollow shaft such that the brush is substantially non-aligned with the longitudinal axis of the hollow shaft. Upon removal of the applicator from the container the rod reciprocates to the second position causing the hinge to retract within the hollow shaft, thereby substantially aligning the brush with the longitudinal axis of the hollow shaft. This combined package allows the user to stir the product within the container when both attaching and removing the applicator to and from the container.

Abstract: An applicator element and a cap are adapted to be mounted on a neck provided on an upper part of a container. The cap is mounted on the neck by a capsule carrying the applicator element and capable of directly ensuring closure of the container by the cooperation of a first screw thread provided on an inner surface of the capsule with a corresponding second screw thread provided externally on the neck of the container. The capsule also carries a seal adapted to cooperate with an edge of the neck when the capsule is placed on the container in the closed position. The cap is mounted on the capsule and connected to the capsule by a screw-type connection in the same direction as that of the first and second threads. The connection between the cap and the capsule offers less resistance than that between the capsule and the neck of the container.

Abstract: An eyelash mascara applicator wand includes a first rod and a bristle-carrying second rod extending transversely relative to the first rod. The rods are joined at a location spaced from both ends of the second rod. Bristles are located on both sides of that junction. The second rod is curved within a plane oriented perpendicular to a plane containing the first rod. The first rod comprises inner and outer sections oriented at a right angle to one another. Alternatively, the first rod could be curved.

Abstract: The disclosed invention uses an open-top vessel for supporting a water rinsed razor and its blade, the vessel being filled with mineral oil to a level above the blade. Different mechanisms are used for holding the razor and for moving the submerged razor and mineral oil relative to one another. One mechanism comprises mechanically gripping the razor and moving it through the mineral oil contained within the vessel. Another mechanism comprises moving the mineral oil, by pumping it or vibrating it, relative the razor. The disclosed invention also uses a portable storage vessel having a brush bristle outlet for the mineral oil, and brushing the mineral oil onto the blade manually. In using all such mechanisms, the razor blade is effectively coated with the mineral oil to isolate it from the atmospheric air and thereby protect it from dulling caused by corrosion.

Abstract: A cosmetic liquid applicator having a tubular shaft, a rotary knob at a rear end of the shaft and a piston axially slidable in the shaft upon rotation of the rotary knob. A nib, mounting to a forward end of the tubular shaft, has a passage communicating with a liquid chamber. A plurality of radially extending pojections are provided so that they are gradually reduced in diameter in the forward direction. A discharge hole is communicated with the passage, and a slot extends forwardly and rearwardly from the discharge hole in opposite directions of and transverse to the projections.

Abstract: A cosmetic container is provided with at least two ribs along its inner walls that extend inwardly so that an applicator such as a mascara brush contacts the ribs. This divides the container into at least two chambers defined by the rib and brush. Unscrewing the container cap causes agitation, mixing and stirring of the cosmetic product in the chambers by the flexing snapping action of the applicator brush against the ribs stirring up the product contained in the chambers. This provides an improved cosmetic product that has a consistent viscosity and color so that it can be applied more uniformly.

Abstract: A cosmetics applicator comprises a rod having a threaded portion on the distal end of the rod, and characterized by a plurality of feed channels extending along the length of the rod and transected the threads. The space between the transecting threads and the portion of the feed channel lying below the depth of the threads carries an additional reservoir of cosmetics, and comb points are formed at the tips of the transecting threads for better separating eyelashes. The threaded cosmetics applicator with feed channels is particularly well adapted for applying mid-weight thixotropic mascaras to eyelashes.

Abstract: A cosmetics container includes a bottle for holding liquid cosmetics and a cap having extending therefrom a rod and applicator brush for applying the cosmetics. The rod and applicator brush are inserted into the bottle through a resilient wiper comprising a tubular sleeve and an apertured wiper diaphragm. The wiper is mounted in the neck of the bottle by means of a wiper mounting ring, which receives and holds the wiper and snap-fits into the bottle neck. The size of the wiper mounting ring may be varied to fit into various size bottle necks without altering the wiper/applicator/cosmetics combination. The wiper and wiper mounting ring are assembled together prior to insertion into the bottle, so that they can be inspected prior to final assembly.

Abstract: The invention is an improved shoe care kit that simplifies the process of shoe polishing by virtue of consolidating conventional shoe shine components such as a brush applicator and/or polishing cloth into a convenient compact storage container. The shoe care kit is designed to be used in conjunction with a commercially produced shoe polish container by clamping the shoe care kit onto the polish container's lid to form an integral kit with the polish container. In the storage mode, the kit is an attractive compact unit and its own traveling or storage case ready to be used by the conventional shoe polishing method.

Abstract: A container for a thixotropic product includes a cap and a rod connected to the cap at one end thereof and having a brush at the opposite end which when the cap is attached to the container extends into the container through an orifice, the edge of which forms a wiping zone; an insertion channel is disposed at the entrance to the container and a helical spring is fixed on the interior of the insertion channel with the axis of the spring to substantially coinciding with the axis of the wiping zone with the spring being situated at least in the vicinity of a wiper with the inner diameter of the wiper being less than the largest diameter of the brush; when the brush passes into the interior of the spring while filled with the product, it is unloaded and reloaded as it passes over the turns of the spring which results in strirring of the product thereby breaking the thixotropy of the product.

Abstract: A mascara container is provided with a stirrer comprising an oblong frame having side elements spaced inward from the container wall. The spacing permits working of the fluid adjacent the stirrer blades against the stationary fluid adhering to the wall of the container, such working and related shear makes the fluid less viscous so that it flows downward in the container.

Abstract: A brush construction which includes a brush handle having a hollowed end portion for receiving a tuft of bristles. The tuft of bristles are reversely folded about a plastic filament, and the filament reversely folded whereby the free ends of the plastic filament and the associated tuft of bristles form a bundle which, when inserted into the hollow end portion of the handle is positively retained therein by the inherent resiliency of the bundle. To more securely retain the tuft of bristles to the handle, the handle may be made of plastic whereby the plastic filament can be sonically welded or fused to the plastic brush handle.

Abstract: The invention relates to a reservoir for cosmetics, in particular a mascara unit, comprising a main body of a comparatively soft plastic material, with a threaded neck, on which a screw cap can be screwed, with at least one stop shoulder and at least one return stop in the form of a locking arrangement being provided at the foot of the threaded neck at the shoulder of the reservoir to achieve a defined end position of the screw cap. In order to overcome the wear problems with such soft plastic material which are encountered by known devices, it is provided that an attachment of a comparatively hard material is arranged on the reservoir at the foot of the threaded neck, on which attachment the stop shoulder and the return stop are formed.

Abstract: An improved cosmetic package, particularly for eye make-up such as mascara, comprising a container, a cap having an applicator extendable into the container and a wiping body within the neck of the container. The package is particularly suited for applicators having an irregular cross-section and provides for threaded cooperation between the cap and container by a construction wherein the cap and applicator are relatively rotatable about their common longitudinal axis. An alternative construction provides for the applicator to be fixed within the cap and the wiping body to be relatively rotatable with the container about their common longitudinal axis. These constructions allow applicators with irregular cross-sections to be used in containers where the cap and container attach by means of cooperating threads.

An outwardly protruding shoulder portion disposed on a base portion of the brush member limits the outward travel of the brush member and holds the brush member captively within the cap assembly.

Abstract: The invention provides a novel method for evenly applying cosmetics, especially mascara, to an applicator brush and to the eyelashes. A cosmetic applicator formed with an applicator brush is removed from a container holding the cosmetic in a manner such that the applicator brush rubs against an applicator brush belonging to another applicator, thereby cleaning the brush to remove loose particles of the cosmetic and also causing cosmetic in the vicinity of the rubbing brushes to mix. This mixing action tends to thin ends of the cylindrical container and wherein the eyelash brushes of each of the cosmetic applicators are positioned along substantially the same longitudinal axis when the cap means of both cosmetic applicators are capped onto the container.

Abstract: A bottle has an applicator designed for use in applying nail polish. The interior walls of the bottle are sloped to direct the nail polish to the applicator tip. In a first embodiment, the front exterior wall and the bottom exterior surface of the bottle form a forty five degree angle. In a second embodiment, the front exterior wall and the bottom exterior surface of the bottle form a sixty degree angle. A fingernail shaped absorbent foam tip is attached to one end of the applicator shaft. The opposite end of the shaft is attached to a snap on cap for the bottle. The bottle has a volume of seven to nine ml., thus ensuring that the entire volume of nail polish may be utilized before degradation. The cap has concave recesses to facilitate manipulation of the applicator by a user. In a third embodiment, the applicator is in the form of an eye dropper type tube with an enlarged collector cavity adjacent a lower end. The applicator is actuated by a push button cap.

When the closure is fitted to the container, the member forms an interference fit with the inner wall of the container and is retained when the closure is removed. The metal shell can serve to inhibit escape of vapor from the cosmetic solvent through the container wall. For improved integrity of the container, the inner surface of the metal shell can be formed with a set of circumferentially spaced, axially extending ribs which bite into the plastic of the inner container, when the container is assembled by pushing the shell onto the inner container, to form grooves in which the ribs engage tightly. An aperture can be formed in the outer shell for displaying to the user the color of the contained cosmetic preparation.
