  • Patent number: 6523548
Abstract: A cosmetic package has a pouch container insert in an outer shell. The pouch container insert includes all of the elements required to make the cosmetic applicator device functional, i.e., a pouch container defining a product storage chamber, a neck member with a passage to the storage chamber, a cap on the neck member to close the passage and an applicator wand extending from the cap through the passage into the storage chamber. In addition, the neck member includes a flange adapted to connect the pouch container to the package outer shell. The flange has outwardly projecting teeth that engage the outer shell to prevent rotation of the insert with respect to the outer shell. The flange may be modified to adapt it to different outer shells. Thus, the insert is adaptable to outer shells having a variety of different shapes and materials.

  • Patent number: 6505632
Abstract: A mascara applicator includes an applicator wand and a container therefor. The wand includes a handle, a stem extending from the handle, and a brush attached to the stem and extending transversely relative to the stem. The container forms an internal chamber which contains mascara and in which the stem and brush can be inserted. The container forms a channel extending perpendicular to an axis of the stem for enabling the brush to be inserted into or removed from the container. The handle includes a sealing lug which seals across the channel when the applicator wand is installed in the container. To remove the wand, the wand is moved in a first direction parallel to the stem axis to bring the brush into alignment with the channel; then the wand is moved in a second direction perpendicular to the stem axis to move the brush through the channel.

Abstract: The brush (1) includes a core (2) formed from a metal wire bent into a U and the branches of which are twisted to trap radial bristles (3) between them, the core (2) being fixed to the end of a wand (6). The branches of the core are twisted, turning to the left, to form turns which turn in the clockwise direction about the axis (X) of the core when progressing from the wand towards the end of the brush, whereas the bristles (3) of the brush form helical layers (S) rising from left to right in the area located between the core and an observer who holds the brush substantially vertical in front of him/her with its tip pointing upwards.

  • Patent number: 6315140
Abstract: A bottle/cap assembly with sweep-and-drain action includes a bottle, a cap and a sweep-and-drain mechanism. The bottle has in series, from the bottom to the top, a closed bottom, a body sidewall, a cylindrical neck sidewall, and an open top. The cap is configured and dimensioned to be rotatably received about the neck sidewall and includes a closed cap top to close the open top and prevent egress of liquid from within the bottle. The sweep-and-drain mechanism includes (i) a circumferentially spaced plurality of vertically extending grooves or slots in the bottle extending downwardly from the open top through said neck sidewall, and (ii) a circumferentially spaced plurality of radially extending vanes or wipers projecting downwardly from the closed cap top towards the open top.

  • Patent number: 6309125
Abstract: A mascara applicator includes a brush attached to a wand which is preformed with a predetermined bend angle which presents the brush in an offset orientation that makes it easier and more convenient to apply mascara to eyelashes. In a first embodiment, the wand is a narrow gauge wire or tube of a shape memory alloy which is characterized by pseudo-elasticity, and the wire or tube is deformed by a predetermined longitudinal bend angle in its relaxed memory recovery state. In an alternative embodiment, the wand includes link segments of a narrow gauge rod or tube of relatively stiff plastic material. At least two of the segments are joined together by a living hinge section which permits the wand to flex preferentially at the living hinge in response to a bending force. The living hinge is also characterized by flex memory recovery in which it automatically assumes a predetermined bend angle in the absence of a bending force.
