Patent number: 6280108Abstract: A lotion applicator that has a hollow handle for containing lotion. The hollow handle has a closable opening and flexible walls such that the squeezing of the walls forces lotion contained within the hollow handle to exit the closable opening. A casing is attached to the handle and covers the closable opening. A casing cap is removably attached to the casing such that a storage compartment is formed by the attachment of the casing cap to the casing. A porous pad is contained within the storage compartment and is for absorbing lotion squeezed out of the handle. Some purposes of the casing cap are to delay drying of the pad, protect the pad from contamination, and prevent lotion on the pad from contaminating other objects. In a preferred embodiment, the user first removes the casing cap from the casing. Then, the user removes the handle from the casing. The user then opens the closable opening and squeezes the handle so that lotion exits the handle and is applied to the pad.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1998Date of Patent: August 28, 2001Inventors: John B. Patent number: 6227737Abstract: An applicator for applying a fluid to a surface includes an applicator tip element (5) connected to the end of a substantially rigid stem (1) by a part (3) capable of flexing resiliently as the applicator tip element is stroked across a surface. The application element is conveniently formed as a pad or a molded member of porous material e.g. foam, which can be attached in various ways, e.g. by of adhesive, heat welding or mechanical fixing, to the resiliently flexible connection part.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1998Date of Patent: May 8, 2001Assignee: The Gillette CompanyInventor: Mark Roger Lightfoot

Patent number: 6024507Abstract: An assembly (1) for packaging and applying a product, especially a cosmetic product, includes a reservoir (2) formed of a body (3) surmounted by a neck (12) having a free edge which delimits an opening (18) and a cap element (17) capable of removably capping the opening (18). The cap element (17) forms a member by which to grasp an applicator (22), secured to a first end (21) of a connecting member (20) whose second end (19) is secured to the cap element (17). When the cap element (17) is in the closed position, the applicator (22) lies inside the reservoir (2) so that it can withdraw some of the product. The neck (12) is of axis Y, distinct from the axis X of the body, and mounted so that it is free to rotate with respect to the said body (3).Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1998Date of Patent: February 15, 2000Assignee: L'OrealInventor: Gerard Joulia

Patent number: RE37931Abstract: Applicator including a reservoir containing a substance to be applied, a cap intended to close the reservoir and supporting a stopper including an applicator holder supporting a deformable element for applying the substance. The deformable element has a shape memory, i.e., can return to its original shape after being deformed, and a roughened surface. The reservoir holding the substance includes an end-piece having a base equipped with a seat including at least one capillary orifice against which the deformable element deforms when the reservoir is closed by the cap.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2001Date of Patent: December 10, 2002Assignee: L'OrealInventor: Jean-Louis H.
