The end of the sleeve closest to the cap includes a cam which operates in cooperation with a mating surface on the inner side of the cap to allow the actuator sleeve to be locked into a position which urges the applicator pads away from the shaft. The outer side of the cap is preferrably shaped to form a comfortable handle and includes a storage compartment for storage of keys, money and the like at the beach.

  • Patent number: 4850727
Abstract: A make-up applicator unit comprises a reservoir for liquid make-up product and an applicator carried by the cap of the reservoir. The seal between the applicator and the reservoir, when the cap is screwed home, is formed by a sealing member which is separate from the applicator and is free to rotate so that when the applicator rotates in contact with the sealing element during the final stages of screwing the cap onto the reservoir the applicator is not subjected to excessive torsional strain.

  • Patent number: 4780017
Abstract: A container assembly structured to store and selectively dispense and/or apply liquid material contents from a storage chamber in a manner which eliminates waste by enabling substantially the entire quantity of liquid material product to be removed from the storage chamber of the container regardless of viscosity of the product. The container incorporates resilient material side walls which may be disposed into a constricted position thereby forcing product within the storage chamber into contact with an applicator assembly for selective and/or precise dispensing and application of the product.

  • Patent number: 4752147
Abstract: A fluid applicator system includes a fluid containing jar, an applicator sponge attached to a lid, and a perforated plate for maintaining the sponge in a compressed state against the closed lid to regulate the amount of fluid which it can absorb. The sponge is compressed by inserting it into the jar so that it abuts the perforated plate while the lid simultaneously seals the jar. The extent of compression of the sponge, and thereby the amount of fluid which it can absorb, is regulated by adjusting the level of the perforated plate within the jar prior to exposing the fluid to the sponge.

  • Patent number: 4543743
Abstract: A portable herbicide applicator and method of destroying plants utilizing the same are provided that allow herbicide application in a safe, simple, and effective manner. The applicator includes a container having a closed end and an open end with a wiper positioned within the container. A fibrous exterior portion of an applicator structure is connected to a handle and is insertable into and withdrawable from the container, the wiping structure wiping excess liquid off of the fibrous covering when moved relative thereto. A cap is mounted by a strap to the container for closing the container open end while the herbicide applicator is being used, and a hook may be provided on the cap for hooking an opening on the handle and latching the applicator structure in place when it is positioned within the container. A strap on the container facilitates carrying with the open end facing upwardly.

  • Patent number: 4540366
Abstract: This imbiber is to be used, for instance, by dentists for imbibing with a treating liquid a cotton swab held by a cotton plier. The treating liquid is contained in a container having at its upper end a pumping assembly including a piston having an upright piston rod terminated at its top end with an enlarged head formed with a top recess, into which opens a bore formed in the piston and piston rod and communicating with the cylinder of the pump assembly. This cylinder is located within the neck of the container and has at its lower end an intake tube extending close to the bottom of the container. A check valve is mounted in the lower end of the cylinder and a biasing spring urges the piston rod to an upper limit position. By applying with a cotton plier a cotton slab within the recess and depressing the piston with the pliers, the cotton swab becomes soaked with the treating liquid, this being done in a single operation.

  • Patent number: 4522523
Abstract: An enamel or paint touch-up kit for paint repair, expecially on automobiles, is disclosed consisting of an enamel container with a screw cap, the base of a touch-up brush extending into the container being attached to this screw cap. Additionally, a rust-removing tool is provided which is mounted, with its base in opposition to the base of the brush, to the screw cap and projecting away from the screw cap in the opposite direction with respect to the brush, and being accommodated in a hollow space formed by a protective cap seated on the screw cap and enclosing the rust-removing tool on all sides. This arrangement has the advantage that the screw cap can still be used, as before, as a handle for operating the touch-up brush. For a rust-removing operation, it is merely necessary to remove the protective cap of the novel enamel touch-up stick so that the container then serves as a handle for manipulating the rust-removing tool with the same being fixedly joined to this handle.

Abstract: A method of applying a band of liquid adhesive in which the adhesive is spread by a resiliently flexible tapering applicator portion having an adhesive-guiding surface which extends to a narrow terminal spreading surface, the adhesive-guiding being concave about an axis which extends transversely of the spreading surface. The spreading surface is brought into contact with a workpiece, a pool of adhesive from an orifice in the adhesive-guiding surface is formed against the spreading surface, the applicator portion is caused to flex so that a portion of the adhesive-guiding surface extends along the workpiece surface, and relative movement between the workpiece and the applicator portion is brought about so that the adhesive is spread. An applicator head and an apparatus are also claimed.

  • Patent number: 4407311
Abstract: A make-up element comprises a bottle of make-up product receiving an applicator which is to be variably wiped to remove excess make-up product therefrom as it is withdrawn from the bottle. The wiping action is exerted by a wiper sleeve adjustable in cross-section by rotation of a manipulating sleeve, which may or may not be threaded to move axially of the bottle neck upon rotation. A peripheral sliding element between the wiper sleeve and the manipulating sleeve serves to avoid damage to the wiper sleeve as a result of repeated rotation of the sleeve with respect to a cross-section-adjusting formation externally thereof.

Abstract: A liquid applicator device and a method of utilization thereof to effect plant destruction. A first distinct container containing herbicide, with a rotary valve extending from one end thereof, is mounted on a second elongated container with the metering valve between the first and second containers. An elongated roller having a fibrous cover for receiving herbicide from the container and for ultimately transferring the herbicide to a plant is insertable into the second container, and has a handle extending from one end thereof outwardly of the second container. The opposite end of the roller is operatively connected to an actuator for the valve between the containers so that relative rotational movement between the roller and the containers results in metering of a predetermined amount of herbicide from the first container to the second container.
