A movement part has a longitudinal slot in which the substance carrier is guided by a peg, and the substance carrier can be moved between a retracted position and an extended position. The longitudinal slot has a retaining portion assigned to the extended position, the central longitudinal axis of which runs at an angle to a central longitudinal axis of a movement portion of the longitudinal slot. The central longitudinal axis of the retaining portion and the central longitudinal axis of the movement portion enclose an obtuse angle.

Abstract: A container for a stick product utilizes a novel inner body that has no gaps along its top perimeter. As a result, significant advantages in assembly and operation are realized. Containers according to the present invention may be useful for all types of stick products that are applied by drawing the product across a surface.

Abstract: A cosmetic container includes a cylinder, a lining and an elevator. The cylinder is made of metal and includes a slot. The lining is made of metal, includes a helical groove, and wraps the cylinder so that the helical groove intersects the slot. The elevator is made of metal, includes a boss, and is inserted in the cylinder so that the boss is movable in and along the slot and the helical groove to elevate the elevator relative to the cylinder.

Abstract: A refill lipstick cartridge that prevents or avoids operation of the dispensing mechanism for the lipstick until the cartridge has been secured into the lower case of a lipstick case. The refill lipstick cartridge has a locked or non-functioning configuration, in which the lipstick cannot be dispensed from the refill lipstick cartridge until the refill lipstick cartridge is installed into the lower case of the lipstick case, and an unlocked or functioning configuration when installed into the lipstick case, in which the dispensing mechanism for the lipstick can function to both extend from the lipstick bullet, and retract the lipstick bullet into, the lipstick case, typically manually under the control of the user of the lipstick product. A locking mechanism that employs either friction or mechanical locking elements is manipulated to position the refill lipstick cartridge between the locked configuration and the unlocked configuration.

A proximal end of the elevator rod can be received through an elevator aperture in the adapter member to enable a sliding of lugs on the elevator rod along a helical thread of the cam member. Frictional drag between the cam member and the adapter member can be produced by one or more drag protuberances therebetween. Where the drag protuberances project from the adapter member, a thin wall portion therein can enable a resilient deflection of the drag protuberances.

The second sleeve has a helical channel extending along an inner periphery of the sleeve for extending and retracting the cosmetic carrier upon rotation of the first sleeve within the second sleeve. A cylindrical skirt on a lower end of the second sleeve extends below the helical channel surrounding a portion of the inner first tubular sleeve. One or more protrusions project outwardly from the cylindrical sidewall of the first sleeve.

Abstract: A rod-shaped content draw-out container includes a draw-out mechanism of a multi-stage joint structure including a shell cylinder, a relay cylinder provided inside a rotation operating cylinder rotatably coupled to a rear end of the shell cylinder. The relay cylinder is inhibited from rotating relative to the rotation operating cylinder but is allowed to advance and retreat axially. A push-out rod member is screwed to the relay cylinder by reversely threaded screws and is inhibited from rotating relative to the shell cylinder but allowed to advance and retreat axially. To prevent the rotation operating cylinder from improvidently rotating and to allow a user to easily recognize limits of operation, first stoppers formed on the relay cylinder and the push-out rod member engage each other at a positional change from a position just before the draw-in end to the draw-in end.

The container comprises a substance holder with a radially protruding holder pin, an intermediate cylinder with an open end for exposing the substance and with an axially extending guiding slit, and an outer sleeve with an internal helical groove. The holder pin passes through the guiding slit and is received in the helical groove in such a way that a rotation of the outer sleeve causes the axial displacement of the substance holder. The holder has an axially movable bottom and is thereby capable of ejecting the substance from the holder to provide for its full use. The container has means for self-arresting the movable bottom against substantial back movement relative to the substance holder.

Abstract: A cosmetic dispenser having a decorative shell, and a cap which normally snap fittingly engages the upper portion of the body. Interiorly there is a spline tube having a pair of opposed vertical tracks terminating in an upper catch and a lower catch. A riser cup is provided with a plurality of circumferentially downwardly spaced legs which deflect outwardly to resiliently engage the interior portion of the spline tube. A relaxation taper at the lower portion of the spline tube receives the depending legs from the riser cup and thereby lets them expand to a relaxed condition in which condition they will retain their set. At the opposed portion of the motion, when the cup is near the top, provision is made for windows which are short vertical slots in the cup and in coordinated relationship with the helical track so that at the upper portion of its motion the helical cup legs rest either in the vertical track of the spline tube or in the windows.

The cosmetic container includes a cosmetic carrier and an inner sleeve. The cosmetic carrier includes a pair of outwardly extending radial protrusions and a pair of carrier lugs. The inner sleeve includes a pair of longitudinal channels for receiving the carrier lugs and a pair of longitudinal slots for cooperating with the radial protrusions. The radial protrusions are wider than the corresponding longitudinal slot and only a portion thereof is received within the longitudinal slot. Other portions frictionally engage resilient borders of the inner sleeve defining the longitudinal slot.

Abstract: A lipstick structure includes an elongated tubular body having a front open to receive therein a stick holder with a lipstick mounted thereon. A longitudinal slit is formed on the tubular body and extending from the front open end to a middle point of the tubular body along the length thereof and a longitudinal slot is also formed on the tubular body and extending from the terminated point of the slit toward the rear end of the tubular body, the slot having a width greater than that of said slit. An expanded hole is formed and connected between the slit and slot. The slot and hole are offset from the slit to define a step-like stop between the slit and the hole. A control tab is mounted to the stick holder by a support tab which is movable within the slit and the slot so as to allow the stick holder to be movable from the rear end of the tubular body to the middle point thereof to have a portion of the lipstick project out of the tubular body for service.

Abstract: "Lock" for this impel/repel lipstick container comprises a downward extension at the lower end of the slot in the inner body. The extension is adapted to receive the pomade cup lug and is partly defined by a margin portion facing in opposition to the direction in which the lug is moved when the cam is turned to raise the cup. When a user attempts to propel the pomade upward by turning the cam relative to the inner body, the cam track merely forces the lug against the margin portion of the extension. To unlock, the salesperson applies a tool upward into the base of the lipstick container to raise the pomade cup so that the lug moves upward out of the extension.

A cylindrical shell provided with an internal helical groove has the tubular element freely rotatable inside it, with the stubs of the cup engaging in the helical grooves of the shell. Soft friction between the cup and the tubular element is ensured by a tangential elastic deformation of at least one of the longitudinal edges of a slide during the passing of the stub whose width is slightly larger than the width of the slide.

Abstract: A cosmetic container for a cosmetic, such as lipstick, which permits the cosmetic to be extended and retracted for application and which permits a low swivel torque, which operates smoothly, and which substantially minimizes or prevents "push-back". The container includes a uniquely configured lug which cooperates with a helical channel of a tubular sleeve to prevent push-back which is defined as unwanted movement of the lipstick within the container caused by downward axial force which results when the lipstick is applied. According to one embodiment, the lug includes an end surface portion having a compound surface wherein one portion thereof is parallel to the longitudinal axis and another portion thereof is positioned at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis. The compound surface also includes a line of intersection defining the portions which is, itself, angularly positioned relative to a plane normal to the longitudinal axis.

Abstract: A cosmetic preparation dispenser permits filling of a dispenser cartridge and retraction thereof, but is subsequently inoperable until assembly with a master case. The cartridge includes a cam sleeve, innerbody and elevator cup. The locking of the cartridge is obtained by lower leftwardly extending track segments at the lower end of innerbody longitudinal track segments, which trap and retain the elevator cup when it is retracted after the cartridge is filled with a cosmetic stick. When the cartridge is assembled with the master base, a stem in the master base pushes against the elevator cup to urge it out of it locked position to permit the elevator cup to be freely movable along the axial path.

Abstract: A cosmetic preparation dispenser is provided that has a helical cam track with a horizontal step at its lower end and a longitudinal innerbody track that terminates adjacent the horizontal step. A cam follower lug of an elevator cup will track into and be trapped by and between the horizontal step and the lower end of the longitudinal track. This locks the innerbody to the cam sleeve to prevent longitudinal sliding of the innerbody relative to the cam sleeve when, e.g., a lipstick cover is removed in an assembled cosmetic container, which cover removal might leave an undesirable gap between the decorative shells surrounding the innerbody and cam sleeve.

Abstract: In the lipstick case having a lipstick mechanism, comprising a slotted tube (5), a tube (4) which rotatably surrounds the slotted tube (5) and exhibits an internal thread (15), and a lipstick holder (6) which is arranged so that it can move in the slotted tube (5), the lipstick holder (6) is provided with guide cams (13) which engage through the slots of the slotted tube (5) into the thread turns. Furthermore, the lipstick holder is provided with spring elements (8) which have cams (7) which are supported on the slotted tube, thereby forming rear-engagement lugs (21), and the slotted tube is provided with recesses (9) into which the cams (7) of the spring elements engage.

Abstract: A screw-type propel/repel lipstick has a stepped profile along one edge of the slot in the sleeve of a lipstick. The stepped edge is on the lower end of the spiral opening in the cam where the opening overlies the slot. Preferably, the cup lug has a point in its cross section pointing down toward the stepped side of the slot. When the pomade starts to backoff, the point of the lug catches on the stepped profile.

Abstract: A lipstick-type cosmetic case with inner and outer coaxial sleeves with respective axial and helical cam tracks receiving cam followers for reciprocating a cosmetic pomade support within the sleeves. The axial cam tracks in the inner sleeve have inner restricted sections with upper tapered end pockets for receiving the cam followers and restricting inward axial movement therefrom. The helical cam tracks in the outer sleeve have upwardly facing continuous helical cam edges on one edge thereof and, on the opposite edge thereof, two inwardly facing stepped helical edge sections and an intermediate inwardly facing locking edge section for locking the followers against outward axial movement from the pockets.

Abstract: An improved cosmetic preparation dispenser is provided which comprises a hollow body forming an elongated chamber for containing the preparation therein in a shape corresponding to the chamber. A holder member is slidably mounted inside the hollow body for holding one end of the preparation while being moved along a line of travel either in a first or second direction within the hollow body to respectively extend and retract the preparation through an opening at one end of the hollow body. Means are also provided spaced along the line of travel for lockingly detaining the holder member at at least two stations spaced along the line of travel, the lockingly detaining means being releasable under operator control to permit the holder member to be moved from station to station, whereby the preparation can be lockingly retained at predetermined stations along the line of travel.

Abstract: An applicator for dispensing metered amounts of medicaments in stick formulations is comprised of a hollow tube and a piston mounted to slidingly move within the tube. A finger operable base is rotatably mounted at one end of the tube and is mechanically linked by a screw member to the piston to urge the piston towards the other end of the tube. A depressible thumb piece is associated with the rotatable base. An extension or post is associated with the thumb piece to extend inward of the tube and to register with a race formed inside the tube. The race has a series of detents with which the extension may register upon rotation of the base. Registration between the extension and the detents signals certain increments of rotation or prevents further rotation of the base. The thumb piece is depressed inward to bring the extension out of registration with the detents.

Abstract: A lipstick container having an attractive noncircular form includes a unique operating mechanism for reciprocating a cup member adapted to hold a mass of lipstick. The operating mechanism includes a friction ring which is fitted on the outer body member whereby a constant swivel torque is required to opereate the mechanism through the length of its stroke. The friction ring creates a smoothly operating, luxurious feeling mechanism, limits relative axial movement or "shuck" between the inner and outer body members, and eliminates the need for a bottom pair of lock extension slots.

Abstract: A device for braking between two substantially coaxial parts mounted for rotation relative to one another comprises a casing connected for rotation with a first part and adapted to surround at least a portion of the second part, the casing having flexible friction surfaces driven by the casing and situated against the inside surface of the casing, these friction surfaces being adapted to rub permanently against the outside surface of the second part.

Abstract: The invention contemplates a cosmetic-container of the propel-repel variety wherein all parts are assembled and retained by interference fit and wherein metal-to-plastic interfaces characterize essentially all sliding engagements. The arrangement is such as to provide a luxury "feel" through controlled drag torque (resistance) to relative rotation of the parts. And provision is made to positively retain any retracted position of the pomade carrier, whatever the remaining useful extent of involved pomade.

Abstract: A nib holder for a fine molded nib in a writing instrument is disclosed. The nib holder has an internal passageway into which the nib may be inserted and held by an abrasive ring or by projections, the nib being held without substantial deformation thereof. The nib holder includes a screw threaded portion which cooperates with mating screw threads on the casing of the writing implement. The nib holder may be screwed into the casing until the end of the nib contacts a fixed ink conducting core. Therefore, as the nib holder is screwed into the casing, the nib is forced out of the passage in the holder for compensating for wear of the nib. A cooperating prong and detent on the casing and nib holder control the rotation of the nib holder with respect to the casing.
