Patent number: 6334729Abstract: At least a part of a cylindrical body (20) is rotatably and unslidably housed in a front cylinder (10). A beam (30) for retaining a stick type cosmetic material (4) on the upper end side is made unrotatable and slidable to the front cylinder (10) by a sliding mechanism and made feedable by a rotation together with the cylindrical body (20) by a feeding mechanism. The beam (30) is always urged downward by a return spring (6). It is arranged such that a lower end part of the cylindrical body (20) is at the same level as that of a lower end part of the front cylinder (10) and a synchronous engagement section (26) formed on an inner circumferential surface of a lower end part of the cylindrical body (20) is synchronously engaged with a synchronous engagement shaft 43 provided at a bottom (42) of a container body (2). Patent number: 5879093Abstract: A mechanism for feeding a core material such as a stick type cosmetic material includes an internal thread member having a spirally grooved inner surface and a push rod provided with a group of protrusions which engage with the spiral groove of the internal thread member; wherein the push rod is advanced or retracted by turning the internal thread member and the push rod engaged therewith relative to each other to feed the core material housed in a container to be slidably moved the push rod. Since the protrusions on the surface of the push rod can be of a simple shape, the push rod can be produced easily, and this effect manifests particularly in a comparison with the case where a thread must be formed on the push rod over the entire length thereof, requiring laborious thread machining or die making.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1997Date of Patent: March 9, 1999Assignees: Suzuno Kasei Co., Ltd, Kabushiki Kaisha Suzuno EnterpriseInventors: Atsushi Ohba, Yutaka Yamazaki

Patent number: 5868510Abstract: A product dispenser includes a receptacle having a cylindrical body that is open at one of its ends, a piston that is axially movable in translation in the body, and a drive screw passing through an orifice in the piston. The orifice is provided with a link suitable for transforming rotary motion of the screw into axial displacement of the piston. The screw is rotated by a drive member accessible to the user, and the link is radially deformable. The link is organized to deform radially in contact with the thread of the screw when the screw is forced to move axially relative to the link, thereby allowing relative axial movement between the screw and the link even if the screw is not rotated.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1997Date of Patent: February 9, 1999Assignee: L'OrealInventors: Franck Lacout, Vincent de Laforcade

Patent number: 5842802Abstract: The coating implement of the present invention dispenses solid material from an open-ended body for rubbing contact with a surface by ejecting the material from the open end of the body. The body has a manually operable collar secured near the upper open end thereof. The body has a screw and a screw-mounted elevator therein. The screw includes a knurled knob. The body is located in the tube with the knurled knob in frictional engagement with the inner lower end of the tube. Indicia may be placed on the outer surface of the body where it is protected by the tube, and the tube is transparent so that the indicia may be viewed therethrough. Rotation of the collar causes the body to rotate within the tube and eject the material from the body.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1992Date of Patent: December 1, 1998Assignee: Federal Package Network, Inc.Inventors: Frank J. Patent number: 5230577Abstract: An improved applicator for soft materials includes a cartridge section and a relatively rotatable body section, the soft material being contained within the cartridge section and a plunger being provided to advance the soft material. The improvement resides in providing an assembly within the applicator body to prevent the inadvertent separation of the cartridge section from the body section. In a preferred embodiment, this assembly comprises a clutch means between the rotatable body section and the plunger whereby rotation of the body is transmitted to the plunger to advance and retract the plunger and associated soft material, the clutch means being designed so as to disengage before the plunger is retracted to the point at which it would forcibly separate the cartridge from the body.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1992Date of Patent: July 27, 1993Assignee: Maybelline, Inc.Inventors: J. Patent number: 4917518Abstract: An automatic pencil includes a front housing and a rear housing. A lead-propelling unit and a control unit are positioned within the front and rear housings respectively. The control unit is retained on the propelling unit. When the rear housing is continuously rotated relative to the front housing in a certain direction, a lead rod intermittently moves forward to project from the pencil tip. The propelling unit has a first engagement element, while the control unit has a second engagement element. Each of the first and second engagement elements has several sprocket teeth provided annularly on an end surface thereof. After use, the rear housing may be rotated relative to the front housing in the opposite direction so that the barbed ends of the second engagement element pull the barbed ends to the first engagement element backward. A compression spring helps the first engagement element, and hence the lead rod projecting from the pencil tip, to move backward.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1988Date of Patent: April 17, 1990Inventor: Hann-Tzong Chern
