  • Patent number: 6758617
Abstract: A side knocking-type writing instrument has a barrel having a longitudinal axis, a front end, and a rear end. A sliding member is disposed in the barrel for undergoing forward and rearward sliding movement along the longitudinal axis of the barrel. The sliding member has a shoulder comprised of a generally L-shaped side wall having a first wall portion extending along the longitudinal axis and a second wall portion extending transversely to the longitudinal axis. A knocking member undergoes pivotal movement in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the barrel about a fulcrum point disposed at a rear portion of the knocking member. The knocking member has a pressing portion disposed at a front portion thereof. A linking pawl is disposed between the knocking member and the sliding member for undergoing pivotal movement therebetween and axial movement along the longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 6702495
Abstract: An orbital marking pencil includes a body assembly, a rotator assembly and a rotational support. The body assembly includes a plunger, a main spring and a support spring. A convoluted race is formed on an inner surface of the body assembly. The rotator assembly includes a rotator spring and at least two ball bearings. The rotator spring opens a collet that retains a piece of lead. The ball bearings are received in the convoluted race. The depression of the body assembly in a vertical movement actuates the ball bearings within the convoluted race, thereby rotating the lead in an orbital movement. The support spring provides resistance to return the rotational support to a starting position, the main spring provides resistance for and returns the rotator assembly to a starting position, and the rotator spring provides resistance for and returns the plunger to a starting position.

Abstract: A holder for marking material includes a housing and a collet which moves axially in the housing. The housing has a first side wall and a second side wall opposite the first side wall. Cavities having sloping surfaces are formed in the housing first side. The collet includes an arm having wedges formed on its outer surface and positioned to be received in the housing cavities. The collet is movable between an extended position in which the sloped surface of the housing cavities engage the collet arm wedges to urge the collet arm transversely towards the housing second wall to frictionally grip the marking material in the holder and a second position in which the wedge is received in the housing cavity such that no transverse force is applied to the collet arm, and the marking material can move freely relative to the holder.

In the case of two slits, the two slits are arranged circumferentially at less than substantially 180E intervals and approximately in parallel with an axial direction and a portion between these two slits forms an elastic piece. Because the elastic piece of the tip pipe tends to move inwardly so as to make a surface contact against the lead, the force holding the lead is increased.

  • Patent number: 4522522
Abstract: A pencil holder includes first and second holder members having coaxial longitudinal through bores which are sized for receiving a pencil. A converging neck is located at a lower portion of the first holder and a chuck arrangement positioned at the juncture between the first and second holder members for gripping the pencil and maintaining its longitudinal positioning within the bore. The pencil tip protrudes through an aperture in the lower end of the first holder. Use of the pencil holder allows a writer to comfortably use pencils beyond a point at which the pencil would normally be discarded.

  • Patent number: 4468146
Abstract: The crayon holder includes a hollow body telescoped with respect to a collet member having jaws at one end. The collet member at a location remote from the jaws is threaded to a cylindrical portion of the body. A sleeve is telescoped over each of said body and collet member. Cooperating structure is provided on the body and sleeve to facilitate rotation of the sleeve without moving the sleeve in a longitudinal direction. The sleeve has a tapered portion for camming said jaws inwardly. A key on the sleeve cooperates with a groove on said collet member for rotating the collet member and moving it longitudinally relative to the sleeve as the sleeve is rotated about its longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 4162080
Abstract: A drill chuck, specifically for use on a portable powered drill, for selectively and releasably engaging the shank of a drill bit. The chuck includes a support secured to the drive shaft of the drill, and an actuator which is axially movable relative to the support. A holder is disposed between the support and the actuator for grippingly engaging the drill bit. The holder includes an annular support ring movably positioned within the support and having a plurality of springlike arms which project radially inwardly and are disposed for gripping engagement with the drill bit. A first pair of diametrically opposed arms extend axially from one side of the support ring, and a further pair of arms project axially from the other side of the ring, the latter pair being angularly offset with respect to the first-mentioned pair.
