  • Patent number: 6026697
Abstract: The invention provides a drive nut bracket for attaching a drive nut to a driven component to move the driven component. The drive nut is moved by a rotating drive screw. The drive nut bracket provides rotational constraint and linear constraint of the drive nut. It has a nut engaging portion pivotally connected to the base. The nut engaging portion has at least one slide surface portion for sliding engagement with the nut so that the nut may slide relative to the nut engaging portion in a direction substantially perpendicular to the pivot axis. The pivot and the slide surface accommodate misalignments of the drive screw and the driven component. The nut engaging portion includes at least one drive force receiving surface portion facing generally along the axis of the drive screw to provide the linear constraint of the drive nut relative to the driven component.

  • Patent number: 5980147
Abstract: The screen wiper mechanism has a crank, a connecting rod, a pivot pin and an articulating device which couples the crank to the connecting rod. The structure has, in succession: a head which bears against an engagement surface that is formed, in facing relationship with the head, in a first lateral face of the connecting rod. A cylindrical first shank portion and a cylindrical second shank portion that is of smaller diameter than the first shank portion forms an extension to the first shank. The articulating device also has structure that secures the crank on the second shank portion of the pivot pin against relative axial movement and takes up axial clearance. This structure, moreover, is arranged to be compressed while fastening the structure together during assembly.

  • Patent number: 5979521
Abstract: An adjustment mechanism for adjusting the position of a surface relative to a first element includes a first arm having first and second members. One of the first and second members is pivotally mounted to the first element about a first axis. The other of the first and second members is pivotally mounted to a second element, having the surface thereon, about a second axis. The first member includes a first bore therein, and at least a portion of the second member is received by and is slidably movable within the first bore. A locking mechanism selectively restrains sliding movement of the second member within the first bore to thereby adjust the length of the first arm and vary the position of the surface relative to the first element.

Abstract: The present invention is a clip used in the construction of suspension grid ceilings that are either island ceilings or ceilings having floating edges. The clip provides a versatile means for attaching face trim, such as COMPASSO.TM. trim, to the ceiling edge created by the suspended grid beams. The clip mounting can be vertically adjusted so that the typical trim problems of gaps or inconsistencies between the face trim and the horizontal ceiling panels may be eliminated without resorting to traditional finishing procedures. The same clip may be used in several different mounting situations involving the grid beam arranged to the trim at angles ranging from parallel to orthogonal.

  • Patent number: 5911536
Abstract: A joint for deploying and locking a solar panel or a reflector has a fork which is pivotable through 180.degree. about a common pivot axis with a fixed bearing support. A disk mounted on the fixed bearing support has a sliding curve that terminates in a groove. A latching fork mounted rotatably on pivotable fork has a latching bolt and sliding roller which runs on the sliding curve when the pivotable fork deploys, and together with a latching bolt, engages the groove. A leg spring engages the latching bolt. The sliding curve has a shape such that during the first half of a deployment angle of the fork that is pivoted by the force of a coil spring, a decreasing portion of the coil spring moment is stored in leg spring. In the second half of the deployment angle, a moment 16 stored in leg spring 9 is again added increasingly to the movement, so that during deployment, an approximately constant corrected deployment moment is provided.

  • Patent number: 5895428
Abstract: An implant is provided which has an upper member which pivots and is locked to a lower member and engages adjacent vertebrae and have surfaces which are ceramic and will allow bone growth into such surfaces and thus bonding with the adjacent vertebra. The opposing and bearing surfaces of the upper and lower member are coated with ceramic zirconium for long wear. Since the upper and lower members are captured, the implant device herein cannot be forced out of place by spinal tension. Particularly for the lower spinal vertebrae, the option of securing the upper and lower members with screws is facilitated. A vertebral replacement system using components in common with the implant is used to make a spaced connection between two pivoting points and is used to replace badly damaged vertebrae where the load bearing portion of the vertebra will be insufficient to allow normal support.

  • Patent number: 5282460
Abstract: An exoskeletal robotic device supplements relative movement between biological skeletal members coupled at a biological joint of a wearer, and preferably forms complete sections of a skeleton to be worn by a human. First and second frame members for mechanical joints are attachable to the wearer adjacent the biological joint. The mechanical joints define a center of relative rotation of the frame members about at least two, and preferably three mutually perpendicular axes, the center of relative rotation of the frame members being displaced from the outer surfaces of the skeletal members to correspond in position with the center of the biological joint. Actuation devices in the form of hydraulic cylinders are coupled between the first and second frame members for rotating the frame members under power under control of a microprocessor which can execute stored sequences or apply power in the same direction as exerted by the wearer against pressure sensors coupled to the microprocessor.
