Publication number: 20130011184Abstract: A splice is described for jointing thermoplastic strips that comprise steel cords. In the splice a splice polymer is used that is a mixture of a co-polymer and a base polymer, wherein the co-polymer is a grafted co-polymer, a block co-polymer or a random co-polymer functionalised for enabling adhesion to the steel cords. Particular about the inventive splice is that the amount of co-polymer in the base polymer is such that in a test-till-break of a splice, part of the steel cords fracture in the test while the remaining cords are pulled out of the polymer without breaking. Surprisingly, a splice with such a failure behaviour results in a better overall splice strength than a splice wherein a too large amount of co-polymer is added. When too much co-polymer is added all steel cords break in the test which strangely enough leads to a lower overall strength of the splice.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 28, 2011Publication date: January 10, 2013Inventor: Anneleen De Smet

The connection body comprises a driving element in the region of the collar thereof, for the attachment of a pressure and rotation tool. A girder formed from the slender cone and penetrating from the upper plate into the lower plate, and a girder protruding from the lower plate along the inner surfaces thereof, form a friction welding region extending onto the slender cone.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2008Date of Patent: October 2, 2012Assignee: Ejot GmbH & Co. Publication number: 20120241216Abstract: Compression cold welding methods, joint structures, and hermetically sealed containment devices are provided. The method includes providing a first substrate having at least one first joint structure which comprises a first joining surface, which surface comprises a first metal; providing a second substrate having at least one second joint structure which comprises a second joining surface, which surface comprises a second metal; and compressing together the at least one first joint structure and the at least one second joint structure to locally deform and shear the joining surfaces at one or more interfaces in an amount effective to form a metal-to-metal bond between the first metal and second metal of the joining surfaces. Overlaps at the joining surfaces are effective to displace surface contaminants and facilitate intimate contact between the joining surfaces without heat input. Hermetically sealed devices can contain drug formulations, biosensors, or MEMS devices.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 4, 2012Publication date: September 27, 2012Applicant: MicroCHIPS, Inc.Inventors: Jonathan R. Publication number: 20120213574Abstract: In a fastening arrangement for the positionally correct fastening of a device to a structural part of a motor vehicle, the at least one screw means is arranged on a tolerance-compensating part, wherein the tolerance-compensating part is fixed to the structural part by means of a joining material which is selected from an adhesive or a plastic liquefied by ultrasonic welding, and wherein the tolerance-compensating part is adjusted in position relative to the structural part. A method for the positionally correct fastening of a device to the structural part of a motor vehicle makes use of a tolerance-compensating part which is joined to the structural part by making use of a joining process in which a joining material is used, the joining process being selected from the group consisting of: adhesive bonding with an adhesive as the joining material, ultrasonic welding with a plastic as the joining material.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2011Publication date: August 23, 2012Applicant: PROGRESS-WERK OBERKIRCH AGInventors: Hubert Graf, Tobias Kraus, Frank Griebenow, Michael Mueller, Hansjoerg Schmeider, Thorsten Seiler, Hans-Peter Thumbach, Jakob Willmann

Patent number: 8225479Abstract: A first and a second object (1 and 2) are joined with the aid of a joining element (8) including at least in the region of its distal and proximal ends (8.1 and 8.2) a thermoplastic material. Two blind holes (5 and 6) facing each other are provided in the two objects (1 and 2) and the joining element (8) is positioned in the blind holes such that its distal and proximal ends (8.1) are in contact with the bottom faces of the blind holes and such that there is a gap (9) between the two objects (1 and 2). This assembly is then positioned between a support (3) and a sonotrode (4). The sonotrode (4) and the support (3) are forced towards each other, while the sonotrode (4) is vibrated, thereby liquefying at least part of the material having thermoplastic properties, there, where the joining element ends (8.1 and 8.2) are pressed against the bottom faces of the holes (5 and 6) and allowing the liquefied material to infiltrate into pores of the hole surfaces or unevennesses or openings provided in the hole surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2011Date of Patent: July 24, 2012Assignee: Woodwelding AGInventors: Colin Clinch, Marcel Aeschlimann, Laurent Torriani, Elmar Mock

Publication number: 20120132160Abstract: A method of joining multiple powder metal components to form a powder metal component assembly using an adhesive is disclosed. By machining at least one of the powder metal components prior to the adhesive joining, otherwise difficult to machine features can be more easily machined for less cost and at higher production rates. Unlike high temperature joining techniques, the adhesive joins the powder metal components at room temperature. This room temperature adhesive joining eliminates the thermal distortions in pre-joined machined features common to high temperature joining techniques such as brazing or welding that bring these features out of specification during joining.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 5, 2009Publication date: May 31, 2012Inventors: Gerald Michael Malen, Timothy Costanzo, Ian W.
