Member Deformed In Situ Patents (Class 403/274)
  • Patent number: 4015908
Abstract: A multiple-piece crankshaft is produced by chamfering one end of each crank arm opening, and providing keyways in and parallel to the chamfered surfaces; each crankshaft and crank pin is provided with a shoulder and is positioned in a crank arm opening with the shoulder opposite the chamfer; the projecting ends of the shaft and pin are cold formed into the respective chamfer and keyways.

  • Patent number: 3999354
Abstract: This structural member is an elongated extruded part having a cross-sectional contour including a stitching leg adapted to be deformed together with the margin of an adjacent panel, so as to connect the member and the panel. The structural member disclosed is channel-shaped and has two stitching legs, one on either side of the channel. Each stitching leg cooperates with a wall of the channel to define a slot for receiving the margin of a panel. After the panel margin is inserted in the slot, the stitching leg and the panel are deformed together to connect the panel and the member. Two extruded structural members may be connected with two panels to form a box beam of hollow rectangular cross-section. Other polygonal cross-sections may be formed by connecting alternate extruded members and panels, with appropriate angles at their interconnections.

  • Patent number: 3973729
Abstract: A vent valve arrangement for a thermostatically operated valve construction that has a valve member for opening and closing a valve seat in response to temperature sensed by a temperature responsive device that is interconnected to the valve member to move the same relative to the valve seat whereby the vent valve arrangement permits fluid flow through the valve seat when the valve seat is closed, the vent valve arrangement having a one-piece valve seat member provided with a valve seat opening and a chamber for containing a movable valve member therein with that movable valve member opening and closing the valve seat opening.

  • Patent number: 3956815
Abstract: An improved tool is disclosed for joining the adjacent ends of pipes, conduits, and like tubular members through the use of explosively propelled swaging members. The tool includes a jacket assembly defining a closed chamber having a die at one end thereof and a die assembly which is received in the chamber. Both the die assembly and jacket assembly are substantially cylindrical to encompass end portions of the tubular members to be joined. The masses of the die assembly and of the jacket assembly are substantially equal so that, when the explosive propellant is ignited, they travel at substantially equal speeds in opposite directions with the die faces travelling towards one another to effect a swaging of a sleeve connector on the respective ends of the tubular members or bell configuration of one member onto a straight end of the adjacent member.
