  • Patent number: 8186903
Abstract: The invention is related to a fastener assembly of the kind used to secure a gas turbine engine rotor disc assembly on a shaft in a situation which otherwise would required the use of a trapped nut. It thereby removes a design constraint limiting bore diameter of the disc assembly to permit access to a securing nut on the shaft, and avoids the use of a trapped nut. One of the rotors hubs is adapted to be mounted on the shaft and the securing nut is engaged with a thread on the shaft to trap the hub. In the improvement of the invention the hub is provided with an axial keyway through which the securing nut is passed into the limited access space. Once the shaft is engaged with the hub the nut is then engaged with the thread on the shaft and tightened using a special tool extending through the centre of the shaft. The tool is withdrawn after use. The nut may be undone and retrieved in an opposite operation.

  • Patent number: 7866909
Abstract: The cable locking system is a two-part device that locks a cable-like strap or other flexible or rigid member with an enlarged end into place by using an opposing arrangement of keyhole-shaped apertures bored into two rigid parts. The cable locking system requires no extra hardware to secure the connection, and can be retrofitted to fit virtually any size support system in numerous applications. The cable locking system can be installed quickly and easily without a need for tools, extra labor, or supporting equipment. In the case of a suspension bridge, the suspension parts can be pre-manufactured and assembled, then quickly and easily connected to complete the structure. The cable locking system makes the construction of a suspension bridge or other hoisting device as well as many kinds of structures simple and straightforward, with fewer parts that can potentially fail. The cable locking system can also easily be disassembled.

  • Patent number: 7334959
Abstract: A fixing device has a lug strip (10). At least one end (12) of the lug strip (10) is bent to form a fixing loop (14). A fixing space is provided by two enclosing pieces (16) and receives a retainer (22, 24). The retainer (22, 24) has two opposing fixing pieces (26) for a unit with the both enclosing pieces (16) and is provided with a functional piece (28, 30). Both fixing pieces (26) are diametrically opposed to each other on the respective retainers (22, 24), and have fixing surfaces. The functional piece (28, 30) runs at least partly perpendicular to the common longitudinal axis of the fixing piece (26). Each fixing surface is provided with a convex curvature. A fixing device with few components, which can be easily finished to give a lug at the site of assembly without any additions is achieved. The convex curvature of the functional piece (28, 30) runs perpendicular to the common longitudinal axis of the fixing pieces (26) essentially along a semi-circle.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for integrating the steps of securing and aligning a ramp to the pallet. A pallet mounting bracket secures to a pallet and mates with a corresponding ramp mounting bracket secured to a ramp. A pallet mounting bracket includes a registration receptacle that receives a registration member secured to the ramp mounting bracket in order to position the ramp with respect to the pallet. A driving member secured to the pallet mounting bracket engages a corresponding engagement portion on the ramp mounting bracket as the ramp is lowered into place next to the pallet. The driving member urges the engagement portion toward the pallet thereby urging a fastener secured to the ramp mounting bracket into engagement with a locking portion secured to the pallet mounting bracket thereby locking the ramp into position in alignment with the pallet.

  • Patent number: 7246966
Abstract: A joint assembly comprises a hollow extrusion member of an asymmetrical hexagonal section and a flange casting comprising a base flange and several webs including a top web and upper side webs which have joint faces presented to corresponding joint areas on the outside of the extrusion while a bottom web and lower side webs have joint faces which are presented to corresponding joint areas on the inside of the extrusion. To assemble the joint assembly an adhesive is applied to the joint faces and the extrusion aligned with the flange casting but offset vertically. The extrusion is then moved longitudinally towards the flange casting to the full extent permitted by abutment of an extrusion end face with steps to bring the joint faces into overlapping alignment with the corresponding joint areas on the extrusion, there being a substantial clearance due to the vertical offset so that the adhesive on the joint faces does not contact the joint areas on the extrusion at this stage.
