  • Patent number: 4551117
Abstract: A torque transmitting connection between a driving shaft and the core of a reel has a barrel-shaped stub which is rigid and coaxial with the core and extends into a complementary socket of a female coupling element at the respective end of the shaft. The female coupling element has a lateral opening which communicates with the socket, and the stub has a lateral flat so that the thickness of the stub, as measured in a plane including the axis of the stub and extending at right angles to the plane of the flat, is approximately four-fifths of the diameter of the stub. The width of the opening slightly exceeds the width of the flat and the aforesaid thickness of the stub. This renders it possible to insert the stub into or to withdraw the stub from the socket by placing the flat into a plane which is normal to the plane of the opening and by thereupon causing the stub to pass through the opening.

A spring-loaded finger member having a flange portion is pivotally housed in a longitudinal cavity in one of the core members. A head member is connected to the other core member by an extension member. The first-mentioned core member has a slot which terminates in a radial bore adjacent the longitudinal cavity for receiving the extension member and the head member.

Abstract: A probe-type thermostat is disclosed in which the probe is mounted for swiveling movement in a manner in which the thermostat calibration is not adversely affected. The probe includes a tube mounted on the thermostat base for swiveling movement about a first center and a rod connected to the thermostat operator or movable member for swiveling movement about a second center. The base and the movable member are each formed with spherical seats which are opened through lateral openings to an edge so that the probe assembly can be moved along the lateral openings to the assembled position.

  • Patent number: 4199210
Abstract: Method and apparatus for effecting perforation of a well casing with a casing gun while maintaining pressure in the well bore at a lower level than the pressure in the surrounding reservoir at the point of perforation. Before production tubing is run into the well, the casing gun is deposited in the bore below the desired production level. After the tubing is installed, borehole pressure is reduced to the desired level by swabbing the tubing and an automatic coupling and decoupling pickup tool is lowered on a wireline through the tubing and attached, mechanically and electrically, to the casing gun. The casing gun is then raised to the production level, as measured by locating the casing collars. When the gun is properly located, it is activated through an electrical cable carried along with the wireline. The casing gun perforates the well casing and surrounding formation, and is then decoupled from the wireline to be left in the well.

  • Patent number: 4165944
Abstract: In connection means comprising a hook projecting from one structure member and shaped for engagement with an elongated hole having a portion of downwardly tapered shape in another structure member, the hook is complemented by a boss which projects from the same face of the said one member, but spaced from the hook in the vertical direction, and which engages in a said hole in the other member. In a preferred embodiment, the boss is of a shape, for example a truncated pyramid with a trapezium base, engageable by its sides with the sides of the same hole with which the hook is engaged. The hook and boss are integral with the said one member, the boss being disposed closely above the hook from which it is separated by a transverse web. The sides of the boss are undercut. A spring-loaded locking device may be provided in conjunction with the boss.

  • Patent number: 4161375
Abstract: A connector for tubes of square cross-section comprises an elongated hollow metallic member of such size and shape in external cross-section as to be insertable within an end length of a tube for connection therewith. The member has at least two external longitudinal surfaces of minor width on opposite sides thereof. Spaced integral transverse teeth are provided on at least one of the longitudinal surfaces, the transverse distance between the surface of the teeth and the opposite longitudinal surface being greater than an internal transverse dimension of a tube to be connected to the member. Relative rotation between a tube and a member inserted therein causes the teeth to bite into an internal surface of the tube and thus establish secure connection. The connector may have teeth on both opposite longitudinal surfaces of minor width, and there may be a second pair of toothed longitudinal surfaces of minor width in quadrature relation with the first pair.

  • Patent number: 4155020
Abstract: A snap-fit fastening system for use in attaching a member to an electric motor utilizes stator through-bolts with specially formed heads and the member includes a plurality of slots formed in a pattern similar to the pattern in which the through-bolt holes of the stator laminates are arranged, but with the slots extending radially relative to the central axis of the stator and being offset laterally relative to the associated holes. An annular flange integrally formed with each bolt intermediate its ends seats on the top laminate to confine deflection of the upper end of the bolt to movement in a generally radial direction. Bullet-shaped extensions integrally formed with the upper ends of the bolts telescoped into the slots so a lip formed in each extension snap-fits the member onto the bolts, the lips overlapping the edges of the slots to lock the member on the through-bolts.
