  • Patent number: 6872026
Abstract: A handle connector for securing the head of a cleaning tool to its handle is formed as a unitary integral body, preferably of die-cast construction. The connector has two distal ends. At one end, there is an opening for receiving a handle. The other end of the connector extends outwardly and is configured to mate with the head of a broom, mop, or similar manual tool. The body of the connector includes a floating web comprising a substantially flat section and laterally flanking slots. A bolt and wing nut are provided for joining the handle to the connector. As the wing nut is manually tightened against the connector, it applies a compressive force against the flat section of web, which flexes inward in relation to the handle, ultimately contacting the outside surface of the handle. Continued manual tightening ensures for a tight fit between handle and connector and rigidly secures the joint between these tool components.

Abstract: A cotter is used for locking or latching tubes or extensions together, and includes a shank having a lower end, a handle attached to top of the shank, a ferrule slidably attached onto the shank and arranged between the handle and the lower end of the shank and having a portion applied with an indicating layer. A spring may bias the ferrule toward the handle, to have the handle to selectively shield the indicating layer of the ferrule, and to indicate whether the ferrule has been suitably biased toward the handle or not, and to indicate whether the tubes and the extensions have been safely locked or latched together or not.

  • Patent number: 6851886
Abstract: A knee joint assembly for an agricultural implement or a vehicle includes a relatively short knee casting with an apertured end of rectangular cross section which is inserted in a mating steel knee tube. The apertures in the casting end align with beveled apertures in the side walls of the knee tube. Steel pins of length approximately equal to the spacing of the side walls are pressed into the casting through the beveled apertures. Groove welds then secure the steel pins to the knee tube. The casting is relatively small and does not require any welding. Inexpensive ductile iron and common steel tubes can be used for most or all of the assemblies on a machine. The apertured end of the casting includes concave walls to accommodate knee tube concavity and weld flash on the inside of the knee tube.

Abstract: A recreational equipment rack system, which includes an equipment rack configured for exterior engagement on a vehicle. The equipment rack including a rack tongue configured to be inserted into and secured within a hitch receiver provided on the vehicle. A fastening mechanism configured to tightly secure the rack tongue to the hitch receiver. The fastening mechanism includes a bolt having a bolt head and a bolt post extending from the head for extending through transverse holes in the hitch receiver. The bolt post includes a threaded length and an unthreaded length. A nut assembly including a nut configured to engage the threaded length of the bolt enables selective clamping and releasing of the rack tongue with the hitch receiver. The bolt post has a removable post lock on its distal end to prevent removal of the rack from the vehicle without a security key or combination code.

  • Patent number: 6669400
Abstract: In a system for connecting two tubes (11, 12), the end (13) of the first tube (11) is telescopically received in the end (14) of the second tube (12). A hole (15) in the first tube (11) is aligned with a hole (17) in the second tube (12) while at the same time smaller holes (16, 18) in the tubes (11, 12) are aligned with each other. A fastener assembly (20) which includes a fastener having a head (21) and a threaded shaft (22) with an enlarged sleeve (23) positioned therebetween, is passed through the holes (15, 17). The threaded shaft (22) can pass through the smaller holes (16, 18), but the sleeve (23) is larger than the holes (16, 18) and cannot pass therethrough. When a nut (25) is tightened on the threaded shaft (22) a shoulder (24) formed by the sleeve (23) bears against the tube (11) to thereby connect the tubes (11, 12).

  • Patent number: 6547221
Abstract: A knock-down grind rail for skateboards and rollerblades is composed of at least two tubes held in axial alignment by a tubular insert inserted into opposing ends of the tubes. The tubes are clamped together end to end by a special, generally U-shaped clip having arms which are bent toward one another to form elbows. The free ends of the clip are inserted through holes present in the tubes adjacent the opposing ends thereof, the spacing of the hole being comparable to the spacing of those arm ends. As the clip arms are pushed into the tubes up to the elbows, the arms are sprung apart thereby exerting a clamping force on the tubes. Suitable supports are provided to support the tube above the ground or other support surface.

Abstract: An anti-theft securing device for securing a removable body part, such as a viewing unit, to a microscope stand is disclosed. The device is intended to replace a common thumbscrew used to fix location of a removable body part in a corresponding guide of the microscope stand, and comprises a housing threaded into a tapped hole in the stand for carrying a plunger and a driver both movable within an axial passageway in the housing. The driver is threadably adjustable by hand between driving and non-driving positions with respect to the plunger, and the plunger has a limited range of motion so that it may retract enough to allow the removable body part to be adjusted within the guide but not enough to allow the body part to be removed from the guide when the driver is in a non-driving position. The housing is tightened onto the microscope body by a tool such as a wrench, and the driver is held captive by a snap ring fitting within an internal groove near a trailing end of the housing.
