    Abstract: A technique is disclosed for removably coupling a shaft and hub to one another. The hub includes a pair of tapered regions near ends of its inner peripheral surface. The shaft may be tapered in a region designed to contact one of the tapered surfaces, or a tapered bushing arrangement may be used on the same end. On an opposite end, a tapered bushing is inserted between the shaft and the hub, and interfaces with the tapered portion of the hub to draw the shaft into tight engagement with the hub, with the bushing wedged between, during assembly. A retaining plate abuts a retaining ring, within the bushing, and a fastener through the retaining plate draws the hub and shaft tightly together during assembly. The retaining plate may receive removal fasteners which urge disengagement of the tapered bushing and shaft for easy and controlled disassembly of the hub and shaft from one another for servicing.

In one embodiment, the connector member has a dome surface and a four sided boss projecting from the flange. In another embodiment, the connector member has a projecting annular collar having peripherally spaced threaded holes. The base member and connector member are adapted to be machined from solid titanium bar stock.

The connector apparatus includes two parallel bars upon which an excavator coupler clamps. One of the bars is fixed in position to risers extending from a connector base. Each end of the other bar is attached to a point off center of a circular plate so that as the plate is rotated, the bar moves laterally relative to the bar axis. The plates are rotatably positioned in holes in the risers, and captivating side plates are welded to the risers for covering a portion of each plate, securing the plates from movement parallel to its axis but allowing the plate to rotate. Holes in the circular plates and side plates are provided, and a bolt is placed through each of the side plates and circular plates for securing each circular plate in a fixed position.

A bolt and pin combination is employed for providing a high security connection of the fitting and upper housing to the stanchion. Passages are provided so that rainwater and the like is directed outside of the housing and stanchion and does not accumulate within the meter housing.

    Abstract: This invention relates to apparatus used in supporting safety rails and discloses a system in which a safety rail post support and security device is used in pairs or greater multiples to hold pieces of a safety rail at the edge of an elevated surface and is speedily attached to or detached from the three commonly found roof edge structures, that is, roofs that are flat right up to the edge, roofs that have a very low ledge or flashing around the perimeter, and roofs that have a parapet along the edge. Previous systems rely on cantilever weights positioned well in from the edge of the roof, interfering with the work to be done there. The post support and security device has a junction piece comprising four intersecting extruded stabilizer bars perpendicular to each other in one plane and a fifth bar protruding from that plane at ninety degrees. An upright post fits into one of the bars after the junction piece is bolted to a roof or to a wall abutting the edge of a roof, or is clamped to a parapet.

    Abstract: A shaft-carried speed reducer is provided having an adaptable mounting arrangement. The hub of the speed reducer is configured having a substantially cylindrical axial bore. At least one annular groove may be defined in the axial bore to receive a snap ring when desired. A removable adapter having a tapered interior surface may then be situated in the hub bore to abut the snap ring. As an alternative to such a snap ring, an annular flange may be provided on the removable adapter to engage an end face of the hub. A tapered sleeve member engages the tapered interior surface defined on the removable adapter to effect securement of the hub to the shaft. If a single adapter is used, it may be inserted from either side of the hub in some configurations. Further, some configurations permit a pair of adapters and corresponding sleeve members to be used. The adapter and snap ring, if any, may be removed when the hub is to be secured to a screw conveyor drive shaft or the like.

The fingers are able to disengage from the groove under spring action and thus a sufficient applied moment will cause disengagement. Disengagement does not cause anything to break. Assembly, or reassembly, of the coupler may be performed without extra parts or tools. In several of the embodiments, the decoupling moment may be manually adjusted using less moment than the resultant decoupling moment. The decoupling moment is essentially independent of azimuth. The coupler is particularly suited to being used with rural type mailboxes, and warehouse buffers and supports.

    Abstract: A toy construction set is described having construction modules with male connectors and female connectors on selected ends thereof. Each female connector comprises a generally square socket formed by a pair of projecting opposed L-shaped fins with one leg of each L-shaped fin being no more than one half the length of the other leg thereby providing gaps on opposite sides of a module. The fins also have grooves on inside faces thereof adapted to receive and hold in a snap fit the projecting shoulder of a male connector. With this arrangement, the modules can be simply snapped together while at the same time being rotatable relative to each other. This rotatable feature adds a new dimension to the constructions and greatly increases play value. The design of the female connector socket also simplifies the moulding of the modules because there are no undercuts.
