Patent number: 5667333Abstract: A shaft-carried speed reducer is provided having an adaptable mounting arrangement. The hub of the speed reducer is configured having a substantially cylindrical axial bore. At least one annular groove may be defined in the axial bore to receive a snap ring when desired. A removable adapter having a tapered interior surface may then be situated in the hub bore to abut the snap ring. As an alternative to such a snap ring, an annular flange may be provided on the removable adapter to engage an end face of the hub. A tapered sleeve member engages the tapered interior surface defined on the removable adapter to effect securement of the hub to the shaft. If a single adapter is used, it may be inserted from either side of the hub in some configurations. Further, some configurations permit a pair of adapters and corresponding sleeve members to be used. The adapter and snap ring, if any, may be removed when the hub is to be secured to a screw conveyor drive shaft or the like.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1995Date of Patent: September 16, 1997Assignee: Reliance Electric Industrial CompanyInventor: Allyn E. Patent number: 5655740Abstract: A sturdy, easily constructed shelving support system for homes, stores and offices. The system uses shelf hangers and wall brackets, employing a novel, push-fit interlocking connector. The shelf hanger is fabricated as a rigid wire member, bent into a V-shape and connected at its ends to a right angled upright member by the push-fit connector locked into a square opening formed In the upright. The lower leg of the shelf hanger is suspended by the support leg, with its end portion flush against the upright wall, so that It does not rotate, to provide a stable support for a shelf end. The push-fit connectors are easily locked into the openings In the upright member, and may be quickly removed and re-positioned, enabling quick and easy construction of an entire shelving system within minutes, or easy alteration of its layout. A feature of the invention is that in addition to its support function, the support leg acts as a shelf book-end.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1996Date of Patent: August 12, 1997Inventor: Abraham M. Patent number: 5634733Abstract: The coupler has, in several embodiments, a compliant-link having flexible or pivoted fingers that engage a groove in the inside of a lower link in at least three places. The groove appears much like a bearing race. The compliant-link is retained inside of an upper sleeve that is attached to an upward-extending post. The lower (engaging) link is attached to a downward-extending post. The fingers are able to disengage from the groove under spring action and thus a sufficient applied moment will cause disengagement. Disengagement does not cause anything to break. Assembly, or reassembly, of the coupler may be performed without extra parts or tools. In several of the embodiments, the decoupling moment may be manually adjusted using less moment than the resultant decoupling moment. The decoupling moment is essentially independent of azimuth. The coupler is particularly suited to being used with rural type mailboxes, and warehouse buffers and supports.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1996Date of Patent: June 3, 1997Inventor: Mark Sperduti

Patent number: 5622378Abstract: A shim and method for using the same for adjusting camber and/or toe of a wheel assembly wherein first and second tapered annular shims are coupled together to permit relative rotation therebetween and each of the first and second tapered annular shims have visible indicia thereon. A chart is consulted to obtain an indicium on the first tapered annular shim that is to be aligned with an indicium on the second tapered annular shim so that the first and second tapered annular shims may be rotated to align the indicium on each shim so that the aligned indicia may be placed in the wheel assembly at a reference point on the wheel assembly to make the required camber and/or toe adjustments.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1993Date of Patent: April 22, 1997Assignee: Specialty Products CompanyInventors: Richard D. Patent number: 5538097Abstract: A rearwardly pivotable hood for enclosing a tractor engine is disclosed wherein a hinge member pivotally mounts the hood to the tractor chassis. The hinge member includes an upper hinge portion movably supported on a lower hinge portion, which is fixed to the chassis of the tractor. The upper hinge portion carries a generally transverse and horizontally extending hinge axis which is connected to the hood to allow a rearwardly pivotable movement thereof. An adjustment mechanism to provide a side-to-side movement of the hood includes a centrally positioned vertical pivot pin interconnecting the upper and lower hinge portions to define an axis of rotation about which the upper hinge portion is movable into a selected orientation relative to the lower hinge portion. A pair of bolts passing through slotted openings serve to clamp the upper and lower hinge portions together.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1995Date of Patent: July 23, 1996Assignee: New Holland North America, Inc.Inventors: David B. Patent number: 5518434Abstract: A toy construction set is described having construction modules with male connectors and female connectors on selected ends thereof. Each male connector comprises a projecting pin of generally rounded cross-section with an outwardly projecting shoulder adjacent the outer end thereof. Each female connector comprises a generally square socket formed by a pair of projecting opposed L-shaped fins with one leg of each L-shaped fin being no more than one half the length of the other leg thereby providing gaps on opposite sides of a module. The fins also have grooves on inside faces thereof adapted to receive and hold in a snap fit the projecting shoulder of a male connector. With this arrangement, the modules can be simply snapped together while at the same time being rotatable relative to each other. This rotatable feature adds a new dimension to the constructions and greatly increases play value. The design of the female connector socket also simplifies the moulding of the modules because there are no undercuts.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1994Date of Patent: May 21, 1996Inventor: James T.
