  • Patent number: 7896575
Abstract: A ramming device for compacting soil includes an upper mass and a lower mass. The lower mass is driven linearly back and forth with respect to the upper mass to compact material therebelow. An engine drives the lower mass and is supported by the upper mass. A muffler is fluidly connected to the engine and is contoured such that a majority of the muffler is positioned inboard of a footprint of a side of the ramming device. Preferably, the muffler has a shape that substantially matches a shape of the upper mass adjacent to the muffler thereby further reducing the distance that the muffler extends beyond a footprint of a sidewall of the device.

Abstract: A vibrating plate comprises a vibration generator device, which can be controlled in such a manner that the direction of the action of force can be set at a number of locations, particularly in more than two locations. In addition, an advance adjusting device is provided for controlling the vibration generator device whereby the direction of the action of force is set in a position in which a maximum possible advance of the vibrating plate is reached. The direction of the action of force can be changed according to a change in the surroundings of the vibrating plate, particularly to the slope and/or the hardness of a subsoil to be compacted by a soil contact plate. Alternatively, the direction of the action of force can be changed according to the wishes of the operator.

  • Patent number: 7753621
Abstract: The invention relates to a vibrating plate for ground compaction, said plate comprising a remote control device for controlling at least one forward or rear journey by the excitation of an oscillation device. The remote control device comprises an emitter unit, which can be displaced independently of the remaining vibrating plate and which can be detachably fixed to a draw bar. In a remote control mode, the emitter unit is held by the user and displaced independently of the vibration plate. In a draw bar mode, the emitter unit is placed on one end of the draw bar, so that the user can guide the vibrating plate by the pulling and pushing of robust control handles on the emitter unit. The latter can have at least one control handle, which can be used not only to input control commands for controlling the oscillation device, but can also be held by the user to manually guide the vibrating plate.

  • Patent number: 7740416
Abstract: A hand or mechanically powered tamper tool which has a removeable, replaceable, tool head assembly. The tool head assembly is a separable component from the upper section of the tamper tool which consists of the mounting plate and its attached tamper handle. The tool head assembly has a rubber or similarly resilient material pad bonded to the underside of a backing plate. Connection elements, such as bolts, are permanently secured between the pad and the backing plate. The bolts extend through and are upstanding from the backing plate. The bolts are configured to then extend through openings in the tamper mounting plate, where nuts are used to secure the tool head assembly to the mounting plate. The tool head assembly is thus removeable from the mounting plate and its handle or supporting element and allows for the simple and ready replacement of a used and worn tool head assembly with a new tool head assembly.

  • Patent number: 7491014
Abstract: The invention relates to a soil compacting system which comprises a travelling and steerable soil compacting device and a control device. The control device is provided with an area definition device which allows a user to establish an area to be compacted and the area boundaries. A position detecting device detects the actual position of the soil compacting device. A traveler changes the direction of travel of the soil compacting device by presetting a standard value for a travelling movement of the soil compacting device in such manner that the soil compacting device does not travel past the respective area boundary but continues its travel within the area. A path planning device may be provided for fixing a presetting for a travel way which makes sure that the soil compacting device, when keeping to the preset travel way, travels at least once completely across the area to be compacted.

  • Patent number: 7484912
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for consolidating concrete test samples include a tubular tamping rod with a reference disc slidably mounted thereon. When performing a quality control test, a worker pours a concrete specimen into a test container. The tamping rod is positioned adjacent to the container with its lower end at a maximum acceptable submersion depth relative to the specimen. The reference disc is then positioned to engage the upper edge of the container when the lower end of the rod is at the maximum acceptable submersion depth. When the worker reciprocates the tamping rod within the specimen, engagement of the reference disc with the upper edge of the container indicates that the lower end of the rod has reached the maximum acceptable submersion depth.
