Abstract: Example systems and methods are disclosed for implementing vehicle operation limits to prevent vehicle load failure during vehicle teleoperation. The method may include receiving sensor data from sensors on a vehicle that carries a load. The vehicle may be controlled by a remote control system. The load weight and dimensions may be determined based on the sensor data. In order to prevent a vehicle load failure, a forward velocity limit and an angular velocity limit may be calculated. Vehicle load failures may include the vehicle tipping over, the load tipping over, the load sliding off of the vehicle, or collisions. The vehicle carrying the load may be restricted from exceeding the forward velocity limit and/or the angular velocity limit during vehicle operation. • Patent number: 8696237
Abstract: A road paver with a movable screed and with a layer thickness measuring device, which includes at least two sensors. The sensors are formed to carry out a distance measurement to the paving plane at intervals to determine a distance between the sensor and a point on the surface of the plane, said point being registered by the sensor. One of the two sensors defines a coordinate system. The layer thickness measuring device is formed to add as vectors the distance to the plane measured by the sensor that defines the coordinate system and a movement, relative to the plane and resulting from the driving of the road paver, of the coordinate system that is defined by the one sensor. In this way, a first vector can be determined which, together with a second vector, is used by the measuring device for determining the layer thickness of the laying material.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for controlling material feed for asphalt pavers. The material feed system includes a screed, feeder conveyor and a spreader auger. A sensor measures a material volume and transmits this information to an electronic control module (ECM). This information may be used as the target material volume, which the ECM may use to calculate a corresponding conveyor speed and auger speed. The sensor monitors the material volume as paving commences, and the ECM maintains the initial calibrated target size by adjusting the auger and conveyor rotational speeds.

  • Patent number: 8371769
Abstract: A control and a method of control for a machine that applies a material to a subgrade at a work site and pulls a floating screed, having a screed plate, over the top surface of the material behind the machine is useful in paving with asphalt material. The floating screed is attached to the machine by a tow arm at a tow point on said tow arm. The vertical height of the tow point is controlled by an hydraulic cylinder on said machine in response to a valve control signal applied to an hydraulic valve by a valve control drive. The screed determines the thickness of the material on the subgrade and is manipulated by adjusting the height of the tow point. A first sensor is mounted on the floating screed for sensing three-dimensional position. A second sensor for senses the pitch of said screed. A processor circuit is responsive to the first and second sensors for determining the height of the trailing edge of the screed plate and the movement of the screed over the top surface of the material.
