Patent number: 11352760Abstract: A masonry block has a front, a back, a top surface, a bottom surface, a first side and a second side. The front has a front-top edge and a front-bottom edge. A number of steps (e.g. two steps) that rise above the top surface are setback from the front-top edge by a first setback distance. An equal number of notches are formed/cut into the bottom surface. A first notch of the notches is setback from the front-bottom edge by a second setback distance. When stacked to form a wall, the steps of a lower masonry block interface with the notches of a next higher masonry block and the first setback distance is greater than the second setback distance resulting in an overall setback as defined by a difference between the first setback distance minus the second setback distance.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2020Date of Patent: June 7, 2022Assignee: Shoreloc Design Group, Inc.Inventor: Jason Stell

Patent number: 8596928Abstract: A retaining wall or steeply faced slope is disclosed having a naturally green facade. The wall or slope is made of blocks of compacted earth, each having a face reinforced with wire mesh and covered with vegetation such as native grasses. The blocks may be formed onsite, saving transportation costs and other waste, using native soils. The mesh may extend beyond other faces of each block to provide handles and geogrid anchoring. A press is disclosed to form the blocks by compacting soil mixed with cement, the press including hydraulic rams or screw jacks that create immense pressures and having wedge shaped sides that relieve lateral confining pressure when the block is extracted.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2010Date of Patent: December 3, 2013Inventor: Henry G Justiniano

Patent number: 8568057Abstract: A traffic barrier including a precast base having a wall port capable of receiving an existing earth wall therein, a first row of rebar coupled to the base and extending outwardly away therefrom, and a second row of rebar coupled to the base and extending outwardly away therefrom. A moment slab is connected to the first and second rows of rebar in such a manner that a proximal end of the moment slab directly abuts flush against an anterior side of the base. A connects adjacent ones of the bases at an end-to-end pattern.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2011Date of Patent: October 29, 2013Inventor: Joseph E. Rodriguez

Patent number: 8562260Abstract: A concrete block and a concrete block set for building a segmental retaining wall. Each block of the block set comprises front and back faces connected together by side walls extending between a top surface and a bottom surface. The shapes of the side walls create a lateral interlock system between adjacent blocks, and one of the side walls is preferably inwardly bevelled. Each block of the block set also comprises a longitudinal slot on the bottom surface. The blocks forming a first subset of the block set are provided with a vertical connector centered between said front and back faces, on the top surface, and sized to fit into the longitudinal slot located on the bottom surface of a block positioned immediately above in a segmental retaining wall. The blocks forming a second subset are not provided with such a vertical connector.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2012Date of Patent: October 22, 2013Inventors: Tyler Matys, Angelo Risi

Patent number: 8496411Abstract: A two-stage MSE system for securing a facing to an earthen formation is disclosed. The system includes a wire grid laterally-offset from the facing and a formation anchor coupled to the wire grid. The formation anchor includes a face plate, a wave plate, and an eyebolt extensible through the face plate and wave plate to secure the plates on opposing sides of the wire grid. The wave plate has transverse protrusions that align with and seat adjacent vertical wires of the facing. A facing anchor is coupled to the facing and a turnbuckle assembly secures the facing to the wire grid by coupling to the facing anchor and the formation anchor. A soil reinforcing element may also be attached to the formation anchor.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2011Date of Patent: July 30, 2013Assignee: T & B Structural Systems LLCInventor: Thomas P. Taylor

Patent number: 8490359Abstract: An assembly of blocks for use in yard and garden environments includes a plurality of discrete blocks each having a body portion and a joining portion, the joining portion having a plurality of angled teeth. The teeth of a first one of the plurality of blocks interlock with the teeth of a second one of the plurality of blocks such that the first and second blocks are connected together and arranged perpendicular relative to one another so that the plurality of blocks has an L-shaped configuration.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 2011Date of Patent: July 23, 2013Inventors: Joan M. Patent number: 8434971Abstract: Single and multiple retaining wall blocks and block systems in which the blocks are provided with a face connection system which includes at least one front lip extending from a top surface of the block and a bottom channel formed into a front face and bottom surface of the block. The front lips have a length which is equal to the width of the blocks.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2012Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Assignee: Contech Technologies, Inc.Inventors: William B. Patent number: 8430603Abstract: A retaining wall block can include a top surface and opposing bottom surface, a front surface and opposing rear surface, and first and second opposing side surfaces. A projection can extend downwardly from the bottom surface and can include a forwardly facing indexing surface oriented generally parallel with the front surface of the block. The indexing surface can be configured to engage a rearwardly facing surface of a block in a lower course of blocks. The block can also include a pair of spaced apart key slots defined in the rear surface. Each key slot can include an enlarged interlocking portion and a throat portion extending from the interlocking portion to the rear surface. An assembly can be created whereby a pair of correspondingly shaped keys of an elongate barrier member are engaged with key slots of block so as to inhibit rearward horizontal displacement of the keys within the key slots.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2010Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignee: Mortarless Technologies, LLCInventor: Brian A Price

Patent number: 8413399Abstract: A block combinable with other similar blocks to form a wall comprises a front surface; a top surface including a plurality of bosses, two or more of which are located adjacent each other in a direction along the front surface; and a bottom surface including a groove that has a floor. Each of the two or more bosses of the top surface includes a summit, and the summit of each define a plane. When the block is placed on another similar block such that the bottom surface of the block and a top surface of the other similar block oppose each other to form an interface region, the groove holds two or more bosses of the other similar block that are included in the other similar block's top surface, and the floor does not intersect the plane defined by the two or more bosses of the other similar block.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2010Date of Patent: April 9, 2013Inventor: Michael L. Kelley, Jr.
