Abstract: A method for the stabilisation of slopes and/or terrain which are unstable or subject to landslides, by inserting drainage devices. A vertical shaft with a concrete lining or a microtunnel (1) is constructed and an automatic drilling unit (8) is position therein. The drilling unit has at least one drilling head (6), a magazine of rods (11), and robotic devices able to pick up the rods (12) from the magazine and take them to the drilling head, the rods (12) being constituted by the drainage pipes (5); the head is controlled to perform drilling operations, with simultaneous laying of the drainage pipe. The drainage pipes are constituted by a tubular steel element, whose walls contain holes which house a microfiltration valve filled with water-soluble material to prevent the passages from becoming obstructed during drilling; when the pipe has been laid, the water-soluble material dissolves, thus cleaning the passages.

  • Patent number: 7273330
Abstract: An adapter is used with a leaching chamber or like article to change the invert elevation for a pipe which carries water to the article. The first end of the adapter fits a hole or other port on the article. The body of the adapter rotates about that first end, changing the elevation of the second end relative to the base. Stops on the adapter body limit rotation: in one direction so the first and second ends are vertically aligned; and in the opposing direction so that the lengthwise axes of the first and second ends lie in an inclined plane. Thus, three positive invert elevations can be set for an inlet pipe for a particular article: a first and second at each limit of rotation of the adapter, and a third and lowermost elevation, wherein the adapter is not used.

  • Patent number: 7207747
Abstract: Rain water is drained from a golf course sand bunker or like structure by a drainage system which comprises a conduit having a solid top and perforations in the sidewall. A conduit which is a chamber having an arch shape cross section is contained within a sand filled trench running along the bottom of a bunker. Water flows downwardly from the bunker into the trench, passing through opposing side trapezoid cross section spaces which are defined between the outwardly angled chamber sidewalls and the essentially vertical trench sidewalls. The water then flows horizontally into the conduit. Geotextile, in combination with downward sloping louvers which define slot perforations in the chamber sidewalls, hinders flow of sand into the interior of the chamber. The arch shape of the preferred conduit frees the trench bottom of vertical soil-compressive load and enables it to be fully exposed for water penetration.

The flow control unit blocking air flow through the unit inlet into the drain pipe when the blower is in the vacuum mode, and opening the unit inlet when a waterhead buildup at the unit inlet exceeds the vacuum level established by the blower to discharge water through the drain outlet.

  • Patent number: 7033110
Abstract: A non-biodegradable, unitary drainage device of flexible character. The invention features a monolithic, skeletal construct consisting of stacked, planar or poly-formational arrays of quasi-tubular, tube or rod supports, termed “stand-off” elements. Actual positioning of the supports in their arrays is varied, with parallel interleaving, cross-linking and intertwining of supports to acquire varying degrees of strength and flexibility. Depending on specific function to be performed, optional covering sheet(s) of differing materials, that provide either particulate filtering or fluid impermeability (sealing), may be used with the various matrices. A different modality is also shown, wherein rods are mixed with tubules or perforated tubes to acquire the analogous structures, for use with great overburdens of stone or soil.

  • Patent number: 7022235
Abstract: A biological treatment system, including a wastewater system drain field and at least one perforated distribution pipe located within the drain field and adapted to receive effluent. At least one perforated outer pipe surrounds the at least one distribution pipe to receive effluent from the at least one distribution pipe and to dispense the effluent to the drain field after it has been biologically treated in the at least one outer pipe. The system also includes a method of biological treatment comprising the steps of supplying effluent to at least one vessel positioned within a wastewater drain field; delivering gas to the at least one vessel to interact with the effluent such that the effluent experiences aerobic biological treatment; and passing biologically treated effluent from the at least one vessel to the wastewater drain field.

  • Patent number: 7018134
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for a foundation and soil irrigation system having multiple independent zones that can be controlled to deliver fluid to surrounding soil. The system can be installed above or below ground, but in a preferred embodiment the system is subterranean and is installed 18 to 24 inches off of the foundation and 12 to 18 inches below ground level. Each independent zone comprises a fluid distribution network that forms a center-fed or end-fed section to ensure proper hydraulic flow throughout the zone. The system further utilizes a wicking material network installed below ground to irrigate a soil region.

  • Patent number: 7014390
Abstract: A drainage member for use in promoting the drainage of water away from a substrate positioned adjacent the drainage member which includes an elongated, longitudinally extending base formed of a flexible material and having a plurality of outwardly extending projections. The projections are spaced from one another to form drainage channels between the projections. The elongated base has a plurality of expansion zones formed of the flexible material and extending generally transversely of the longitudinal extent thereof, the expansion zones comprising a deformation of the flexible material that absorbs longitudinal expansion of such material when it is exposed to heat without any significant increase in the longitudinal length of the drainage member.

  • Patent number: 7004677
Abstract: A valve containment assembly for an irrigation system may have a first side wall unit, a grate, a second side wall unit, and a lid. The first side wall unit may be disposed on the floor of a hole. The grate may be positioned in the first side wall unit to support a manifold. The second side wall unit rests on the first side wall unit to cover the manifold and the lid may be disposed on top of the side wall unit. The first side wall unit and the grate elevate the manifold above the floor of the hole to reduce interference of soil and water with the manifold. Additional side wall units may be used to provide additional height. Any of the side wall units may have frangible portions that break away to permit passage of conduits into the valve containment assembly.

  • Patent number: 6997642
Abstract: The invention is a system for managing a plurality of areas of interest of a golf course. The system comprises a plurality of electromechanical subsystems and a programmable master control module. Each subsystem provides to a specific area at least one of air under pressure and a partial vacuum. In each area of interest, a local control module is responsive to a directive and to a datum. The local control module is configured to operate the subsystem and is in communication with the programmable master control module. The programmable master control module receives from at least two of the plurality of local control modules information representing a status of the respective specific area to which the local control module is dedicated, and in response to the information and to a command, the programmable master control module issues a directive to the local control module to operate the electromechanical subsystem.
