  • Patent number: 10583497
Abstract: The present invention provides a rigid modular holding with axial and radial compensation for multiple and universal application of all machining processes, engineering, machine building, and construction fields where ever applicable for rotary and static systems. Design of modular holding includes male and female portions (401,301) of joining parts machined to the required shape and clearances to accommodate modular locking rigidly with face butting (407, 308). Radial and axial run out adjustments is controlled by the grub screws (307, 306) and run out compensation can be achieved within micron. An Area used for clamping and designed within the area of joining parts results reduction in material and processing cost. Since, the material is not protruding out from the surface of the joining parts, esthetically looks good and convenient for designing multiple applications as it is not possible at present.

  • Patent number: 6039096
Abstract: The invention concerns a milling tool (10) with reduced noise emission for machining panel-like pieces of wood. The reduction in noise emission is brought about by reducing the vibrations produced in the tool and workpiece and by proportioning the cut, machining being carried out in two stages. The greatest part of the chip volume (first stage) is removed under favorable noise-emission conditions using a special cutting geometry. The tool and workpiece vibrations are reduced by a clearly reduced rise in the shear force pulse using a special cutting tooth geometry. The chip volume removed under these conditions is only small (second stage), and so good quality machining can be attained.

Abstract: A milling cutter body of basically cylindrical shape has a plurality of grooves of a circular cross-section each of which intersects the envelope surface of the cutter body. These grooves receive insert-carrying cartridges of a corresponding circular cross-section. Each cartridge is adjustably rotatable about an axis of its respective groove and is also axially adjustable along such axis. The groove axes are not parallel to the axis of rotation of the cutter body but are inclined to it. A precise positioning of the parallel land angle of the cutting edges is obtained by turning the cartridge about the groove axis and/or axially adjusting the cart ridge along that axis.

  • Patent number: 5156501
Abstract: A face mill having one or more cartridges for adjustably supporting cutter inserts on the end face of the rotating tool body. Each cartridge has a convex arcuate surface seated against a concave arcuate seat surface formed on or in the milling tool body. A torsion bar is integrally extended from the cartridge parallel to the axis of the concave seat surface. Also, a manual adjustment screw is located perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the cartridge for applying an adjustment force to the cartridge in opposition to the action of the torsion leaf spring. The torsion bar applies a pre-load force to the cartridge. The manual adjustment screw exerts an opposing force that rotates the cartridge to a desired position for proper orientation of the associated cutter insert.

  • Patent number: 5123786
Abstract: A milling cutter has replaceable cutting inserts mounted on a toothed disc or drum body. Seatings for the inserts on the teeth locate them at spaced intervals on the periphery of each tooth. The inserts of at least one tooth of the body are peripherally staggered in their seatings relative to the inserts on at least one other tooth such that the staggered and spaced inserts on the teeth have paths of rotation that intersect to define a continuous profiled cutting line. The inserts have their cutting edges ground in situ on the teeth to define the profile of the cutting line. By this method a finish quality profiled surface can be produced using cutting inserts that are initially of standard form.

  • Patent number: 5102269
Abstract: There is disclosed an insert cutter which includes a tool body having a plurality of mounting recesses formed in an outer peripheral surface thereof and a plurality of cutter inserts each releasably secured to a respective one of the mounting recesses and a plurality of pressing members each received in a respective one of the holes. Each of the mounting recesses defines an abutment face facing axially forwardly of the tool body. The tool body has a plurality of holes formed in the outer peripheral surface thereof and extending radially inwardly thereof. Each of the holes has an inner wall and is displaced rearwardly of the tool body from a respective one of the mounting recesses. Each of the cutter inserts has a face held in contact with the abutment face of a respective one of the mounting recesses. Each pressing member is pressed against the inner wall of the hole, whereby that portion of the tool body between the hole and the mounting recess is elastically deformed.

  • Patent number: 4893967
Abstract: A cutting-tool cartridge arrangement for rotary cutting tools in which the cutting-tool cartridge assembly is mountable in an aperture in the cutting-tool body member. The cartridge assembly has an annular split bushing for insertion into the tool body aperture, has internal threads and a slot in the wall to provide a pair of opposed surfaces resiliently movable towards and away from each other. A set screw aperture is provided in the tool body member. The stud seat is threaded into the split bushing. The stud seat has a cutting insert end having matching walls that match the wall configuration of the mounting walls of a frustum cutting insert. A clamping nut threadingly engages the stud seat threaded walls at the cutting insert end thereof and has internal walls configured to match the cutting inserts flank surface. Tightening the clamping nut on the stud seat clamps the frustum cutting insert therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4586855
Abstract: A face milling tool is described including a holder securable to the end of a rotatable spindle. Cutting inserts are detachably secured to the end face of the holder at a radial distance from the axis of the spindle. The cutting edges of the inserts extend outwardly of the holder end face such that the cutting edges are free to engage and machine the surface of a workpiece. The inserts are of a wafer-like form and means are provided for detachably securing the inserts to the holder through a central axial aperture in the inserts. The securing means lies within the outer end face of each insert and the cutting edge of each is substantially straight, being formed by a portion of an edge at the intersection of the insert side wall and the end face. Each insert lies at such an angle to the plane of the workpiece that the insert side wall forms a rake face and the outer end face of the insert forms a clearance face and the straight cutting edge lies at a small radial shear angle.

  • Patent number: 4470731
Abstract: The subject invention relates to an improved assembly for mounting a finishing insert in a milling cutter. More particularly, the subject invention facilitates the adjustment of the tilt of a finishing insert relative to a milling cutter to improve the finish of a workpiece. In accordance with the subject invention, a milling cutter is provided with a finishing insert pocket having a planar bottom wall disposed at an inclined angle relative to the planar surface of the cutter. A locating seat, having a finishing insert fixedly mounted therein, is adjustably mounted within the insert pocket. By adjusting the position of the locating seat relative to the insert pocket, the angle of the cutting edge of the finishing insert, relative to the milling cutter is varied. In a preferred embodiment of the subject invention, both the insert pocket and the locating seat include complimentary arcuate walls to provide additional support during the cutting operation.
