  • Patent number: 6530727
Abstract: The machining head for machining valve seats comprises a driving system, a housing, a carriage feed assembly, a cutting tip mounted on the carriage, and a counterweight assembly. The driving system rotates a machining head on a spindle axis, and further provides independent vertical translation of each of a driving arbor and a spindle, both of which are independent of the rotation of the spindle. The carriage has both forward and backward feed capability for moving the cutting tip radially inward or outward as it cuts. Vertical movement of the arbor is converted into force for moving the carriage by a cantilever pivoting around a fixed point. The counterweight assembly, linked to the arbor by a second cantilever, counterbalances the shift in weight caused by the movement of the carriage in order to maintain dynamic balancing as the machining head rotates.

  • Patent number: 5149231
Abstract: A counterbore for enlarging an existing hole in the presence of a wire having an end extending through the hole. The counterbore includes a twist drill bit of a size of the enlarged hole to be drilled, a shank at the rear end of the bit for engagement with a drill chuck, and a pilot shank extending from the cutting end of said bit. A swivel is mounted at the leading end of the pilot for engagement with the wire during counterbore drilling. The swivel and pilot guides the wire into the hole without twisting during drilling of the counterbore and extracts the wire from the counterbore as the twist drill bit and pilot shank is withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 5000629
Abstract: A self-centering plastic pipe router tool is described for routing of a sawed-off end of pipe from the interior surface of a salvageable pipe. The router tool is a disk with an axial shank on one side of the disk. A pair of cutting flanges extend radially outwardly and upwardly in the direction of the axial shank from the disk perimeter to form first and second cutting edges. A concentric cylindrical skirt extends downwardly from the disk for axial centering of the router tool within the waste pipe ID. The first cutting edges are sized for routing of the waste pipe and the second cutting edges are sized to plane and re-finish the interior surface of the salvageable pipe for re-use.

  • Patent number: 4666350
Abstract: An improved boring bar for machining bearings in an engine block or the like includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced wear pads which extend radially beyond the surface of the bar and form the sole points of support between the bar and the inner race of a bearing in which the bar is slideably received. Preferably, at least two of the wear pads are radially displaceable within slots on oposite circumferential sides of longitudinally aligned cutting tools which are secured to the bar. The pads are removably mounted in the slots within the bar by screws to allow rapid replacement of the pads due to wear. A thin layer of resilient material, such as neoprene rubber, is captured between the radially displaceable pads and the bottom of the slot, and urge the pads away from the bar, thereby biasing the bar in a direction away from the cutting tools and toward one side of the inner race of the bearing. The constant lateral biasing of the bar eliminates tool chatter and improves machining accuracy.
