The apparatus clamps onto the stock rail and comprises a positionable milling assembly inclined at the angle necessary for milling the desired pocket into the stock rail. The apparatus moves the apparatus along the stock rail at a controlled speed whereby the milling head is fed along the stock rail during the milling operation.

    Abstract: Apparatus, especially portable apparatus, for forming shaped edge profiles on the edges of sheet material wherein the sheet material is characterized by thickness non-uniformities; yet, wherein the root face thickness--i.e., that portion of the shaped sheet edge thickness from which no material is removed--of the shaped edge formed is maintained constant irrespective of thickness non-uniformities inherently present in such sheets. More specifically, apparatus which particularly, but not exclusively, advantageous in preparing the edges of sheet material (such, for example, as sheet aluminum) for subsequent welding operations by routing or the like, where it is critical that the root face thickness of the shaped edge remain of constant thickness irrespective of thickness variations inherently present in the sheet material itself.

In a preferred embodiment, the cantilevered holder comprises a ring that allows 270.degree. visibility about the routing tool.     Abstract: Apparatus for guiding a small router head along either straight paths or arcs of circles, for cutting sheet metal printing plates to desired outlines. The operator may guide the router over the same path several times, successively increasing the depth of cut until it is cut through. In the preferred form for cutting along straight lines, a guide rod is supported between two offset heads that attach to the work by suction cups. A short square-section mounting bar rides in a ball bushing along the guide rod. A router head assembly clamps detachably to the bar. For cutting arcs of circles a pair of radius rods is carried adjustably in a rotatable center head that attaches to the workpiece with a suction cup. A second mounting bar connects the free ends of the radius rods; the same router assembly may be detached and clamped to this bar.

    Abstract: A cutting guide for cutting plastic laminate material is used in conjunction with a conventional router. The cutting guide includes an elongate, flat base plate having an opening in one end portion thereof for receiving the bit of the router which has been mounted thereabove. An elongate guide fence is disposed transversely below the base plate and is mounted on a sliding carriage for movement toward and away the router cutting tool. An upwardly biased support roller is axled on the horizontal leg of an L-shaped axle to make rolling contact with a strip being cut from a larger sheet of material along a line parallel to the length of the fence. An auxiliary roller is axled to the trailing end portion of the fence to support the edge portion of the strip of material opposite the cutting tool.

    Abstract: A hand operated power tool is used for trimming and edge finishing a workpiece such as a counter top or desk top. The tool comprises a housing having two guide surfaces arranged substantially perpendicular to each other and an electric motor-driven cutter mounted in a recess in one of the guide surfaces, arranged parallel to one guide surface and perpendicular to the other guide surface. The two guide surfaces support the tool on a flat surface of the workpiece and maintain the cutter in position with respect to the material to be cut. In addition, a cutter guide bearing at the end of the cutter further guides and limits the movement of the cutter. The tool may be operated in two different positions so that edges adjacent to blind corners and curved surfaces may be trimmed. Different shaped cutter bits can be used for trimming square, beveled, or radiused edges with no adjustments to the tool.

    Abstract: An attachment is provided for a tool with a rotary cutting element. The attachment enables an operator of the tool to determine when sufficient stock is removed from the wall of a slot to obtain the proper slot width and includes a gauging element extending longitudinally and generally parallel to the rotary cutting element, said gauging element being of width slightly less than the desired slot width. A cutting edge portion of the rotary cutting element protrudes from the plane of one of the elongated surfaces of the gauging element so that stock may be removed from a slot wall while the gauging element trails behind the cutting edge in the slot. In preferred form, a guide is located 180 degrees from the gauging element so as to precede the rotary cutting element into the slot and control the depth of cut thereof along the slot wall.
