Patent number: 4273483Abstract: A portable deglazing tool for removing glazing compound from window frames while simultaneously refinishing all surfaces preparatory to facilitate reglazing and glass replacement if required. The deglazing is accomplished by a fluted cutting bit with a flat lower end driven from an electric motor at a speed of at least 20,000 r.p.m. and the bit operates through aligned apertures in a base and sub-base with indexing on the tool to set the bit to operate at the location and the depth of the ledge of the window frame.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1979Date of Patent: June 16, 1981Inventor: Lyle J. Patent number: 4268196Abstract: Apparatus is provided for carrying, positioning and operating relatively unwieldy machine tools, such as heavy multiple-head drilling assemblies, upon massive flanged work-pieces, such as structural members for bridges, in order to more efficiently perform required operations upon the work-pieces, such as the pre-drilling of girders and their associated splice plates in a fabrication yard prior to field erection of the structure into which they will be assembled.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1979Date of Patent: May 19, 1981Assignee: Kansas City Structural Steel Co.Inventors: James E. Patent number: 4248556Abstract: A method and apparatus for smoothing local unevenness from the surface of bar material, such as anode bars, consisting of clamping the bar rigidly against a supporting frame and moving a smoothing device along the bar, said smoothing device maintained in continued contact with the bar by means of rollers pushing against opposed parallel faces of the bar. The rollers allow the smoothing device to move according to the general contour of the bar, so that only local unevenness is removed, and excessive smoothing due to curvature in the overall bar length is eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1979Date of Patent: February 3, 1981Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventors: Willy Jakobs, Heinz Caspelherr

Patent number: 4187046Abstract: A hand operated power tool is used for trimming and edge finishing a workpiece such as a counter top or desk top. The tool comprises a housing having two guide surfaces arranged substantially perpendicular to each other and an electric motor-driven cutter mounted in a recess in one of the guide surfaces, arranged parallel to one guide surface and perpendicular to the other guide surface. The two guide surfaces support the tool on a flat surface of the workpiece and maintain the cutter in position with respect to the material to be cut. In addition, a cutter guide bearing at the end of the cutter further guides and limits the movement of the cutter. The tool may be operated in two different positions so that edges adjacent to blind corners and curved surfaces may be trimmed. Different shaped cutter bits can be used for trimming square, beveled, or radiused edges with no adjustments to the tool.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1977Date of Patent: February 5, 1980Inventor: Henry Atherton

Patent number: 4156990Abstract: An attachment is provided for a tool with a rotary cutting element. The attachment enables an operator of the tool to determine when sufficient stock is removed from the wall of a slot to obtain the proper slot width and includes a gauging element extending longitudinally and generally parallel to the rotary cutting element, said gauging element being of width slightly less than the desired slot width. A cutting edge portion of the rotary cutting element protrudes from the plane of one of the elongated surfaces of the gauging element so that stock may be removed from a slot wall while the gauging element trails behind the cutting edge in the slot. In preferred form, a guide is located 180 degrees from the gauging element so as to precede the rotary cutting element into the slot and control the depth of cut thereof along the slot wall.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1978Date of Patent: June 5, 1979Assignee: United States Steel CorporationInventor: Edward Rutkowski
