Patent number: 8740523Abstract: By controlling an amount of preload applied to a rolling bearing that supports a spindle in accordance with the change of state of the spindle in actual machining, the rotation of the spindle is controlled in an optimal state, and the service life of the bearing is extended while the required stiffness of the spindle is ensured. When a corrected preload amount falls outside a range of a preload as a controllable region, the corrected preload amount is corrected so as to fall within the range of the preload. That is, an actually controlled preload is regulated to fall within the preset range of preload. Therefore, it is possible to ensure the stiffness of the rolling bearing or prevent heating and excessive increase in contact pressure of the rolling bearing.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2010Date of Patent: June 3, 2014Assignee: JTEKT CorporationInventors: Kunimichi Nakashima, Yuji Okawa, Takamasa Shibata, Takahito Umeki

Patent number: 4326824Abstract: The present disclosure teaches a process and related apparatus for longitudinal adjustment of tools for individual working spindles of a multiple-spindle automatically controlled machine tool. The tools introduced into the working spindles in the direction of their lengths to be adjusted are run in rapid advance in all cases against a measuring device which, on reaching a predetermined distance from the working part reference point, produces a first signal in which the rapid advances of the working spindles are switched off individually. The first signal from the measuring device finally reached by the tool involved switches on crawling speeds for all working spindles. The spindles are switched off individually on reaching the working-part reference points in all cases by a second signal from the measuring devices.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1980Date of Patent: April 27, 1982Assignees: Firma Droop, Herr Dipl.-Ing. Patent number: 4178834Abstract: An improved machine tool includes an extendible ram or tool support arm. As the ram is extended, the outer end portion of the ram deflects downwardly under the influence of gravity. To compensate for the deflection of the ram, the angular orientation of the ram relative to upwardly extending tracks is changed to raise the outer end portion of the ram. This is accomplished by means of gibs or deflection compensation cams which are moved to rotate a carriage or saddle on which the ram is mounted. The extent of deflection of the ram varies as a function of the distance which it extends outwardly from the carriage. Therefore it is necessary to store data indicative of the deflection of the ram at various degrees of extension and to adjust the orientation of the ram in accordance with this data as the ram is extended. The data indicating the extent to which the ram deflects is stored by means of a cam mounted on the carriage. The cam is read by a transducer which moves with the ram.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1977Date of Patent: December 18, 1979Assignee: The Warner & Swasey CompanyInventor: Paul E. Holmstrom
