Each shaft of the bifurcated arbor carries a straddle milling cutter thereon in spaced apart relationship with the cutter on the other arbor member.

  • Patent number: 4512380
Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus for the transverse and/or longitudinal machining of wooden workpieces, comprising a workpiece carriage for mounting a workpiece or a plurality of workpieces thereon and adapted to be displaced in the direction of the X-axis of a spatial X-Y-Z coordinate system along at least one transverse machining tool itself adapted to be displaced in the Y- and/or Z-axis for the machining operation. The object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of the above indicated type, which is of simple construction and by means of which the transverse machining of a workpiece can be carried out in a single mounting position of the workpiece and at a single machine location. In order to attain this object, the invention provides that the workpiece carriage comprises a mounting table adapted to be tilted about an axis parallel to the X-axis.

  • Patent number: 4326824
Abstract: The present disclosure teaches a process and related apparatus for longitudinal adjustment of tools for individual working spindles of a multiple-spindle automatically controlled machine tool. The tools introduced into the working spindles in the direction of their lengths to be adjusted are run in rapid advance in all cases against a measuring device which, on reaching a predetermined distance from the working part reference point, produces a first signal in which the rapid advances of the working spindles are switched off individually. The first signal from the measuring device finally reached by the tool involved switches on crawling speeds for all working spindles. The spindles are switched off individually on reaching the working-part reference points in all cases by a second signal from the measuring devices.

  • Patent number: 4309134
Abstract: The present crankshaft milling machine comprises at least one milling slide in which the drive spindle is rotatably supported. A milling tool with axially spaced disk cutters is also rotatably supported in the milling slide and operatively connectable, for example, by a clutch, to the drive spindle. One support bearing of the milling tool is constructed as an axial thrust bearing. The clutch between the milling tool and the drive spindle is constructed to transmit torque moments and it is unable to transmit axially effective forces or loads.

  • Patent number: 4274183
Abstract: An improvement is disclosed in apparatus for copy-machining a workpiece from a master model, the apparatus being moved along the workpiece by a feed mechanism in response to the scanning of the master model. The improvement comprises a first tool and a second tool mounted on the feed mechanism, a pivot arm for supporting the second tool for movement relative to the first tool in the direction of movement along said workpiece, and means for locking said pivot arm and second tool at a desired position, said first and second tools engaging the workpiece in staggered relationship to one another, with reference to the direction of movement along said workpiece, wherein the relative positions of said first and second tools are adjustable by movement of the second tool in response to movement of the pivot arm and locking the pivot arm and second tool at the desired position. Apparatus is also disclosed wherein the pivot arm is situated substantially orthogonal to the direction of movement along said workpiece.
