  • Patent number: 8622669
Abstract: A broaching tool for machining a workpiece formed of a parallelogram shaped insert which fits within a slot formed in a body member. The insert has two juxtaposed corners either of which may be oriented at the distal end of the body member to function as a cutting edge. Repositioning of the insert to place either cutting edge in place is provided by flipping it over in its engagement within the slot. The inserts may be provided in a kit of differently configured inserts to yield different cutting widths.

  • Patent number: 7704023
Abstract: A cutting tool assembly is provided for removing flash portions and gates from a molded article. The cutting tool assembly includes a holder device including an upper plate, a cylindrical collar, and a bearing disposed between the upper plate and the cylindrical collar to allow movement of the cylindrical collar relative to the upper plate. The cutting tool assembly further includes a cutting member fixedly secured to the cylindrical collar wherein movement of the cylindrical collar relative to the upper plate provides the cutting member with degrees of rotational freedom to float relative to the molded article during trimming of the flash portions and gates.

  • Patent number: 7416372
Abstract: A toolholder (50) with a controllable critical angle, such as a lead, trailing, rake or clearance angles, includes a tool spindle (42a) for retaining the toolholder in a tool rest (42) of a machine tool. The machine tool (10) includes at least one linear axis, for example, three mutually perpendicular axes, a rotary axis and a rotation axis. The rotary axis and/or rotation axis is controllable to move to a specified position in synchronization with a movement of one of the linear axes. An adaptor (54) supports a cutting tool (56) that is retained in the adaptor by a clamp (58). The cutting tool (56) defines a critical angle, such as a lead angle, a trailing angle, a rake angle and a flank clearance angle, wherein the critical angle is corrected as a vector of movement of at least one of the linear axis is changed. In addition, the cutting tool (56) can be positioned on opposite side of a centerline of rotation of the workpiece to effectively double the life of the cutting tool.

  • Patent number: 6988860
Abstract: A cutting tool having a blade section on one end is mounted on a spindle of a cutting machine, and the blade section is contacted with a workpiece to perform planing of the workpiece into a desired shape. Because the tip of the blade section is disposed on the spindle axis, the position of the cutting edge is controlled by performing drive control of the X-axis and Y-axis of the spindle. Thus, the control of the cutting machine is simplified, and path errors resulting from synchronous control can be eliminated.

  • Patent number: 6725515
Abstract: Using machines, equipment and devices for mechanical scarfing off of oxygen cutting burr from workpieces of steel, the deburring will be safer with a better deburring ratio, lower cost and with better, advantageous maintenance and wear part situations. The scarfing process performs even if limited, step by step continuously, following in every height level of the cutting oxygen burr with a tool continuously moving from down to up with a suitable adjustment.

  • Patent number: 6507984
Abstract: A detailing tool for processing electronic component substrate includes a supporting frame, a substrate carrier movable on the supporting frame to receive and secure the substrate during processing by the tool, and a pair of cutter assembly attached to said supporting frame for removing tails on said substrate. The cutter assemblies self-align “to” the substrate during initial substrate loading in a processing area of the tool. Each cutter assembly includes a pair of spaced, translatable and opposed cutters that simultaneously move towards each another while removing the tails from the corners of the substrate that remains stationary. The pair of cutter assemblies are symmetrically attached to the supporting frame with respect to an axis for indexing the substrate. Thus, the invention provides a tool for cutting tails from opposite corners on the substrate edge automatically and simultaneously during processing.

  • Patent number: 5876162
Abstract: An apparatus for removing the dross ridges which are formed on the lower surface of a metal workpiece during torch cutting of the workpiece. The apparatus includes a support beam having generally flat upper and lower surfaces, and a cutting edge extending longitudinally along each of its four corners. The beam is positioned to extend across and below the workpiece path of travel, and the beam is rotatable between a neutral position wherein one of the upper and lower surfaces is just below the pass line of the workpiece, and opposite tilted positions in which one of the cutting edges engages and removes a dross ridge on the lower surface of the workpiece. Each of the cutting edges comprises a plurality of separately pivotable cutting blades, so that the cutting edge formed by the blades is able to closely conform to a non-linear surface contour of the workpiece.
