Using Reciprocating Or Oscillating Cutter Patents (Class 409/58)
  • Patent number: 8985917
Abstract: A cutting machine for gear shaping or the like is provided. The cutting machine includes a gear shaping head. The gear shaping head has a ram that is guided by and reciprocates along a linear guide mounted between a saddle of the gear shaping head and the ram. At least one linear motor reciprocates the ram along a stroke axis relative to the saddle. The ram also carries a rotary drive and a spindle that reciprocate in unison with the ram. The rotary drive directly drives the spindle to journal the spindle through incremental angular positions during gear shaping.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a hollow wheel equipped with an internal gear toothing, wherein a work-piece includes a tubular section with a longitudinal axis, by which the term radial utilised in the following is defined. By N?2 stamping tools, of which each one during the implementation of the method is brought into a working position, the tool for producing the gear toothing is processed on the inside of the tubular section, wherein the work-piece carries out a rotating movement with a rotation speed varying in time around the mentioned longitudinal axis and at least one stamping tool in the working position carries out radially oscillating movements, which are synchronised with the mentioned rotating movement. The at least one stamping tool in the working position processes the work-piece repeatedly.

  • Patent number: 7458157
Abstract: A method and a tool for fabricating a toothing at a three-dimensional body produced by forming and fine blanking, especially an attachment for car seat components or the like produced out of a flat strip, wherein the flat strip by forming and fine blanking in a tool is formed into a pot-shaped body with inner forms and a substantially evenly curved edge. Afterwards, a toothing is fabricated into the edge radially extending to the inner side of the body. The toothing in the edge of the pot-shaped body is exclusively produced by cutting and/or shaving with a fine blanking die and/or a shaving device, and a burr and/or shaving chips developing during cutting and/or shaving are pressed into a recess in the base of the pot-shaped body allocated to the toothing.

  • Patent number: 4720220
Abstract: For machining the tooth flanks of a hardened workpiece having pre-formed teeth two cutting blades or plates are secured to a cutting blade or plate holder. The cutting blades or plates are provided with a base member or backing formed of a hard metal and a cover layer sintered thereon which is formed of cubic boron nitride. Each cutting blade forms a cutting surface and a clearance surface. Each individual cutting blade or plate is arranged at the cutting blade or plate holder in relation to the direction of the intended cutting movement such that the surface of the cover layer forms the clearance surface and an end face or surface of the cover layer is located in the cutting surface. Consequently, there is achieved the result that the cutting surface can be reground in the same manner as tools which, for example, are made of hardened steel and which are not provided with a cover layer.

  • Patent number: 4717293
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for the chamfering of the axially facing ends of toothed cylindrical or conical workpieces in which a cutting tool arranged on a rocking lever is moved back and forth in response to the peripheral speed of the workpiece which constantly rotates about its axis. The cutting edge of the tool acts chip-removingly during each stroke that is directed onto or toward the axially facing surface of each tooth of the workpiece. The cutting edge moves along a circular segment path, the axis of which extends at least approximately parallel to a radial of the workpiece, which radial starts out from the workpiece axis and extends through the tooth which is to be worked or machined.

  • Patent number: 4695209
Abstract: The helical guide apparatus includes a main spindle, a male pattern, a first female pattern and a second female pattern which are operatively associated with one another. As the main spindle adapted to reciprocably move in the axial direction and rotate in the circumferential direction is reciprocably driven in the axial direction by first reciprocable driving means, it carries out reciprocable rotational movement in accordance with a lead which is determined by a combination of the first helical projection on the male pattern and the first helical recess on the first female pattern.

  • Patent number: 4514119
Abstract: A structure and method of use of a gear shaper for making a helical gear from a gear blank, and a method of use thereof. The gear shaper includes a helical guide having a lead L, a cutter spindle movable along the helical guide, and a pinion cutter on the spindle. The pinion cutter has an angle of twist .phi. and a normal module m.sub.n such that the quantity Z=(L.sin .phi.)/(m.sub.n..pi.) is a non-integer, a number of teeth given by the integer closest to and less than Z, a pitch circle diameter equal to (L.tan .phi.)/.pi., and a circular pitch which is larger than m.sub.n..pi. at one and only one location on its circular periphery and a circular m.sub.n..pi. at all other locations on its circular periphery. For a gear shaper having a helical guide of given lead L, a pinion cutter of appropriate angle of twist .phi. and normal module m.sub.n can be utilized to manufacture a helical gear of angle of twist .phi. and module m.sub.

  • Patent number: 4487535
Abstract: The gear shaping machine is of simplified construction and is dedicated essentially to forming only a single type of gear or a narrow range of gears. To enable the machine to be of simplified construction, the drive train between the cutter and work spindles consists of only four gears in a machine for cutting internal gears and consists of only four gears and a direction-changing idler in a machine for cutting external gears. Relative infeeding of the cutter and the work blank is effected by pivoting one of the spindles relative to the other spindle with one of the drive gears walking around another one of the drive gears during such pivoting. The differential rotation of the spindles produced by the pivoting action is negated in order to keep the spindles in proper rotational relationship.

  • Patent number: 4303359
Abstract: A deburring apparatus is provided for automatically deburring gears having a plurality of external or internal extending teeth formed therealong at predetermined intervals from each other. The apparatus comprises a frame having a spindle on which the gear to be deburred is mounted. A main shaft is rotatably supported within the frame which, upon rotation, incrementally indexes the gear mounted on the spindle for a distance corresponding to the distance between adjacent gear teeth and, after doing so, interrupts the rotation of the spindle for a predetermined period of time. Both an eccentric member and a cam are secured to the shaft. In addition a cutting tool arm is rotatably secured at one end to the eccentric member and, at its other end, a cutting tool is mounted. A bell crank is also pivotally secured to the frame and has a cam follower mounted to one end which engages the cam.
