Abstract: A wheel chock is constructed from metallic material has an elongate primary body construction. The primary body construction has a ?-shaped transverse cross-section formed by an upper C-shaped channel construction and a lower planar basal construction. The basal construction has U-shape that extends orthogonally relative to the C-shape of the channel construction. The ?-shaped transverse cross-section bears and distributes stress imposed on the primary body construction. The C-shaped channel construction preferably includes a series of apertures for reducing weight and controlling elastic response of the primary body construction. Among these apertures are edge-based apertures, arm-based stress relief slots, and aligned apertures having sequentially decreasing diameters.

Abstract: Provided is an adjustable wheel strap system adapted for securing vehicles to rail cars or other auto carriers. The device comprises multi-ply rubber strap, a ratchet assembly, and tie down securement devices including one or more swivel hooks. The strap is made of multi-ply, high strength rubber with corded material in between the strap layers. The rubber material is non-abrasive and grips around over the upper half of the tire to secure it to the transporter via swivel hooks. The present invention may be retrofitted to a variety of transporters. The wheel strap system of the present invention helps prevent the shifting of the vehicle during transport, reducing the number of accidents caused by vehicle shifting on or within, or falling from, the transporters.

Abstract: A restraint device for securing approximately cylindrical objects to an apertured surface is presented. The restraint device generally includes a base, a support, an abutment and an activation system. The restraint device may further include a lateral restraint and a cover. The base, along with the activation system, secures the restraint device to an apertured surface. The abutment, which is placed adjacent the outer edge of the object, acts as a barrier to the object, thus reducing or preventing movement of the object in the direction of the restraint device. The abutment and the support may be moved relative to the base by the activation system. To engage and disengage the restraint device from an apertured surface and the generally cylindrical object, the activation system may include a rotational device such as a lever.

In one embodiment, each support includes a stretcher leg receiving member that is adapted to releasably receive an ambulance stretcher leg. A base, configured to be mounted to the ambulance floor, mounts the stretcher leg receiving member for movement between a position substantially coplanar with the top floor surface, and a position below the top floor surface. A vibration reduction device is mounted between the base and the stretcher leg receiving member such that the stretcher leg can be releasably supported on the stretcher leg receiving member and the vibration reduction device will reduce transfer of vibration from the ambulance floor to the stretcher.

Abstract: A caster shipping assembly includes a wheel having a radius and a centrally mounted axle. A securing bracket is connected to the wheel. The securing bracket is movable between a shipping position in which the bracket is fastened to a packaging component and the wheel is suspended above the packaging component, and an in-use position in which the wheel is free for rolling contact with a support surface. The bracket can include a pair of side supports secured to opposing sides of the axle, with each of the side brackets having a length greater than the radius of the caster wheel. A plate can be connected to the side brackets. The plate can include a fastening arrangement adapted and constructed to be fastened to a packaging component to suspend the wheel above the packaging component during shipping. A method of securing a caster to a packaging component during shipping is also set forth. The caster includes a wheel having a radius and a centrally mounted axle.

Abstract: A manually operated winch system secures cargo to a transport vehicle. The winch system has a shaft rotationally mounted relative a frame. A ratchet drive mechanism controls rotation of the shaft. A handle received in the drive mechanism can be used both to control rotation of the shaft and to control operation of a pawl. The drive mechanism is configured such that tilting the handle moves a member axially. Sufficient axial movement of the member causes the pawl to disengage mating ratchet teeth and thereby allows the shaft to rotate freely. In some embodiments, an adjustment mechanism limits the extent to which the member can move axially.

Abstract: In a method and system for tying a tire of a vehicle on a load carrying platform, at least first and second integral winch and chock assemblies are aligned at both ends of at least one of the tires of the vehicle so that a chock surface of the respective assemblies abuts the tire at both ends thereof. Each of the assemblies is providing with a winding mandrel. The winch and chock assemblies are locked to the platform to prevent lateral, longitudinal and vertical movement of the assemblies. A tire harness connects to the two winch and chock assemblies, the tire harness wrapping around a top portion of the tire. At least one or both of the winding mandrels of the winch and chock assemblies are then rotated to tighten the harness on the tire.

  • Patent number: 6113326
Abstract: A system and device for loading and transporting a vehicle on a vehicle transporting surface simplifies the loading of vehicles by aligning the vehicle as it is loaded and holds the vehicle securely in alignment once loaded. The vehicle loading device is formed with an angulated surface that is attached to the side of the vehicle transporting surface. A flat plate attaches to the angulated surface and a brace extends downward from the far edge of the flat plate and rests against the side of the vehicle transporting surface. The vehicle is loaded onto the vehicle transporting surface with the angulated surface pressing against the interior of tracks or wheels of the vehicle. The angulated surface forces an initially misaligned vehicle to slide into proper alignment on the vehicle transporting surface. Opposing forces are thus exerted on the inside of the tracks and wheels which cause and maintain proper alignment.
