Gripping Member Is Moved Radially Into Engagement With The Threads Patents (Class 411/254)
  • Patent number: 5730569
Abstract: An hydraulically assisted fastener has a pressure means (13) nested in a recess (15) or groove in a nut (11) or a thrust washer with a filler neck (20, 31, 44) whereat a nipple (14) can be used as a means of pumping grease or oil to the pressure means. The pressure means can be a bladder (13) or two parts with mated channels (42, 43). Alternately the pressure means (13) can be a single part with open channel (45) nested in a channel (46) in a nut body or thrust washer.

  • Patent number: 5460467
Abstract: A locking nut for use with a shaft having a serrated thread employs a segmented, radially expandable locking element having serrations on its internal diameter. The locking element is disposed in a counterbore of the nut and is axially movable between a first locked position and a second unlocked position. The locking element is resiliently biased toward the axis of rotation of the nut and is also resiliently radially biased axially to the locked position. The nut is unlocked by overcoming the axial resilient bias and driving the locking element segments up a radially diverging ramp provided within the nut against the resilient radial bias.

  • Patent number: 4780036
Abstract: This assembly comprises a collar (3) having splines cooperating with splines on the bolt (1) and lateral tabs (4) in contact with flat sides of the nut (2). This assembly further comprises at least one bent elastically yieldable locking element (5, 5') having a first branch (6, 6') trapped between a tab (4) of the collar (3) and a flat side of the nut, a second branch (8, 8') having an aperture (9, 9') through which extends the bolt and which has an edge engaged between screw threads of the bolt. By exerting a lateral pressure on the locking elements (5, 5'), the screw threads of the bolt are elastically disengaged.

  • Patent number: 4588163
Abstract: A stem travel limiting apparatus provides a relatively tamper proof limit setting device for an adjustable valve stem. In a preferred embodiment, an internally threaded annular collar is positioned about an externally matingly threaded stem, the collar having a spaced gap in its annular body. A locking ring is positioned over the collar, and is of a size relative to the collar to develop sufficient force over the collar to partially close the gap and to force the threads of the stem and collar into distortion. The apparatus is positioned along the stem during assembly of a control valve to thereby provide a limit to a manually adjustable setting of the control valve.
